June 3 The Night CapsThe band’s show presents classic country music, from roadside jukejoints playing ballads and foot-stompers, to two-stepping Texas dancehall tunes, as well as western swing from the time when country music was influenced by the uptown sound of the big band era. You will hear music from the songbooks of Hank Williams, Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys, Kitty Wells, Ernest Tubb and a whole lot more. From waltzes to fast & slow two-step rhythms, you will find “The Nite Caps” will keep you on the dance floor as long as the night continues. June 10 Dennis Polisky & The Maestro’s Men “The Maestro’s Men” are a versatile Polka Band formed in 1996. The leader and clarinetist Dennis Polisky was inducted into the Polka Hall of Fame in 2007. In addition to performing Polka melodies, they are also known to perform lively swing, big band and traditional standards. Combined, the band’s members share many years of performing experience. Leader Dennis Polisky has performed in Las Vegas, Lincoln Center in New York City, BIG E Eastern States Exposition, Springfield Symphony Hall, Mohegan Sun Casino and many large venues across the states. June 17 Taste of Honey The “Taste of Honey”, an 8 piece Tijuana Brass tribute band, recreates the instrumental sounds of the original Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. The band is led by Mike Tourville. Mike plays the trumpet and is joined in the brass section by Paul Brozek (trumpet) and Dave Bussell (trombone). Mark Roy is featured on acoustic and electric guitar and Marc Graveline is featured on the bass guitar. Danny Roy sets the beat on the drums and is joined by percussionists Brian Jyryngi and John Cieplik. Neal Schermerhorn is featured on keyboard and can be heard playing piano, organ, and marimba parts. June 24 Eight To The Bar“Eight to the Bar’s” material is a colorful mix of forties jazz and swing, fifties jump blues and their own swing-influenced tunes. This unique sextet packs a musical and visual wallop not seen in New England since the group’s inception in 1975. “Eight to the Bar” has released 12 CDs and have toured Europe and recently had the honor of playing in the Republic of Georgia where they were invited to perform by the U.S. Embassy there. The Hartford Magazine named them “Best Band 2015”. July 8 Off The Record“Off The Record” is known throughout Western Massachusetts. “Off The Record” plays hits from the 60’s and 70’s featuring classic rock & roll. They are a high energy group who gets their audiences up and off of their seats and dancing. July 15 The Eagles Experience“The Eagles Experience” aim to be the most authentic tribute show to the Eagles band available today. The members of “The Eagles Experience” are dedicated to presenting their part as accurately as possible. The band features the Eagles greatest hits of the late 1970’s and will provide the audience with an ultimate Eagles Experience they will not forget. The talented members of the band are Steve Kareta, electric & acoustic guitar, piano, vocals; Linclon Hubley, drums, vocals; Matt Stonewell, bass guitar, vocals; Tom Doherty, electric & acoustic guitar and Allen Stevens, electric & acoustic guitar, piano, vocals. Their song list now includes a selection of well over 300 songs from this legendary era of Rock ‘n Roll. This is their 17th year of performing throughout New England. If you like 50’s & 60’s music, come and dance and you will be “Shakin’ All Over”. July 29 UnionJack“UnionJack” features the look and sound of the 1960’s British Invasion era. They follow the history of the British Invasion from the early days of Beatlemania through the end of the decade. “UnionJack” takes you back to the days of The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Hollies, Searchers, Yardbirds, Badfinger, Dave Clark 5, and the many others that followed these great groups. They are one of Western Mass’ original tribute bands formed in 1979. The current lineup features: Gary Wilkinson, (Belchertown), (guitar, vocals), Dave Lempke, (Holyoke), (drums, vocals), Jim Brown, (South Hadley), (guitar, vocals), Peter Schindelman, (W. Springfield) (bass, vocals), and Greg Mitchell, (N. Adams) (keyboards, vocals). Wilkinson’s lead vocals on classic Beatles’ tunes have always been the band’s strength, along with some great material and more than a little bit of humor.

