Steel Plate Shoot By: Nelson Fagan

July 10th was a good day to shoot steel plates. It was pleasing to see a couple of new shooters join the ranks. We had Jack Heeb and Bill Schneider join us and we hope that they will come back. When all was said and done, we shot 30 rimfires and 28 centerfires. Thanks to all who helped out. July 17th Across-The-Course Match Match Director – Art Douville

Despite the muggy July weather, ten competitors turned out for the Across-the-Course, military rifle match. The match tested the competitor’s ability to shoot from the off-hand, sitting and prone positions. It also included a speed challenge to the sitting and prone legs that required 10 aimed shots to be fired in 60 and 70 seconds respectively, with a mandatory reload. All total, 50 rounds are fired for a maximum possible score of 500-50X. Although no one achieved that benchmark, Art Douville claimed first place with a respectable

373 shooting an M14A2. Dazy Perry and his AR15 shot a 357 while an M1 Garand shot by Paul Danner placed 3rd with a 330. John Hagan, shooting the only

bolt-action, a Swiss K31, placed 4th with a 281. Additional thanks go to the

remaining shooter for competing and assisting with setup and clean-up; Nelson Fagan, Gene Blackburn, Dick Fille, Jim Vance, Matt Van Steen and guest Pryor Davis . The next match should be in October.

CHATUGE GUN CLUB MEMBERS WIN AT NRA NATIONALS

The 2010 NRA National Silhouette Championships held at the Ridgway Rifle Club in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, in June made front page headlines of the local Pennsylvania paper, the Ridgway Record. These Smallbore and Highpower Silhouette Rifle Championships hosted over 125

competitors from the USA but also from Mexico, Ireland, and Canada. One of the competitors whose photo was featured in the paper receiving a trophy was Chatuge Gun

Club Member Carol Blackburn, who took 1st A in Smallbore HunterClass. Other Chatuge Gun Members who won trophies at the competition were Ed Jones, who took 4th and 5th place in A class in High Power Silhouette Rifle; Verlee Jones, who won 3rd place in AA Class in Match I of Smallbore Silhouette Rifle, and Gene Blackburn, who took home all the Super Senior trophies in both

High Power and Smallbore Silhouette and Hunter Rifle and First in Class in High Power Silhouette Rifle.
