Letters to the Editor

This may be, as the song states, “a momentary lapse of rea-son” on my part…but in my constant struggle to find that certain something….that one thing that lights a fire under

IRON members ….I am open-ing the floor to all of you …….I

want to hear what you really think….where you would like

to see IRON go, what you would like to see this alliance

achieve…who you want to compliment or not, why you

stay with this alliance and not

wander off into the abyss.

So I am introducing…Letters to the Editor

1. Keep it short and sweet….. 250 to 300 words

2. Keep it “libel-free.” You can criticize someone but don’t expect your letter to receive the light of day if you slander or libel someone. Free speech does have its limits.

3. Show good taste. This one is difficult. What is tasteless to one is a freely spoken opinion to another. Remember: you want to get the letter published, so curb your language accordingly.

Reparations to CnG

Something that has not always been well explained is the reps which we are pay-ing. So in search for answers I interviewed Queltocz (or simply Q) to find the terms that were set out for our rep payments.

What guidelines were set that allow IRON to pay reps and not start the timer?

The Easter Sunday Accords gave IRON 6 months from the end of the war to complete its reps payments. Our agreement to begin

payment of reps prior to the end of the war was made to show goodwill. We agreed that a proportional reduction in the time allowed to pay reps would be made in accordance with the amount of reps paid, so if 1/3rd of the reps was paid during war-time, the time allowed post-war would reduce by 1/3rd to 4 months.

However, we could take (for example) 5 months whilst at war to pay the 1/3rd of reps mentioned, and we would still have 4 months post-war to complete the remainder of the reps.

What is the best thing a member of IRON can do right now, in your opinion?

If they are involved in reps payments; be active and follow the instructions.

What is your focus in regards to reps?

I take great personal pride in ensuring that all the tasks I undertake on behalf of IRON are done to the best of my ability. My focus therefore, will be to ensure our reps are delivered accurately and on time for each and every round. There is no need for us to impress CnG with our organisational abil-ity, but, if we do, they will hopefully ac-knowledge that we aren’t causing them any problems, and it will give them no reason to complain about us on the OWF.

Any closing remarks

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Nerau

The NSO-RoK war

8/9/10

The current conflict between RoK and NSO started with acceptance of a rogue nation against the RoK protectorate TENE. The ruler Sedrick of the nation TRINITYO-MEGA was accepted into the NSO even though he had active wars against TENE. This nation had those wars declared because it claimed that a TENE nation spied on its nation and felt this was an act of war against its nation taken by TENE. This claim is confirmed as the nation TRINITYOMEGA was spied on by adzzz of Garcidia on 8/4/2010 6:55:51 PM and the first active offensive war was declared

by Sedrick on 8/6/2010 11:44:51 PM against Lord Percy of Grand Muskegon, a TENE nation. Ac-cording to the TENE declaration of war they did not check the spy operation screens and claimed the spy attack did not happen and did not condone it. This claim in the DoW of TENE is an outright lie as the spy attack did occur and it was to change the DEFCON level of the nation, a general war tactic. Whether or not the claims that Sedrick attacked 5-6 TENE nations and sent them into anarchy and of-fered peace to go on to the next one cannot be verified or discounted as the war screens could have been deleted and not last until today. Another claim in the TENE decla-ration of war that does not make sense is the timeline given. On August 8, 2010 they claimed that around 2 days ago this mess began with a melt down and then the next day Sedrick left the alliance. This can be falsified as the time line as on August 4, 2010 Sedrick wore the

AA of Mostly Harmless Alliance and on August 6, 2010 Sedrick has a war with a TENE active on his war screen. If the timeline that was posited by TENE was true then Sedrick would not have left the alli-ance until August 6 and the attacks would not have started August 7, 2010. This means that TENE is willfully withholding the timeline of incidents to make their claim of this being a defensive action true, or woefully incompetent when dealing with their own alliance affairs and do not keep logs of the arguments that supposedly started this affairs, nor did they keep track when they booted their own members or when the wars started. The evidence here suggests the entire reason the war started is flimsy as it is to protect a protectorate who seems to have failed miserably at dealing with the situation keep woefully inaccurate records on either the time line of what its members are doing.