The group’s current line-up is comprised of Michael Savage, drums and vocals; Frank Cook, lead guitar; Keith Kruser, lead vocals, guitar, and keyboard; Scott Lawson Pomeroy, lead vocals and bass guitar; Steve Marien, sax; Scott Haber, trumpet. They have performed songs, selected from Neil Diamond’s greatest hits, including some lesser known “gems”, throughout New England and beyond. “The Diamond Collection” will surely entertain all who attend and ensure a memorable performance.

In this show, you will learn how opening a book can open your imagination and take you on an incredible journey. A special book can paint a picture in your mind, introduce you to new ideas, and maybe even change your life! In this highly participatory program, T-Bone will whisk you away on a fun-filled tropical adventure with the use of songs, stories, instruments, games and visual aids.

July 13 Big Joe The Storyteller presents: Ticklish Tales & Silly Stories From Around the WorldBig Joe presents a new show filled with folktales, fables and fairytales from around the world that will make you laugh, chuckle, giggle and smile! There will be stories, puppets, lots, and lots of fun! Hailed as one of the best in the business by the Boston Globe, Big Joe the Storyteller has tales for all ages and occasions. With original and classic stories along with puppets, props and surprises, Big Joe gives a performance that will delight, amaze and thrill.

July 20 Annie & Safari Bob of The Natural Wonder Band presents: Going Wild Annie & Safari Bob of The Natural Wonder Band will perform a musical show featuring catchy, original songs and dances about fascinating places and creatures of the wild. Travel down to the ocean depths in Glow Below. Do the Funky Elephant through the untamed jungle. Dance with unruly flowers in Girls in the Garden. Go wild and crazy on Earthquake Shake and get ready for the trek to the Antarctica for the Penguin Polka contest. Music, movement, puppets and jokes add up to a wildly entertaining time for all.

July 27 Dave Mindell presents: The Rockin’ Robin Garden PartyThis show includes familiar songs, such as, Puff The Magic Dragon, How Much is That Doggy In The Window and many more. Everyone is welcome to participate and sing along. There will be plenty of room to get up and dance to the music. This is a show where you will Rock Around the Clock and get All Shook Up! After the performance, all are welcome to stay for a meet and greet and receive a free, personally signed photograph.

August 3 Singing and Dancing with Terry A La Berry and FriendsEveryone will want to join in on the fun of singing and dancing with old and new friends. Music has a magical way of bringing people together and making for a special time. Terry, Erin and Tish, of Terry A La Berry and Friends, have been sharing that magic with children for the past 20 years all across the country.

August 10 Ed Popielarczyk presents: Ed Popielarczyk’s Comedy Magic Show My name is Ed Popielarczyk. I am a professional magician, balloon sculptor, flea circus ringmaster, and storyteller. I have been entertaining children and family audiences for over 30 years. My magic show is a comedy show that uses a lot of audience participation. YOU are the stars of the show because you help to make the magic happen. I usually have lots of trouble! I don’t just do a trick, I tell a story that revolves around each trick. It may be a short story or a longer one, but each story helps to bring the trick together. Everyone who comes on “stage” to be a helper receives a souvenir! I hope to see you there!

July 20 Annie & Safari Bob of The Natural Wonder Band presents: Going Wild Annie & Safari Bob of The Natural Wonder Band will perform a musical show featuring catchy, original songs and dances about fascinating places and creatures of the wild. Travel down to the ocean depths in Glow Below. Do the Funky Elephant through the untamed jungle. Dance with unruly flowers in Girls in the Garden. Go wild and crazy on Earthquake Shake and get ready for the trek to the Antarctica for the Penguin Polka contest. Music, movement, puppets and jokes add up to a wildly entertaining time for all.

