So much to do! The 2017 season for the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has been an exciting time, complete with meaningful milestones, measurable impact, and plans for the future. Our celebration of 50 million in charitable giving provided a platform to thank the long list of partners, players, and fans that have shaped the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. It has also allowed us to shine a light on the outstanding charities in our community that are supporting and caring for our neighbors. Our entire Arizona Diamondbacks family is deeply committed to our community and our fans. We are always looking for ways to connect and enhance our support of projects and programs that invest in our local neighborhoods, schools, non-profits, and everyday heroes. To do so, we work tirelessly to create a better Arizona for our families and children. Over the summer, we partnered with Safelite AutoGlass to deliver new bicycles and helmets to the Boys and Girls Club, offer 1000 swim lessons to our community’s most vulnerable children, provide vaccines to children in need, and offer car seats to families without a safe option. Additionally, we worked with partners from across Arizona to provide more than 10,000 backpacks to children just in time for back-to-school. We have worked with Arizona Milk Producers and United Health Care to gather food, funds, and supplies for organizations including St. Mary’s Food Bank, Kitchen on the Street, St. Vincent de Paul and Mom’s Pantry as a part of our ongoing efforts to address the needs of hungry families. D-backs MVT Program (Most Valuable Teachers) has allowed us to celebrate outstanding educators who are devoted to shaping and inspiring our next generations of All-Stars. In September, we will support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer organizations, including Phoenix Children’s Hospital, at the D-backs v. Marlins game on Saturday, September 23rd. We will share stories of hope, perseverance, and the champion’s spirit displayed by amazing children in our community fighting for their lives. Our Arizona Diamondbacks family will honor the memory of Hollis, Gianna, and Tyler – three incredible D-backs fans whose families will forever be a part of ours. Each of these warriors fought DIPG, a terminal form of cancer with limited treatment options. The D-backs are proud to have stood by our young friends while they confronted this horrible disease, and support the efforts of their families to change the future of research and treatment. We will continue to battle alongside them until we have found a cure. So much to celebrate! So much to do!

The 2017 season for the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has been an exciting time, complete with meaningful milestones, measurable impact, and plans for the future. Our

celebration of 50 million in charitable giving provided a platform to thank the long list of partners, players, and fans that have shaped the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation.

Vincent de Paul and Mom’s Pantry as a part of our ongoing

efforts to address the needs of hungry families.

With so much to celebrate and so much yet to do, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation cherishes the platform to impact the lives of those in our community. It is only with support like yours that we can take care of the things that matter in the ways that mean the most.

SCIENCE OF BASEBALL

Arizona Diamondbacks Science of Baseball, presented by Chase and Insight, aims to encourage the pursuit of careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math by pairing their instruction with the excitement of D-backs baseball. Since the program’s inception in 2013, over 400 teachers and 9,000 students have been exposed to the program through teacher training sessions and youth camps. This year,

over 100 teachers will receive the corresponding curriculum, supplies, and professional development training for their grade level entirely free of charge.

The program serves teachers and their students in grades three through eight. The lessons, created and taught by STEM expert and University of Arizona professor Ricardo Valerdi, each target different elements of America’s Pastime to engage young learners. Some of these lessons include finding the optimal trajectory angle for a homerun, the area of an individual’s strike zone, and the effects of proper hydration and nutrition through hands-on experiments. By providing teachers with the curriculum and supplies for free, the D-backs can enable them to create learning opportunities in the classroom and on the field.

Students are encouraged to explore their own scientific questions about the game and present them at the annual Diamondbacks Science of Baseball STEM Showcase. Their projects will be featured alongside other exciting interactive booths like robotic dinosaurs from the Phoenix Zoo, model planets from Challenger Space Center, and slime-making with the Society of Women Engineers. Our very own Arizona Diamondbacks Science of Baseball program will have an entire section in the centerfield concourse so that fans can participate in some of baseball’s most scientific elements, including taking the field with the team on Opening Day in the Cox Connections VR Bullpen.

D-backs Science of Baseball, presented by Chase and Insight, is making it easier for Arizona students to embrace learning at Chase Field and beyond!