Despite the situation NSO accept Sedrick as a member. This is not

uncommon as it’s NSO policy to accept any member that they want despite recent war situation it has. Shortly after Sedrick’s acceptance, RoK attacked him in defense of their protectorate. NSO’s Heft, a member of the Darth Council, contacted RoK about the attacks and asked them to stop the attacks. Van Hoo stated that RoK viewed his actions as a rogue attack on his protectorate and that he had to pay reps or face consequences of ZI. Heft made it clear that the NSO has only seen evidence that Sedrick was a defender and requested to see evidence of otherwise. This was not provided to him. Van Hoo respond-ed to Heft’s with we don’t care we shall continue to attack whether or not he is in NSO or not. Heft responded saying that he could do nothing to stop it but expect war aid coming to the nation’s aid unless proven to be the aggressor. To which Van Hoo said we would consider that an act of war and still did not provide the evidence that he asked for proving the aggression.

Stargatesg1

Page 7: August Herald Final

NSO proceeded to send aid to the rogue because in their mind he was defending his nation.

Van Hoo then proceeded to tell Heft that if the aid was condoned by the NSO government then to expect war between their alliances. Heft responded saying that he did not expected him to be that reasonable and not declare war on an alliance because they were defending a nation they felt was defending his nation in a conflict. Van Hoo main-tained it was perfectly reasonable as he told him that if aid was sent to a rogue that it would be an act of war. After this conversation NSO claims that they tried repeatedly to rectify the situation using diploma-cy, but Van Hoo disappeared and couldn’t be summoned and no one else had the authority to negotiate. Once the evidence was provided to NSO that satisfied NSO desire for evidence that Sedrick was the ag-gressor they tried to negotiate with RoK on their terms for what to do and it appears that RoK declared in

the middle of negotiations to settle the issues. The same thing they viewed as criminal that NPO did at the beginning of the Karma War. Van Hoo appears to be spending his time that he couldn’t negotiate with NSO planing for war. Rok formed a coalition that was uncecessarily large for the situation consisting RoK (5,631,991 ns, 191 nations), R&R (4,448,738 ns, 256 nations), VE (9,241,346 ns, 312 nations), GOD (3,359,956 ns, 92 nations) and TENE(491,177 ns, 42 nations) in or-der of their declarations. This coali-tion has a total of 23,173,208 ns and 893 naitons. This is against NSO’s 2,943,350 ns and 170 nations. The coalition’s declarations were based on MDAP between the parties, and roughly at the same time, with only TENE waiting until later in the day to declare.

After the first four declarations NSO stated publicly they were not going to request for military aid to prevent them from being the bait to

start another global war. This was responded to by some by saying that this did not excuse the allies of NSO in an attempt to bait them into fighting another global war. Assuming no other alliances come to the aid of NSO this leaves NSO and 2,943,350 ns and 170 nations. RoK’s coalition has a 7.87:1 ns advantage and a 5.25:1 nation ad-vantage over NSO. These numbers suggest that the result would be a curbstomp on NSO that is unneces-sary and tactics that SuperFriends claimed in the Karma coalition to be against because of what NPO with its Continuum and One Vision allies.

In my opinion both sides are in the wrong, but the RoK coalition is mo-reso. NSO is in the wrong for aiding a nation that was rogueing another nation. RoK is claiming that the ignorance of NSO in accepting the rogue makes it their fault and part of the reason for going to war. NSO throughout this time period was

just trying to get the facts of the situation throughout the process dealing with the war. A process RoK seems to have not taken part in whatsoever. Yes NSO should not have aided the rogue, but RoK did not provide enough time for NSO to evaluate all the facts and all contact with NSO was of a hostile nature. Also any diplomatic effort after the initial conversation with Heft and Van Hoo seems to be rebuffed with the claim of Van Hoo not being around, but posts from NSO seem to indicate he was and was just set on going to war instead of actually dealing with this diplomatically. Finally before RoK chastises NSO on dealing with their alliance igno-rantly when it comes acceptance of members, they should look at their protectorate which seems to be incompetent when coming to the defense and running of its own alli-ance because of gross misrepresen-tation of the facts presented in their declaration of war.

Member of The Month

I had the chance to meet and interview a great, hardworking mem-ber of IRON, and winner of the Member of the Month for July: Gamemaster!

