The Miracle of the Manna (1594-1597) by Fabrizio Boschi

En la Primera lectura de hoy, del Libro del Éxodo, escuchamos sobre el milagro del maná en el desierto. En esta pintura titulada, El milagro del maná (1594-1597) de Fabrizio Boschi, vemos la Primera lectura de hoy bellamente ilustrada. Recordemos cómo los israelitas vagan por el desierto, siguiendo su Éxodo de la esclavitud en Egipto. Mientras los israelitas vagan por el desierto, se quejan y se quejan contra Dios porque no tienen nada que comer. Dios escucha las quejas de la gente, y el Señor Dios le dice a Moisés que hará llover pan del cielo para que los israelitas coman. leemos, "ahora la casa de Israel lo llamó maná, era como semilla de cilantro, blanca, y sabían cómo obleas hechas con miel "(Éxodo 16:31). ¿Por qué el maná sabía a miel? Era un anticipo de la Tierra Prometida, una tierra" que fluye con leche y miel "(Éxodo 3.8). Cuando los israelitas cruzado a la Tierra Prometida, el maná se detuvo, y ya no había ningún maná para los israelitas (Josué 5: 10-12).

Además, el maná es un pan milagroso del cielo, dado directamente por Dios a su pueblo para que coman. Los rabinos creían que este pan existía en el cielo antes de que el mundo comenzara, y que volvería a la tierra de nuevo algún día en el nuevo Éxodo con el Mesías. "Como el primer redentor [Moisés] hizo descender el maná, como se afirma" porque haré llover pan del cielo para ti "(Éx 16: 4), así también el último redentor [Mesías] hará que el maná descienda ( Eccl. Rabbath 1: 9)

En el Evangelio de Juan de hoy, escuchamos a Jesús decirles: "En verdad, les aseguro que no fue Moisés quien dio el pan del cielo, sino que mi Padre les dio el verdadero pan del cielo. es lo que desciende del cielo y da vida al mundo. "Yo soy el pan de la vida; el que viene a mí nunca tendrá hambre, y el que cree en mí nunca tendrá sed. "El pan del cielo regresó a la tierra con la venida de Jesús el Cristo, con su don de la Eucaristía. Todo el contexto del discurso de Jesús sobre el pan de la vida se centra en las esperanzas judías de la venida de un nuevo Moisés y el regreso del maná del cielo.

Dzisiejsze pierwsze czytanie z Księgi Wyjścia dotyczy cudu związanego z manną na pustyni. Doskonałą ilustracją tego fragmentu Pisma jest załączony obraz: „Cud manny”, pędzla Fabrizio Boschiego. Przypomnijcie sobie podróż Izraelitów przez pustynię, po ich wyjściu z egipskiej niewoli. Wycieńczeni Izraelici złorzeczą Bogu, gdyż nie mają nic do jedzenia. Czytamy: „I przemówił Pan do Mojżesza tymi słowami: «Słyszałem szemranie Izraelitów. Powiedz im tak: O zmierzchu będziecie jeść mięso, a rano nasycicie się chlebem. Poznacie wtedy, że Ja, Pan, jestem waszym Bogiem». Rzeczywiście wieczorem przyleciały przepiórki i pokryły obóz, a nazajutrz rano warstwa rosy leżała dokoła obozu. Gdy się warstwa rosy uniosła ku górze,

wówczas na pustyni leżało coś drobnego, ziarnistego, niby szron na ziemi. Na widok tego Izraelici pytali się wzajemnie: «Co to jest?» - gdyż nie wiedzieli, co to było. Wtedy powiedział do nich Mojżesz: «To jest chleb, który daje wam Pan na pokarm”. (Księga Wyjścia 16:11-15). Ujrzawszy mannę, Izraelici zapytali: „Co to jest?” Biblia podaje parę szczegółów: „Dom Izraela nadał temu [pokarmowi] nazwę manna. Była ona biała jak ziarno kolendra i miała smak placka z miodem” (Wj 16:31). Dlaczego manna smakowała jak miód? Otóż miała ona być przedsmakiem i zapowiedzią Ziemi Obiecanej, „ziemi żyznej i przestronnej, ziemi, która opływa w mleko i miód „ (Wj 3:8). Po wejściu do Ziemi Obiecanej: „Manna ustała następnego dnia, gdy zaczęli jeść plon tej ziemi. Nie mieli już więcej Izraelici manny, lecz żywili się tego roku z plonów ziemi Kanaan” (Księga Jozuego 5:12). Manna to cudowny chleb, dany Izraelitom na pokarm przez Pana. Wielu współczesnych uczonych twierdziło, iż manna to w rzeczywistości jakiś owad, pustynna roślina lub inna naturalna substancja. Jednakże w Biblii, cudowność manny jest niepodważalna. Nazywana jest „chlebem niebiańskim”, co sugeruje jej nadnaturalne pochodzenie. W Psalmie 78: 23-25 zapisano: „Potem z góry wydał rozkaz chmurom i bramy nieba otworzył, i spuścił jak deszcz mannę do jedzenia: dał im zboże z nieba. Człowiek chleb mocarzy spożywał - żywności zesłał im do syta”. Niezależnie od tego, ile manny Izraelici uzbierali, zawsze mieli jej tyle samo: dokładnie jeden omer (około jednego litra na osobę) i zawsze starczało jej tylko na jeden dzień. Tak było codziennie przez 40 lat. Manna ustała dopiero dzień po tym, jak Izraelici wkroczyli do Ziemi Obiecanej. Takich właściwości nie ma żadna substancja występująca w naturze. Cała rzecz sprowadza się do tego, że Izraelici nie mieli pojęcia, co to jest. Właśnie dlatego nazwali ten pokarm „manna” - od hebrajskich słów: man hu, dosłownie: „Co to jest?” Gdyby to było coś dobrze nam znanego, jej nazwa nie miałaby sensu. Jako że manna była chlebem z nieba, uważana była za świętą i pewną jej część przechowano w Arce Przymierza w Świątyni. Rabini wierzyli, że ten chleb istniał w niebie już przed Stworzeniem Świata i pewnego dnia powróci na ziemię podczas nowego Exodusu z Mesjaszem. W Ewangelii według św. Jana 6:32-33, Jezus mówi uczniom: „Rzekł do nich Jezus: «Zaprawdę, zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Nie Mojżesz dał wam chleb z nieba, ale dopiero Ojciec mój da wam prawdziwy chleb z nieba. Albowiem chlebem Bożym jest Ten, który z nieba zstępuje i życie daje światu»”. „Ja jestem chlebem życia. Kto do Mnie przychodzi, nie będzie łaknął; a kto we Mnie wierzy, nigdy pragnąć nie będzie”. Wraz z przyjściem Jezusa Chrystusa, z Jego darem Eucharystii, niebiański chleb powrócił na ziemię. Cała idea Jezusa jako Chleba Życia opiera się na żydowskich nadziejach na nadejście nowego Mojżesza i powrotu manny z nieba. Pamiętajmy w modlitwie o wszystkich służących w Siłach Zbrojnych. Matko Boża Nieustającej Pomocy, miej nas zawsze w Swojej opiece. Święty Józefie, módl się za nami. Vivat Jesus! Chwała Jezusowi!

