Greetings From the Missionary’s Desk
On April 26 this year an early morning prayer meeting was held at Oak Grove Baptist Church with an emphasis on praying for those in the oilfield industry. This meeting was one of several prayer meetings held in associations across our state sponsored by our BGCO Oilfield Chaplains and the Oilfield Christian Fellowship. We are all aware of the effect the downturn in oilfield related jobs is having on individuals, communities and churches. Things have not gotten better. People are still hurting. Businesses are still struggling. Recently, Tom Beddow, Oilfield Chaplain for the BGCO, called me with an idea and a challenge. On Thursday, October 13, at 6:30 a.m., the annual Oilfield Prayer Breakfast will be held at the Tower Hotel on NW Expressway in Oklahoma City. With a heart for those in the Oil Patch and a heart for God’s people praying, Tom presented the idea and challenge of churches holding simultaneous prayer meetings across our state on that same morning. On Thursday morning, October 13, the churches of Cimarron Baptist Association could be open for God’s people to pray for one another and all those involved in the oilfield industry. Each church can plan their own prayer event. Some will have a complete breakfast, some will have a box of donuts, and some will have open hearts and open doors to those who want to pray. Two or three churches in the same community could plan a combined prayer meeting. Will your church accept this challenge? Bro. Bob