First, congrats on getting MotM! How does it feel?I mean, it’s pretty cool to have that honor..I certainly didn’t expect itAnd thanks

How is the Vault doing with the Reps?I think that having Q, Matt and I all working on it helps a lot in terms of spreading the workload around..we are each doing our part and it seems that everything is flowing smoothly.I won’t deny that reps payment, especially of this scale, is a huge task. I wouldn’t ever want to do all of it by myself.

As for your recent promotion to Kilo CO, how do you find Kilo?Kilo is a bit slow at the moment at only 12 members, but I’m sure as we rebuild we’ll get more people and it will be more active

Any final remarks?A hearty thanks to all of our seeders and farms who have been ac-tive and prompt in sending offers.

There was a 100 word story con-test back in July.

Winner: Blade619

Story #8We stood to attention in the great chamber lined in glisten-ing marble where the council met. Never before had I been to such an event, every head of state and their military entou-rage was there. Standing be-neath the black and gold flag of our alliance stood the president, the words that followed made my blood run cold and yet burn with fiery expectation for it was time. In 24 hours, on the stroke of midnight the sons of our states under the flag of the alli-ance would march to water the fields of our enemies with their blood. Ferro Credimus.

Other EntriesStory #1Writer: ThelzarcIn basic I learned how to kill, to destroy, to survive.

But I was never prepared for this.

“I won’t lie to you. It’s not going well out there. But we need you back in the field. --IRON Com-mand”

That short letter might as well have been a gunshot to my chest. I kissed my wife and newborn son goodbye and walked to the car waiting to take me back to the death and destruction. As I was leaving, my son cried out for me.

I would have rather been shot a hundred times than hear that sound.

Story 2Writer: SojournerOn the battlefield of green felt, weapon cues in hand, the fight begins. The sound of gather-ing balls and racking is heard. There are no words just arro-gant expressions. I stare silent, I know I will win.

I approach the table with confi-dence and stick in hand. My op-ponent smirks, leaning against the next table where his buddies stand together. There are others who gather to place bets on the victor.

I chalk, lean over the shaft and cock, and follow through with all the strength I have. The balls dance and bump each other. “Eight ball in, I win!”

Story 3Writer: SojournerHe was an odd looking man; slight build, a wig of long blond hair, black nail polish, a gold leather biker jacket- one size too small, tight black pants, black leather studded arm bands, and makeup. He was a client of mine. We entered the building, all eyes on us, snickers and stares.

He rarely left his apartment but this trip was his monthly visit: he never missed this out-ing. We walked the long hallway to the locked doors at the end, the memory unit. As the door opened he saw her, she saw him. Mothers never snicker, they love.

Page 10: August Herald Final

Story 4Writer: Blade619100 words for 100 miles, a march of the forlorn hope. A band of brothers who walked away leaving behind the radio-active wastelands of their once proud city. Turning back they made one final salute to those who had perished in the last bas-tion of their empire.

They carried with them only the memories of their wives and the battered remains of their flag, the greatest symbol that they would rise again to get a revenge so great that their flag would fly from every street, their symbol of justice, honour, unity and strength. The flag of IRON.

Story 5Writer: Blade619Last night you made me the happiest man in the world. As you lay smiling in my arms, I realised there are a million ways to say that “I love you”, a mil-lion more to say how “I’ll al-ways stand by you”. Ultimately there’s no way I can possibly tell you how it feels when you’re but three inches from my face, a picture of perfect serenity.

When you’re gone and far away I’ll keep that etched on my heart. But hush now Beauti-ful. Close your eyes. I’ll be here while you sleep and I’ll wake you with a kiss.

Story 6Writer: Blade619Drip drop, drip drop. I found solitude in the steady rhythm of the water falling from my nose, finding peace under a sky torn by great lumps of metal.

The shrill blast of a whistle brought reality crashing home. This was it, the moment when I would join my brothers as mar-tyrs for the cause. We jumped out of our positions and charged headlong into the withering storm of bullets; ears ringing, heart and legs pounding I drove forwards.

Here I lie, surrounded by the living and the dead, waiting to be claimed by this world... or the next.

Story 7Writer: Blade619Three years you’ve been waiting for this moment. The moment when you’d have your chance to put and end to the life of the greatest criminal of the century. Checking your watch you note the date as 6/6/60, fitting.

