Prinicpal’s Message Hot weather along with Track & Field events are sure signs that the end of the

learning year is approaching! It is pleasing to see how each student has put forth

their best efforts to accomplish personal goals and academic ones as well. A

highlight for the year – the grade eight graduation ceremony - is scheduled for

Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Oakview Terrace. Parents and family members

along with Aurora Grove PS staff will celebrate the accomplishments of the

graduating grade eight classes that evening. We are proud of the examples of

well-being and academic success demonstrated by each graduating student this

year.

Be sure to check the calendar for upcoming, year-end activities: the primary play

day, the talent show and the slide show which will be held the morning of the last

school day. On June 30th teachers and staff will engage in school planning

activities to review the impact of our instructional strategies and the approaches

we use to create a functional, healthy and safe environment for all students at

Aurora Grove PS.

Did you know... Mrs. Cresswell will retire from teaching this June 2016?

After 23 years of service, 15 of which were spent at Aurora Grove PS, Mrs.

Cresswell will transition to other pre-occupations. Best Wishes to you, Mrs.

Cresswell and to all students and their families for a safe and satisfying summer.

Message from our Trustee As the school year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for all that you

have done to help make this school year a successful one for our students.

We share a common goal - to give our young people every opportunity to reach

their full potential, and we all have a role to play in supporting that goal. However

you choose to get involved, your engagement and support make a difference. We

know that good schools become better schools when they are connected with

families.

Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our students, families, staff members and

community partners, we are creating a welcoming, caring and inclusive learning

environment that fosters student achievement and well-being.

As we move into summer, I encourage you to seek out opportunities to continue

and complement the learning that takes place throughout the school year. That

could mean taking a nature walk, visiting a museum or reading a book. Whatever

your plans are over the next few months, I hope you have a safe, relaxing and

enjoyable summer.

Learning & Teaching Are you MOVING? If you will be moving out of our area in the next 4 to 6 months, please let the office know of your intentions at your earliest convenience. We are well underway in planning for September 2016 and it is critical that we have accurate numbers at all stages of the process. We ask that families assist us with these preparations by informing the office (in writing) if you are moving out of the Aurora Grove Public School area. Please include the last day of attendance and the school your child(ren) will be attending. This will also facilitate in the transfer of your child’s records (Ontario Student Record - OSR). Thank you! Engagement, Environment, Equity & Inclusivity Appropriate Dress Notice Once the weather warms to more seasonable temperatures, students and parents are reminded about our school policy on appropriate dress. .It is important that students dress in neat, clean clothing appropriate for a school environment. I would love to hear from you! Lisa Brouckxon Teacher/Librarian

So Long….Farewell! I am very excited to share the news of my retirement on June 30th of this year. It is time for adventures, discoveries and experiences in other parts of my life. Before I go, I wanted to say “Thank You”, so here goes: To my colleagues….Thank you for inspiring me, challenging me and laughing with me along the way. I cannot imagine a finer group of educators than those who have served Aurora Grove in the past and in the present. I look forward to continuing our friendship in other times and places. And what will I do without “Fat Friday”! To the administrative and custodial staff…I always said that if you wanted to make your way successfully in a school, get to know the office staff and custodians. Thank you all for your guidance and support. To the parents…Thank you for partnering with me to guide your little ones through the maze of curriculum and school activities. I really could not have done it without your help. I know that you are well aware of the vital role that active parental participation plays in a child’s success in school. To my students, past and present….I will miss you the most! In your own individual ways you have taught me at least as much as I have taught you. You have shown me how to squeeze joy out of every moment of the day, how to persevere when things get tough and how to grow in knowledge and confidence. This Fall I am enrolled as a full time student at the Haliburton School of the Arts in the Photo Arts program. So you see, my learning continues. It will be very strange to be on the other side of the teacher desk but I am looking forward to the opportunity to immerse myself in something that I have developed a strong interest in over the past few years. I’ll be back to visit when I can. In the meantime, wish me luck! There’s a lot to look forward to. Sincerely, Susan Cresswell

Learn to Code, Code to Learn with SCRATCH https://scratch.mit.edu/https://scratch.mit.edu/ About Scratch With Scratch, you can program your own interactive stories, games, and animations — and share your creations with others in the online community. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century. Scratch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. It is provided free of charge.

• Scratch is designed especially for ages 8 to 16, but is used by people of all ages. Millions of people are creating Scratch projects in a wide variety of settings, including homes, schools, museums, libraries, and community centers.

The ability to code computer programs is an important part of literacy in today’s society. When people learn to code in Scratch, they learn important strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas. Not getting all the AGPS Etree emails??