July 27 Dave Mindell presents: The Rockin’ Robin Garden PartyThis show includes familiar songs, such as, Puff The Magic Dragon, How Much is That Doggy In The Window and many more. Everyone is welcome to participate and sing along. There will be plenty of room to get up and dance to the music. This is a show where you will Rock Around the Clock and get All Shook Up! After the performance, all are welcome to stay for a meet and greet and receive a free, personally signed photograph.

August 3 Singing and Dancing with Terry A La Berry and FriendsEveryone will want to join in on the fun of singing and dancing with old and new friends. Music has a magical way of bringing people together and making for a special time. Terry, Erin and Tish, of Terry A La Berry and Friends, have been sharing that magic with children for the past 20 years all across the country.

August 10 Ed Popielarczyk presents: Ed Popielarczyk’s Comedy Magic Show My name is Ed Popielarczyk. I am a professional magician, balloon sculptor, flea circus ringmaster, and storyteller. I have been entertaining children and family audiences for over 30 years. My magic show is a comedy show that uses a lot of audience participation. YOU are the stars of the show because you help to make the magic happen. I usually have lots of trouble! I don’t just do a trick, I tell a story that revolves around each trick. It may be a short story or a longer one, but each story helps to bring the trick together. Everyone who comes on “stage” to be a helper receives a souvenir! I hope to see you there!

Run Stanley 5k OCTOBER 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

Join us for a great cause on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 10:00 am at Stanley Park. Stanley Park and the Run Stanley Race Committee chair, Vanessa Diana, with the help and support of many volunteers from Westfield State University and the community, will be hosting the 6th Run Stanley. This event includes the 5k run/walk, our Munchkin Run hosted by Dunkin Donuts, our 5k K9 trail run/walk and new this year, Senior Stroll, a 1-mile walk. The race will help to raise funds for the overall care of the Frank Stanley Beveridge Wildlife Sanctuary. Please join the community of runners, walkers, hikers, dog owners, nature lovers and mountain bikers who love Stanley Park and want to improve the safety and accessibility of its wildlife trails.

John Hutchison is a wildlife biologist. John has 60 years of bird watching experience and trip leading. He has served as president of Allen Bird Club of Springfield, MA. Currently he is the senior trip leader of Tropical Audubon Society of Miami, FL.

The walks and workshops will meet at the main entrance sign to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary located across from the recreation field and will cancel if there is heavy rain. Wear hiking attire, sturdy boots/shoes, bring water, your field guides, binoculars and camera if you wish.

May 6 “Enjoying the Birds of Spring” with Janice Zepko 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.This workshop will focus on finding and identifying birds by sight and sound. We will learn how arriving birds seek out certain habitats in which to nest and tropical migrants feed and sing as they prepare to continue farther north. We will encounter many species, including Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole, and several species of warbler.

May 13 “Nesting Birds and Tropical Migrants” with Seth Kellogg 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.Join the group for a relaxing walk on Mother’s Day. We will pass through a variety of habitats in the sanctuary during the height of spring migration, stopping to enjoy both resident songbirds and tropical migrants as they feed and sing. We will encounter as many as 50 species, including thrushes, vireos, and warblers.

July 15 “The Mysterious World of Fungi” with Dianna Smith and the Pioneer Valley Mycological Society 1:00 p.m .– 3:00 p.m. Fungi are all around you, but often you do not even realize it. They play many important ecological roles, including decay of organic material and nutrient recycling and exchange. Come and learn about different groups of fungi and the fundamentals of identifying them by their fruiting bodies, the mushrooms. Part of the fun of looking for wild mushrooms is that you never know what may be popping up! We will walk along some of the park’s trails to see what we can discover.

September 9 “Birding During Fall Migration” with John Hutchison 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.In fall, songbirds pause in their travels each day to eat and build up their strength in preparation for another long night flight south when the weather is good. They can be very numerous one day and scarce the next day, but there are always a few that can be coaxed out of hiding. Our biggest challenge will be identifying warblers in their obscure fall plumages. We will work on the skills of coaxing and identifying in this morning workshop.

