More than News “March Priorities” March is here. It is hard to believe but we have only 31 days until two events occur on the same weekend. The question is which event will come up with the biggest crowd? Will the Elite Eight prove victorious, or will Easter? I guess it all depends on who is playing in the elite Eight. Around here we would be in heaven if among the Elite Eight we would find teams like Kansas State, Kansas and Oklahoma State. If that were to happen we might find a few of our regulars missing on Easter Morning. But, if it so hap-pens to be that our three teams go through to the final four; we would be missing a few more the next Sunday. Ah -- to dream sweet dreams. If the final four became a big 12 tournament, the TV audience would plummet for the NCAA Tour-nament. Why? Because the largest crowds that are really crazy about basketball come from the big eastern conferences. The ratings and the money would fall through the floor. Sorry to say we in the Big 12 do not rate because we do not have enough people or money. However, if you consider how Easter would stand against the NCAA tourney when compared to the world; then the winner would be hands down. Easter will win every time. Worldwide Easter will win even when compared to the Super Bowl. Now this might seem to be rather ridiculous to compare how many people would watch the Elite Eight as compared to attending Easter services. Yet everything that has numbers are compared to-day. John Lenen believed the Beatles had more followers than Jesus did. It is a proven fact that the churches in the United States have been losing numbers ever since the 1950’s. Here in the US, it will not be long before there will be more people watching little league on Sunday morning that attending all the churches in our nation. The ultimate question is not so much who is in church today, or who is interested in college bas-ketball. The only question that really counts is who will be entering Heaven's gates on the last day of Judgment. Numbers can be important. But the only real number that really counts is you. Will you be chosen to enter that final number on Judgment day? Likewise, If you are a husband or a wife; a father or a mother; a grandmother our a grandfather; the next question that should be on your mind should be: will all of my family be there in heaven with me? Human beings have a wide variety of interest. The question is which interest has priority in their lives. I am afraid that getting into heaven is a priority that most people put off until they are faced with life and death decisions. By then their priorities might catch up with them and heaven may not be on the list that really counts: God’s list. We have 31 days left to do a check to see which priority is essential to your life. Which priorities will win in your life: The World's or God's? Only you can answer that question. Come to Church during Lent and let God have a chance to show you what He has in mind for you and your family. Your Pastor Terry McGuire

It is a new year – are you looking for something new to do?

The Prayer Shawl group meets every Tues. at 4:30 in the Bride’s room for crocheting, knitting and conversation. You can work on your own

project or create a shawl. Currently the group is trying to make enough shawls to present one to everyone in ACCC. Wouldn’t you like to join us?

Also Coming If you missed the February Crafternoon you missed out on lots of laughter, tangles of yarn and a good time resulting in some snazzy scarves. The next Crafternoon is March 10 at 3 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The March project is flo-ral arranging. We will take some of the odds (lots of odds) and ends from the storage room and turn them into brand new centerpieces to be used at the church. Beth Farmer will be leading this Crafternoon. There is no charge for this Crafter-noon. Drinks will be pro-vided. April Crafternoon – Card making, led by Rachel Hadsall.

The song “We are the Church”, reminds us that the church is not a building but the church is a people. Anthony UMC is responsi-ble for worship services at Country Living, Home Comfort., and ACCC on a rotating basis with other local churches. Several of our members live in each of these facilities. Please consider joining Pastor Terry and Mar-tha at these worship services. The next scheduled date is Wednesday, March 6, Home Comfort 3:00 and ACCC 4:00. The dates will also be posted in the bulletin, newsletter and on the screens. Special thanks to Kathy Francis, Don Jensen, and Pat Bertholf for participating in January’s Country Living service.