You lie down beside a rock and give your gun a final check, you can afford no mistakes. Put-ting the scope to your eye you catch a glimpse of your target. You steady your breathing, and slowly squeeze the trigger like you did a thousand times before, the crack burned in your ears, you watched spellbound as he fell. Well Done.

FARMING SOME GODDAMN

TECHNOLOGY

a conversation with Matt Miller

To start off this story, I was run-ning very late to work. Man RH can throw some crazy part... well for this, let’s say I was working very hard to the ante meridiem. As I clean off my desk from last night’s burning of the midnight oil, I notice a note from my editor. It turns out I have to interview a man who works a few doors down from me. A man that still pretty much intimidates the hellas out of me. This must be a

lot as I am not even greek. This will be a great Monday already.I wish I could tell you what was written on the back of the note, but my office is so small, I cannot flip it over. Yeah it’s bad enough; we call my office the closet. I am pretty sure it’s a joke.Jokes… man it’s early, early enough for me to still wear my morning jacket; it’s somewhat wrinkled though. Meh, professional enough to get me to the break room because coffee, yeah that will make things better. What do I ask him thoough.. “thud” is the sound I made as I hit the floor.“Hi Matt, how was your day?” I look up and ask as I collect myself from the floor. He flashes the trade-mark grin. “Excellent, as usual. “I should start this interview now, those vault guys are major nerds…“How long have you been in IRON?” I ask with certain cha-grin due to my fall and his lack of movement other than to help me up. “Since day 1 in CN so almost 51 months now.” I look around to see if Q is around; he is far more cooler

to talk to I think. Oh he is walking away…I follow him to his office, a few doors down from me, might I add, but we are disturbed by some flashes of lights; fanboys have made it into the chambers me thinks, oh, just Peron.“So right away,” I ask, “How did you get involved in the IRON Vault?” My confidence builds.“I was one of the first IRON mem-bers to really uncover the game mechanics from an economic point of view, so the Vault was a perfect fit when we introduced it. I worked under another member for a while but he disappeared rather quickly,” he replied. with equal confidence, and a slight look of confusion. Man this guy is pretty full of himself? “Was it your first choice?” I leaned in, hoping to get more of that clas-sic arrogance he is known for. “Yes, it was a hole that needed filling and I wanted to tackle that challenge for IRON.” Dang. He is a nice guy.By this time, his focus is still clearly on numbers, and not on me, but our coffee has set in I think. It’s hard

to describe, but when you are in a room with this guy, you can’t help but feel relaxed around him. Wait am I feeling more comfortable?“Looking back, how does it feel go-ing from the top dog in CN to just another resident bad@ss?” I ask, hoping he doesn’t take it the wrong way. “I was number 1 for over two years and that got old. Kicking in the teeth of our enemies is much more fun,” he casually responds, with another trademark grin.I tend to wonder off while we chat; he doesn’t seem to notice that I am staring at his office decorum; if you had an old cigar club with the plush leather couches, wood panel and green wall paper, you are getting close. I should really see if I can get an office that is slightly bigger than a closet…*Eheem.” He clears his throat; oh he had noticed…“Have you always been a bad@ss btw?”Wait what? This is my first journalistic approach and that is the first thing to come to mind! “Ask the 15 Gramlins I’ve fought since Karma that have now

DVDCCHN

Page 13: August Herald Final

ter of the IRON Vault as my time comes to an end.”When the time comes! Is this a TMZ moment? I should change the subject, but what is that door behind him! Q walks in, notices me, then quickly walks back out the same door.. Matt follows him, the door shuts abruptly behind him. I guess I will wait here.Time goes by, and by, and by, what is that smell though? No doubt some secret nerd stuff, oh Matt walks back in; is that Patchouli I smell?“What is it like in the vault secret chambers?” I ask, wondering if a skunk is out in the yard.“Sir Jesus and his gang... hey do you have any burritos or maybe gummy bears? I’m freakin’ hungry man. What were we talking about again?”Matt’s eyes are bloodshot, clearly from being overworked; he is so tired; he cannot stop chuckling and looking at his hands. Yeah it’s time to end this. “Btw, out of curiosity, who is your favorite current IRON Secretary of State, who is also in-