Homeward Vets Donation DriveMAY 5, 2018 from 8:00 am – 12:00 noon

Save the Date!! HELP FILL A SOLDIER’S HOME Stanley Park will be hosting a donation drive for the Homeward Vets Organization on May 5, 2018 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Homeward Vets, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that helps to provide home furnishings to previously homeless veterans who are transitioning into permanent housing and they rely solely on commercial contributions and donations. Homeward Vets is looking to collect small household items for veterans to set up their permanent homes. They are looking for dinnerware, cookware, and small appliances such as toasters, microwaves, toaster ovens and coffee makers just to name a few. Cash donations will also be accepted and will be used to purchase gift cards for Big Y and Stop & Shop for groceries.

Every child, no matter what his or her age, will enjoy this presentation. This program is free of charge in the Beveridge Pavilion Annex.

Scavenger Hunt - Presented by Stanley Park - July 25 Time: 10:00 amGrown-ups, get ready to spend some quality outdoor time with your child! Stanley Park is sponsoring a special children’s program – a Scavenger Hunt through the Park. Meet Park staff at the Beveridge Pavilion Annex to get your scavenger hunt booklet. Teaching Creatures - Presented by Rae Griffiths - August 1 Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.Stanley Park welcomes Rae Griffiths and her Teaching Creatures animals to the Park this summer. Teaching Creatures believes that children are naturally drawn to animals and can make meaningful and lasting connections with the natural world through positive interaction with animals. This program fosters curiosity and wonder, while teaching respect for all living creatures. The Teaching Creatures program is interactive, promotes participation and allows children to connect with the animals and educator. This program includes a craft where children can make an animal themed craft to continue what they have learned during the program. This program is free of charge in the Beveridge Pavilion Annex.

In a collaborative effort between Stanley Park, the Pioneer Valley Mycological Society and the Greater Westfield Community, 4 Nature Workshops will be conducted in the 229-acre Wildlife Sanctuary at Stanley Park this season. Janice Zepko, Seth Kellogg, Dianna Smith and John Hutchison will lead this year’s workshops. We hope you take advantage of these opportunities to enjoy nature’s beauty.

Janice Zepko has a master’s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation from the University of Massachusetts. She is very active in the Allen Bird Club of Springfield, serving as Field Trip and Publications Chair since 1995, participating in a variety of annual censuses that monitor bird migration, and breeding populations.

Seth Kellogg has a Ph.D. in English from the University of Massachusetts. He writes the bird column for the Springfield Sunday Republican and is the compiler of all bird sighting records for Western Mass. He was president of the Allen Bird Club of Springfield, and continues to be active with the Club, leading numerous field trips, and serving as Field Trip and Publications Chair for several decades. He is an avid hawk watcher and was a long time Editor of the “Northeast Hawk Watch” migration report.Dianna Smith is a founding member of the Pioneer Valley Mycological Society. She leads guided mushroom walks and offers educational programs on various topics in mycology for the PVMA and other mycology clubs, as well as universities, public schools, state parks, garden clubs, and environmental centers.

Stanley Park is open to the public with no admission fee. The season runs from the first Saturday in May to the last Sunday in November. The park opens at 7:00 a.m., closing times posted daily at Gates 1 & 2. (Approximately ½ hours prior to dusk)

John Hutchison is a wildlife biologist. John has 60 years of bird watching experience and trip leading. He has served as president of Allen Bird Club of Springfield, MA. Currently he is the senior trip leader of Tropical Audubon Society of Miami, FL.

The walks and workshops will meet at the main entrance sign to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary located across from the recreation field and will cancel if there is heavy rain. Wear hiking attire, sturdy boots/shoes, bring water, your field guides, binoculars and camera if you wish.

