Acceptable Use Policies
O Acceptable Use Policy: (AUP) clearly
states what is and is not acceptable
behavior. It also lists the consequences
of unacceptable actions.
O This PowerPoint is an AUP.
O Failure to comply with any of the
technology rules will result in the loss of
all technology privileges.
Computer Rules for the Classroom
1. Students will behave in an appropriate manner when using technology
at all times.
2. Students will maintain privacy when working on assignments using
technology.
3. Students will use resources that are educational and approved at all
times.
4. Students will practice ethical behavior when using technology.
5. Students will share hands-on time when working in groups, or
individually, while using technology.
6. Students will incorporate their lessons with their use of technology.
7. Students will participate in surveys and tests that are based on their
abilities regarding technology.
8. Students will be courteous and helpful to each other while using
technology.
9. Students will abide by the rules or risk losing technology usage rights.
10. The educator will thoroughly educate students in the proper and
effective use of technology in the classroom.
Appropriate Behavior
O No profanities. They should not be
typed, said or searched for.
O No bullying (cyber or otherwise). This
behavior will not be tolerated.
O No access to unapproved sites. Any
site that is not approved must be
reviewed before access is granted.
O Ask permission if unsure of any site’s
validation or appropriateness.
Privacy
O Passwords are private. Do not share
your password or allow others to login
to your accounts without permission.
O Homework is personal. Do not let
others copy your work, that is
cheating.
O Do not give out your personal
information over the internet. It is
dangerous and irresponsible.
Educational Resources
O Websites that provide supporting
research for an assignment.
O Continued learning sites are allowed.
This includes sites with educational
games to be used during down time or
breaks.
O NO WIKIPEDIA. It is an unreliable source
due to the many contributors.
O Ask questions when unable to find a
supporting site to use for research.
Share Technology
O The computers are to be used equally
by all students.
O Those who cannot or will not share will
be removed from the computers.
O If working in groups, everyone should
control the device at some point
during the assignment.
O If working individually, timers will be
used to assure equal usage.
Incorporating Lessons
O Information and materials covered in
lessons will be the priority when using
computers.
O If no assignments are being done on
computers, students with classwork
can request the removal of those
using technology recreationally.
O Computer disputes will be addressed
by the educator and consequences
will be decided then.
Surveys and Tests
O Computer literacy is an important
factor in technology usage. Students
will be tested on their comprehension
to assist with beneficial usage.
O Surveys for improvement of usage will
be taken and advice will be taken
under consideration when planning
technology use.
O Surveys and tests are required for
computer use privileges.
Courteous and Helpful
O Students will assist each other in any
way they are able when asked.
O Inappropriate attitudes will result in
immediate removal from computers.
O This does not mean someone else can
do the work for another student.
O If an easier method of doing
something is found, please share with
the class.
Follow the Rules
O If the rules are not followed the
privileges will be revoked.
O If someone is breaking a rule an
anonymous report can be submitted
to the drop box file on the desktop.
O Complaints about a computer
program or website can also be
submitted to the drop box file.
Educator Responsibility
O As your teacher, I will do my best to
provide you with the means necessary
to use technology successfully.
O I will be open and receptive to new
methods and ideas.
O I will do my best to keep ahead of
technological advances in order to
assist students with the new uses they
will face in the future.