terviewing you?” “I prefer Blu-Ray actually. Just kidding, you know I love ya man!” he said as he gave me a hug. Huh, is that him that smells like incense? He is suddenly very huggy. Right I said huggy. I begin to walk out the door; I have Curzon hanging out in front of my door. “Hey Curz, I am out of the close.t” He laughs, and replies I really do need a new office that is bigger.I look back and spout off real quick, yeah this is the quote to fin-ish the story. “If you could leave on impression on the republic, what would be written on your ceno-taph?” I ask Matt, proud of the depth of my question… “Live each day in service of your brothers and sisters. Rejoice for the Republic is strong! And farm some goddamn technology!”

deleted... oh wait.” he replied, not skipping a beat. Man this guy is smooth.High fives aside I, nay we, really need to know what makes this guy tick…“If you could choose five songs for the ordinary man to listen too, what would they be?” [He replied,] “Wish You Were ‘Here’ - Pink Floyd, ‘Simple Man’ - Lynyrd Skynyrd, ‘ Civil War’ - Guns N’ Roses, ‘Above and Below’ - The Bravery, ‘Hail Mary’ - 2Pac, and ‘Method Man’ - Wu-Tang Clan. I needed six!” Yeah I noticed he said six….“Why is that?” I lean in further; now we are getting somewhere. “The above list has something for every mood; it’s got music to relax (Wish You Were Here), keep you grounded to who you are (Simple Man), something to get you ready to roll on someone if necessary (Method Man), and remember the fallen (Hail Mary).”Ok, he is vulnerable, and actually making eye contact! “What is the best time you have experienced in

IRON?” I ask. There goes that grin again”The Unjust War since we got to be the centerpiece in taking out a group that threatened our exis-tence.”“And the worst?” looking for some meat and vulnerability. He does not blink “The first days of the Karma War; we blinked. This will not hap-pen again.”“If you could change anything, would you?” Now, I think I heard this question on Oprah. “I would annoy everyone in IRON to either buy or sell tech at full speed, at all times.” he retorted. I was so close to getting him out of the vault mode.Is that really a holographic clock! Man I wish I had some of this technology is what I thought when I noticed he was still staring at me. Quick question, think, think think, my phone goes off to remind me I have racquetball with Queltocs.“I hear Q is working well as a fel-low IRON Vault councilor; did it take some adjustment?”“Q is amazing; I’ve known this for a long time now. He will make an excellent replacement as Minis-

Student of Month

Thelzarc of AmestriaFrom the beginning, the cadet has

shown a dedicated mindset to better his knowledge and relationship to the

Republic. He immediately has taken up on a job placement; which his superior

strongly endorses for his efficiency. Despite of his RL commitment, he has been frequently seen in the commu-

nication medium as well. For reasons stated and more, and his active place-

ment within the Rep. program, the cadet is fully qualified for this honor

and recognition.

Spirit of Gold BarCrusty Juggler

He has been a great deal of help get-ting the newspapers up and running. He has spent countless hours creat-ing graphics, layout templates, and headers. He has also written articles, worked on layout, and many other things too numerous to mention. He volunteers without hesitation. He is a tireless worker for the alliance, a person who boosts morale and a leader to be admired.

DiligencePhish

phish has played a major role in The Herald being published the last 2 months. He spent many hours working on the layout and problems were many.He was always there when I needed help and did not complain. He has continued to find solutions and to work for the good of IRON. He also serves as MS in Hades, and he is just as diligent a worker there.

IRON WarriorJammy

Jammy was very willing to fight a Gramlin named Tedqu Lasan of Sipaway in the name of IRON. He responded quickly and openly tried to do the best he could at war. He read the guide and soon was doing very suc-cessful attacks. By the end of the 7-day war, Tedqu Lasan of Sipaway was left at merely 47.556 NS. He, in my eyes, is an IRON Warrior and he will grow to become a great and skilled fighter!

Jharius II, Davian Thule, Kasabian, JerBear, Discordia, Blaskowicz, Dom Zak, trs4ece (Recruiters) They for the month of july have out-performed the other half of the recruit-ers by going above their duties and recruiting more then once in day or two. I haven’t seen this in quite a while and am personally happy that I have such a current group working together so well.