May 6 “Enjoying the Birds of Spring” with Janice Zepko 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.This workshop will focus on finding and identifying birds by sight and sound. We will learn how arriving birds seek out certain habitats in which to nest and tropical migrants feed and sing as they prepare to continue farther north. We will encounter many species, including Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole, and several species of warbler.

May 13 “Nesting Birds and Tropical Migrants” with Seth Kellogg 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.Join the group for a relaxing walk on Mother’s Day. We will pass through a variety of habitats in the sanctuary during the height of spring migration, stopping to enjoy both resident songbirds and tropical migrants as they feed and sing. We will encounter as many as 50 species, including thrushes, vireos, and warblers.

July 15 “The Mysterious World of Fungi” with Dianna Smith and the Pioneer Valley Mycological Society 1:00 p.m .– 3:00 p.m. Fungi are all around you, but often you do not even realize it. They play many important ecological roles, including decay of organic material and nutrient recycling and exchange. Come and learn about different groups of fungi and the fundamentals of identifying them by their fruiting bodies, the mushrooms. Part of the fun of looking for wild mushrooms is that you never know what may be popping up! We will walk along some of the park’s trails to see what we can discover.

September 9 “Birding During Fall Migration” with John Hutchison 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.In fall, songbirds pause in their travels each day to eat and build up their strength in preparation for another long night flight south when the weather is good. They can be very numerous one day and scarce the next day, but there are always a few that can be coaxed out of hiding. Our biggest challenge will be identifying warblers in their obscure fall plumages. We will work on the skills of coaxing and identifying in this morning workshop.

Homeward Vets is looking to collect small household items for veterans to set up their permanent homes. Janice Zepko has a master’s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation from the University of Massachusetts. She is very active in the Allen Bird Club of Springfield, serving as Field Trip and Publications Chair since 1995, participating in a variety of annual censuses that monitor bird migration, and breeding populations.

Seth Kellogg has a Ph.D. in English from the University of Massachusetts. He writes the bird column for the Springfield Sunday Republican and is the compiler of all bird sighting records for Western Mass. He was president of the Allen Bird Club of Springfield, and continues to be active with the Club, leading numerous field trips, and serving as Field Trip and Publications Chair for several decades. He is an avid hawk watcher and was a long time Editor of the “Northeast Hawk Watch” migration report.Dianna Smith is a founding member of the Pioneer Valley Mycological Society. She leads guided mushroom walks and offers educational programs on various topics in mycology for the PVMA and other mycology clubs, as well as universities, public schools, state parks, garden clubs, and environmental centers.

This includes those in wheel chairs, walkers, strollers and those folks who support accessibility. The Wheel Walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 9th. Nature Detectives - Be a detective and join us as we investigate different areas of nature. Participants will be exposed to an outdoor recreation setting while participating in nature activities. Children must be of required age by start of program. Parents take note that participants will visit the frog pond and footwear may get wet. Please send children to camp in clothing they may get dirty.

Nature Secrets - Children can participate in a variety of outdoor activities designed to stimulate their interest in the natural world. Nature crafts, outdoor activities and games planned.

Little Picassos - Your “Little Picassos” will be able to unleash the “artist within” in a supervised, instructive, child-friendly environment. Activities will include art, games, songs, and literature.