Good things need help! The Open Door Community Food Ministry was blessed to receive over 69,000 pounds of food donations during the holidays. Many families re-ceived turkeys and holiday food items. The New Year is here and the need is still great. Food do-nations at the Community Food Ministry are low during this crucial time of transitioning into the New Year. We are asking churches to give the fol-lowing: Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruit, Canned meat (tuna, chicken), Canned or Dried Soup, Cereal, Oatmeal, Boxed Dinners (hamburger/tuna help-er), Pasta Dinners (mac & cheese), Boxed Instant Potatoes. Each month our church and the Kiwanis pass out food for about 25 families here in Anthony. Next week we will have boxes by the doors for you to place food items. The van will go to Open Door on February 8, 2013 to take food we donate and pick up packages of food for us to help our local people.. Many thanks for your generosity! IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THE NEWSLETTER

Due to the ever changing postal regulations, the AUMC will no longer be able to bulk mail our monthly newsletters. The post office is requiring a heavier grade paper which will increase the cost of mailing significantly. The change to 40 lb. paper is not only cost prohibitive, but does not come in the size we currently use to print on and likely will not feed through our older model copy machine. Please call or email the church office with your email address so you can receive the newsletter in that format ( 842-5486 or [email protected]) Those without computers or internet access will continue to receive the newsletter, just in a slightly different format. Currently, the AUMC does not have enough households receiving the newsletter by mail so the mailing list is “padded” to meet the 200 addresses necessary to qualify for bulk mailing. Almost 20 of the newsletters are addressed to the AUMC so we meet the required 200 addresses. By emailing the newsletter, the AUMC would save almost $1200 a year. As always, the newsletter will be available in the church office and at the entrances of the church. Please be good stewards. Save a tree, save some postage and receive your newsletter by email if possible.

THE NEWSLETTER MAY ALSO BE GOTTEN ON OUR WEBSITE. IF YOU CANNOT OPEN THE EMAIL THAT IS SENT OUT YOU MAY GO TO www.anthonyumc.org THERE YOU WILL GO TO THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE PAGE AND RIGHT CLICK ON NEWSLETTER. THIS WILL BRING UP THE NEWSLETTERS FOR THIS YEAR AND LAST YEAR AS WELL. FROM THERE YOU CAN READ ON THE COMPUTER OR PRINT IT OFF AND READ IT. If I CAN BE OF FURTHER HELP PLEASE CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE @ 842-5486.

KMOM Once a year, community volunteers come from all parts of Kansas to provide free dental services to those who cannot afford care. Dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, pediatric dentists and oral surgeons donate their talents to provide treatment to both children and adults. This includes the most urgent dental needs, like extractions, fillings, oral surgery and dental hygiene. The 2012 Kansas Mission of Mercy (KMOM) will be held in Wichita March 1st-2nd at the Kansas Pavilion II. This Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation project typically provides free dental care to 2,000 people during the two-day event, treating those who are in pain and great need. KMOM is celebrating its tenth year of free clinics, providing dental care to over 20,000 people to date. For more information, including how to volunteer, donate or receive dental care at the event, visit www.ksdentalfoundation.org.

We have a new lady in our congregation. We want to welcome Bella Sue Freeman to our church. Bella weighed 8 Pounds 81/2 ounces and is standing 20” tall. Bella is the daughter of Lance & Sloane Freeman.

Welcome, Bella!

Snow & More Snow! This newsletter is late because I could not get out of my drive way. I finally found someone who would clean my drive way off then I asked him how the streets were. I was told to stay off of them. People are getting stuck and not able to get out of the snow. Stay at Home! So I did for another 24 hrs. I came to work on Sat. and was overwhelmed and went home. Went to church on Sunday and to eat out and then Monday I readied for work and walked out to the van and by the time I reached my van I was not sure this was such a good idea. So I went back in. Talk about cabin fever. I am sure all of you can relate.

This picture was sent to me by Tess Anderson. The sky is so blue. Snow is so white and the beauty of it all is our trees and crops received a drink of moisture.

I thank God for our moisture!

In our lifetime does one get to ride an elephant at the circus? One of our very own, Florence Barber, was able to go to the Shrine Circus in Wichita. Florence went with the Anthony Community Care Center group. They went to the circus and like a small child, Florence was excited to get to go. While at the circus Florence was asked if she would like to ride an elephant. If you know Florence , she likes adventure. Of course she was not going to turn down a chance of a lifetime. When I went

to see Florence a few days later she was still smiling about the whole thing. She was laughing and telling her story. She told me the elephant was just a baby and when asked how far she rode the elephant her reply was “ Oh, just around the circle, you know the circle.” Way to go Florence! (I tried to get a photo of her adventure but at this printing I had not received it yet.)
