Our communities have dealt with a variety of weather, extreme heat, torrential rains and beautiful summer days. Our hearts go out to those who have had to deal with flooding and wind damage. We pray the rest of the summer weather is good. American State Employees have been very busy at many community events. We have been involved in the County Fairs. Congrats to the 4-H members for all their hard work with their entries. We feel our young people learn so much from their fair experiences and we are so proud of them. Our employees were involved in judging the hog show, the Best Pie Contest and helping with many other fair activities. We also helped at the Hull Summerfest and the Commercial Chaos fundraiser. When August rolls around we realize school is right around the corner. We will host the Tree-mendous Savers “Back to School Splash” on Saturday, August 18 at the All-Season Center. Also, it’s time for us to host tailgates at our local high school football games. Please watch for details in your local papers and social media. Join us for a delicious meal before the games. A freewill donation will be taken and 100% of the proceeds are donated to the schools’ Booster Clubs. Enjoy the rest of the summer. August Stanley Speer, President Fixer Upper Tour The American Spirit Club and family members went on an amazing adventure at the end of June. Our first day was spent on the road with a picnic lunch served at a park in a little town in Kansas. On Monday, we arrived bright and early in Pawhuska, OK to pursue the excitement of the Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond’s Mercantile restaurant, bakery and store. We were not disappointed! The store was filled with cute and colorful objects for your home. The coffee shop/bakery was the perfect way to begin our fun day. At lunch we were served an amazing meal at the new Mercantile Event Center. We also walked across the Swinging Bridge and toured the beautiful Immaculate Conception Church. That evening, we spent time in the Bricktown area of Oklahoma City and toured the Oklahoma City National Memorial. The next day we traveled to Waco TX and took a city tour. It was very interesting to hear about the history and to see some of the local sights. On Wednesday and Thursday, we shopped till we dropped at the Magnolia Market and many other unique shops. We also indulged in delicious food, drink and cupcakes at the Magnolia Table and many other fun eateries. Chip and Joanna Gaines have made a big influence in the city of Waco. It is an exciting place to visit. On our way home, we stopped in Kansas City for the evening. We attended the New Theatre Restaurant for dinner and saw the musical, “Sister Act”. It was very entertaining! The Fixer Upper Tour was unusual because we had a lot of different family groups join us, but it was enjoyable to see all the different family dynamics. It was a great adventure to share with friends and loved ones! Loreen Marra, The American Spirit Club Coordinator

Welcome To Our New Spirit Club Members

Wally & Bev Boogerd, Charles Meiburg, & Sid & Deb Sandbulte

Stensland Farm Tour & More September 12 (Wednesday) On September 12, the Spirit Club will travel to the Stensland Farm near Larchwood, IA.

We will get an up-close look at their dairy operation, creamery and store. The family’s mission is to inspire people to care about where their food comes from. We will also stop at the Good Earth

State Park, eat lunch at the Falls Park and take a tour of the park & downtown Sioux Falls. Cost: $110 Deposit: $10

Okoboji & The Twins On Friday, July 6 the Spirit Club traveled to Okoboji. Our first stop was at Arnolds Park where many of us indulged our sweet tooth with a nutty bar and harkened back in time at the Maritime Muse-um. Then it was off to the main event of our day, the delightful musical, “Annie” at the Okoboji Summer Theatre. The cast was amazingly talented and it was so much fun to see this heart warming story again. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at 1015 Steak Company in Sibley on our way home.

It was a busy weekend for our coordinator and the bus driver

because the next day, July 7, the Spirit Club traveled to Target

Field to watch the Minnesota Twins. It was a beautiful day to

cheer on the Twins. They played the Baltimore Orioles and won

the game! It was also an honor to see two of our Sioux County

Veterans, Bruce & Denny Wright raise the flag before the game.

Their families had contacted the stadium months earlier to make

arrangements and it was just luck that we were there to witness

it. A day at the ball park is always fun, lots of yummy food and

time to visit with other fans...it was a wonderful day!