Walk Around the ParkThursday May 10 through June 28, 2017 from 9:30 am -10:30 am

As we welcome Spring & Summer, we will once again be holding our “Walk Around the Park”. The walks will be held on Thursday mornings from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. These walking sessions are part of Stanley Park’s Health Initiative to provide a beautiful environment in which to get some exercise, while meeting our staff and learning the history about various sites around the park. All abilities are welcome and group ability level will determine walk route. Possible routes will be within the main areas of the park and/or the Wildlife Sanctuary. Walking shoes are recommended. Wheel WalkJUNE 9, 2018 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Wheel Walk is our endeavor to bring awareness to “accessibility for ALL”, Stanley Park’s ongoing initiative. The event is a 1-mile walk through Stanley Park’s accessible paths, designed to accommodate everyone with or without wheels. This includes those in wheel chairs, walkers, strollers and those folks who support accessibility. The Wheel Walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 9th. Registration is at 9:00 am at the Beveridge Pavilion Annex. The Wheel Walk, starts promptly at 10 am. Following the walk is a picnic in the Pavilion Annex for all registrants. Form a team and get co-workers, friends and family involved. We encourage individuals and teams to collect pledges so your participation can make the most impact. Stanley Park and our Annual Fundraiser Committee, chaired by Kara Herman, invites you to our annual fundraiser, “Go for the Gold at Stanley Park”. The event will be held on September 8th at 5:00pm in the Beveridge Pavilion. Enjoy a fun tailgating experience with hearty stations, and beer and wine selections, catered by The Delaney House’s Log Rolling. This fundraiser is to benefit the repair and restoration of Stanley Park’s recreation and athletic areas, including the tennis courts, basketball courts and athletic fields. Run Stanley 5k OCTOBER 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

Join us for a great cause on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 10:00 am at Stanley Park. Stanley Park and the Run Stanley Race Committee chair, Vanessa Diana, with the help and support of many volunteers from Westfield State University and the community, will be hosting the 6th Run Stanley. This event includes the 5k run/walk, our Munchkin Run hosted by Dunkin Donuts, our 5k K9 trail run/walk and new this year, Senior Stroll, a 1-mile walk. The race will help to raise funds for the overall care of the Frank Stanley Beveridge Wildlife Sanctuary. Please join the community of runners, walkers, hikers, dog owners, nature lovers and mountain bikers who love Stanley Park and want to improve the safety and accessibility of its wildlife trails.

John Hutchison is a wildlife biologist. John has 60 years of bird watching experience and trip leading. He has served as president of Allen Bird Club of Springfield, MA. Currently he is the senior trip leader of Tropical Audubon Society of Miami, FL.

The walks and workshops will meet at the main entrance sign to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary located across from the recreation field and will cancel if there is heavy rain. Wear hiking attire, sturdy boots/shoes, bring water, your field guides, binoculars and camera if you wish.

May 6 “Enjoying the Birds of Spring” with Janice Zepko 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.This workshop will focus on finding and identifying birds by sight and sound. We will learn how arriving birds seek out certain habitats in which to nest and tropical migrants feed and sing as they prepare to continue farther north. We will encounter many species, including Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole, and several species of warbler.

May 13 “Nesting Birds and Tropical Migrants” with Seth Kellogg 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.Join the group for a relaxing walk on Mother’s Day. We will pass through a variety of habitats in the sanctuary during the height of spring migration, stopping to enjoy both resident songbirds and tropical migrants as they feed and sing. We will encounter as many as 50 species, including thrushes, vireos, and warblers.

July 15 “The Mysterious World of Fungi” with Dianna Smith and the Pioneer Valley Mycological Society 1:00 p.m .– 3:00 p.m. Fungi are all around you, but often you do not even realize it. They play many important ecological roles, including decay of organic material and nutrient recycling and exchange. Come and learn about different groups of fungi and the fundamentals of identifying them by their fruiting bodies, the mushrooms. Part of the fun of looking for wild mushrooms is that you never know what may be popping up! We will walk along some of the park’s trails to see what we can discover.

September 9 “Birding During Fall Migration” with John Hutchison 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.In fall, songbirds pause in their travels each day to eat and build up their strength in preparation for another long night flight south when the weather is good. They can be very numerous one day and scarce the next day, but there are always a few that can be coaxed out of hiding. Our biggest challenge will be identifying warblers in their obscure fall plumages. We will work on the skills of coaxing and identifying in this morning workshop.

