Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a very restful and enjoyable summer vacation. The staff and personnel have been very busy over the summer preparing our schools for the new year. On behalf the entire cabinet, welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year! I hope you have enjoyed quality vacation time with family and friends.

I am excited as we begin a new year for the opportunity to work with a great team of educators to ensure each child achieves great success in the 2019-2020 school year. Together we are going to do extraordinary things.

Maintenance Projects

During July’s CCPS Board Meeting, Facilities Coordinator Trevor Herndon updated the board on maintenance projects taking place across the district. In addition to the almost 100 work orders generated by our schools weekly, Herndon specified 31 current projects that total almost $643,000.00. Included in that total is the Hopkinsville High School roof repair of $295,950.00 which grows the amount spent over the last three years to maintain HHS to $1,057,911.03. The CCPS Maintenance Department is second to none and we thank Trevor and his staff for making our schools the best they can be.

Pennyrile Electric Hosts Chamber of Commerce

Partners in Education Luncheon

The Christian County Chamber of Commerce hosted our Partners in Education (PIE) luncheon recently! The luncheon, sponsored by Pennyrile Electric, gave our school representatives the opportunity to discuss the value received through these partnerships! Partnerships with local industry allows us to better serve the needs of our students and their employers. Penny Knight and Shawna Johnson talked about the great work our Partners do on behalf of Gateway Academy and CCPS. Thank you to all our Partners in Education!

Michelle Ladd, CCPS Director of Special Education and Preschool, led the annual training for Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) Chairpersons this summer. The ARC teams, including parents, work together to meet the needs of students with disabilities by developing appropriate services.

Summer CCPS Chief Instructional Officer Amy Wilcox and her

department staff led the planning for the Christian County Public Schools Leadership Retreat. The 4-day Retreat brought

together all school administrators in the district as they prepared for the new school year. The Instructional staff were able to update administrators on new and existing educational mandates.

CCHS Art Students Win Congressional Awards

KERALOT Youth Services Center at Christian County Middle

School held its “Dream Team” Mentoring Conference 2019 this

summer with Robert Jackson. Jackson is a renowned motivational

speaker and his conference, titled "No More Excuses Stand Up",

targets at risk youth like those that make up CCMS’s Dream

Team. Mentors at the conference were Vice Killebrew, Denise

Steel, and Norris Kennedy.

Three Christian County High School art students have been

named the winners in the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for

Kentucky’s 1st District! Congressman James Comer recently

announced Laura DeLoach of Christian County High School as

the overall winner for her piece titled “Euphoria"! DeLoach’s art-

work will hang in the U.S. Capitol all year, and she will be honored

at a reception in Washington, DC! She is now eligible for a $3,000

yearly scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)

or Tennessee Wesleyan College. In addition to the winning art-

work hanging in the Capitol, DeLoach’s piece will also be featured

on the house.govCongressional Art Competition page!

CCHS’s Asjion Catlett and Kaleb Hilton tied for 2nd place and

their works will hang in Congressman Comer’s office on Capital

Hill. Catlett’s artwork is entitled “Warrior” and Hilton’s artwork is

“Rosy”!

Gateway Academy to Innovation and Technology was selected Hillyard's 2019 Best Maintained Facility! Gateway Principal Penny Knight and CCPS Facilities Coordinator Trevor Herndon presented the award to custodians Kenny Allen and George Hampton while Gateway scholar Rachel Baker spoke on behalf of her fellow scholars. School students throughout Kentucky participated in the annual Public Service Recognition Week Poster Contest recently! Posters were created around the theme “Making a Difference” and Sinking Fork Elementary School's David Johnson finished second in the state! The winners were recognized at a ceremony at the Kentucky Horse Park. Great job David!

July is Orientation Month for New CCPS Teachers

Christian County Public Schools Lead Custodians attended the Kentucky Custodial Conference in Paducah this summer. Sponsored by the Kentucky School Plant Management Association, the conference is Kentucky's only custodial conference dedicated to Educational Facilities. Highlights of the conference are:

Training Seventeen Christian County Public School seniors attended the prestigious 2019 Kentucky Boys State on the campus of

Campbellsville University. The 84 year-old program allows students to practice the theories of American government through the actual operation of city, county and state offices. Students benefit from the network of peers, and ready themselves for whatever post-high goals they may have in life!

Hopkinsville High and Middle School parent support group Tiger Connection worked all summer to build membership and to inform parents and students of the group’s mission to serve HHS and HMS. The group recently hosted a Prayer Walk at the schools. The turnout for the walk by parents, grandparents, friends and students was outstanding. Organizations like Tiger Connection are what make Christian County Public Schools special.

Christian County Public School Administrators continued their school year preparation as the annual July district retreat allows them the

opportunity to coalesce around the common goal of educating every child in our district. This is not a job but a mission for our staff. The retreat was held at the Bruce Convention Center and the Alhambra Theatre where the Pennyroyal Arts Council hosted us.