FR. BOB’S BRIEFS In the First Reading today, from the Book of Exodus, we hear about the miracle of the manna in the desert. In this painting entitled, The Miracle of the Manna (1594-1597) by Fabrizio Boschi, we see today’s First Reading beautifully illustrated. Recall how the Israelites are wandering in the desert, following their Exodus from slavery in Egypt. As the Israelites are wandering in the desert, they are complaining and grumbling against God because they have nothing to eat. God hears the grumbling of the people, and the Lord God tells Moses that He will rain down bread from heaven for the Israelites to eat. We hear, “in the morning, dew lay all about the camp, and when the dew evaporated, there on the surface of the desert were fine flakes like hoarfrost on the ground. On seeing it, the Israelites asked one another, "What is this?" for they did not know what it was. But Moses told them, "This is the bread

that the LORD has given you to eat." Regarding

the manna, the Israelites ask, “what is it?" The Scriptures give us some insight about the manna. In the Bible we read, “now the house of Israel called its name manna; it was like coriander seed, white, and tasted like wafers made with honey” (Ex. 16:31). Why did the manna taste like honey? It was a foretaste of the Promised Land, a land "flowing with milk and honey" (Ex. 3.8). When the Israelites crossed into the Promised Land, the manna stopped, and there was no longer any manna for the Israelites (Joshua 5: 10-12).

Moreover, manna is miraculous bread from heaven, given directly by God to His people for them to eat. In recent, modern times, many scholars and people have tried to identify manna with a natural substance, i.e. desert plant, insect, or other natural derivatives. However, the miraculous nature of manna is indisputable in the Bible. It is called “bread from heaven,” suggesting supernatural origin. Manna is called the bread of angels. We read in Psalm 78, “yet he gave a command to the skies above and opened the doors of the heavens; he rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven. Human beings ate the bread of angels; he sent them all the food they could eat” (Ps 78: 23-25). Moreover, manna no matter how much or little manna the Israelites gathered, it always measured out in the same quantity, one omer (about one liter per person) and it never lasted for more than one day. This occurred everyday for forty years and stopped the day after the Israelites reached the Promised Land. This is hardly something that natural substances could do. The whole point of manna is that the Israelites did not know what it was. That’s why they called it manna, from the Hebrew words (man hu), meaning “what is it?” If it was ordinary, the name would not make sense. Since the manna was supernatural, bread from heaven, some of the manna was preserved inside the Ark of the Covenant, in the Temple, and it was regarded as being holy, from God. The rabbis believed that this bread existed in heaven before the world began, and it would return to earth again one day at the new Exodus with the Messiah. “As the first redeemer [Moses] caused manna to descend, as it is stated “because I shall cause to rain bread from heaven for you” (Ex 16:4), so will the latter redeemer [Messiah] cause manna to descend (Eccl. Rabbath 1:9)

In the Gospel of John today, we hear Jesus say to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." The bread of heaven did return to earth with coming of Jesus the Christ, with His gift of the Eucharist. The whole context of Jesus’ Bread of Life discourse is centered on the Jewish hopes for the coming of a new Moses and the return of manna from heaven.

Cuneo Mansion and Gardens, the 100 acre estate in Vernon Hills built for the

founder of General Electric.

Lunch will be at Route 41 Roadhouse in Wadsworth which features some

fabulous home style cooking!

After lunch, the group will visit the Shiloh House, a 25-room mansion built as the residence of Zion’s founder, Dr. John Alexander Dowie. Dr. Dowie is is

credited with establishing the Christian Catholic Church in Zion and the City of Zion itself. Zion is known as one of the most representative religious utopias

and planned industrial communities of the 20th Century.

The bus leaves at 8 a.m. and returns at 5:00 p.m. to the Foran Funeral Home

parking lot, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Summit. The cost is $51 per person which includes the tours and lunch.