Homeward Vets Donation DriveMAY 5, 2018 from 8:00 am – 12:00 noon

Save the Date!! HELP FILL A SOLDIER’S HOME Stanley Park will be hosting a donation drive for the Homeward Vets Organization on May 5, 2018 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Homeward Vets, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that helps to provide home furnishings to previously homeless veterans who are transitioning into permanent housing and they rely solely on commercial contributions and donations. Homeward Vets is looking to collect small household items for veterans to set up their permanent homes. They are looking for dinnerware, cookware, and small appliances such as toasters, microwaves, toaster ovens and coffee makers just to name a few. Cash donations will also be accepted and will be used to purchase gift cards for Big Y and Stop & Shop for groceries.

Zoo on the Go - Presented by Forest Park - July 11 Time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Stanley Park has scheduled Forest Park to bring its mobile zoo to the Park this summer. This program gives children the opportunity to get up close and personal with wildlife. They can pet the animals and ask questions about their natural environments and eating habits. Every child, no matter what his or her age, will enjoy this presentation. This program is free of charge in the Beveridge Pavilion Annex.

Scavenger Hunt - Presented by Stanley Park - July 25 Time: 10:00 amGrown-ups, get ready to spend some quality outdoor time with your child! Stanley Park is sponsoring a special children’s program – a Scavenger Hunt through the Park. Meet Park staff at the Beveridge Pavilion Annex to get your scavenger hunt booklet. Travel throughout the Park completing activities and return your finished booklet for a special prize!

Teaching Creatures - Presented by Rae Griffiths - August 1 Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.Stanley Park welcomes Rae Griffiths and her Teaching Creatures animals to the Park this summer. Teaching Creatures believes that children are naturally drawn to animals and can make meaningful and lasting connections with the natural world through positive interaction with animals. This program fosters curiosity and wonder, while teaching respect for all living creatures. The Teaching Creatures program is interactive, promotes participation and allows children to connect with the animals and educator. This program includes a craft where children can make an animal themed craft to continue what they have learned during the program. This program is free of charge in the Beveridge Pavilion Annex.

Carillon ConcertsMay 13 *special time* 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.June 17, July 15, August 19, and September 16 Time: 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Stanley Park presents our Carillon concerts on specified Sundays, May through September. The first concert on May 13th is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the annual Mother’s Day Tea. The remaining Carillon Concerts are scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Stanley Park’s Carillonneur, Joe Geehern, will perform a variety of musical selections.

Garden WorkshopWorkshop free of charge

This Garden Workshop will provide tips, ideas, and practical information. Participants are encouraged to bring questions for the Question and Answer session included in the workshop.

October 31 “How to Care for Your Roses and Planting Spring Tulip Bulbs” (workshop 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)Paul Kuczynski, Greenhouse/Horticulture Coordinator, will lead this workshop. He and his staff will give you tips and discuss how to care for your roses throughout the year, from spring to winter. The workshop will meet at the fountain in the Rose Garden. Please use Gates 2 or Gate 3 for parking and easy access to the Rose Garden.

In a collaborative effort between Stanley Park, the Pioneer Valley Mycological Society and the Greater Westfield Community, 4 Nature Workshops will be conducted in the 229-acre Wildlife Sanctuary at Stanley Park this season. Janice Zepko, Seth Kellogg, Dianna Smith and John Hutchison will lead this year’s workshops. We hope you take advantage of these opportunities to enjoy nature’s beauty.

Janice Zepko has a master’s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation from the University of Massachusetts. She is very active in the Allen Bird Club of Springfield, serving as Field Trip and Publications Chair since 1995, participating in a variety of annual censuses that monitor bird migration, and breeding populations.

Seth Kellogg has a Ph.D. in English from the University of Massachusetts. He writes the bird column for the Springfield Sunday Republican and is the compiler of all bird sighting records for Western Mass. He was president of the Allen Bird Club of Springfield, and continues to be active with the Club, leading numerous field trips, and serving as Field Trip and Publications Chair for several decades.
