AUSTRALIAN 1931 DROPPED 1INDIAN OBVERSE DIE PENNY

Struck by the Melbourne Mint during the depression of the 1930's, this die pairing of an Indian Type 2 obverse (featuring 178 rim beads/denticles) and London type A reverse (174 rim beads) with misaligned final 1 in date occurred for a very short time, probably the first few days of the penny strikings in 1931.

Do not confuse this rare variety with the more common dropped 1 London Die which has the die pairing of Type 1 Obverse, London Type A (177 rim beads), final leg of N in OMN is aligned between beads on the obverse.

For the serious collector, this is one of the most challenging Australian Numismatic items to obtain - much scarcer than the Australian 1930 Penny (around 1500-2000 known to exist and sells for over $15,000.

Colonial Australia was a dangerous place, with roads and townships attracting lawless renegades known as bushrangers. Whether they were bold adventurers or frightening criminals, bushrangers have inspired Australia's folklore and indentity. With the 2019 Mintmark suite of uncirculated and proofs coins, the Royal Australian Mint acknowledges the Bold, the Bad and the Ugly of Australia's colonial past.

CHINESE WEDDING 1oz SILVERIn Chinese culture, crane motifs denote longevity, peace and harmony. A pair of cranes walking or flying together represent love, loyalty and a wish for a long marriage. Cherry blossoms are considered symbols of romance, devotion and enduring love.

The Perth Mint has struck a Tuvalu $1, 1oz 99.99% pure silver rectangularcoin depicting a pair of white and black cranes surrounded by cherry blossoms.

The coin is presented in an intricately designed presentation card including a pocket to hold money, representing a traditional Chinese red packet.

FIGURE EIGHT KOI FISH COIN

2oz 99.99% SILVER, CASED, MINTAGE 3888, FDC $218.00

Evoking Chinese culture and traditions with its unique shape and beautiful koi fish design, this stunning 2oz silver figure eight shaped coin is only the second of its kind ever struck by The Perth Mint.

The number eight is the luckiest number in Chinese culture thanks to it having similar pronunciation to 发, which means good fortune or to prosper. Uniquely symmetrical, when laid on its side the coin resembles the mathematical symbol for infinity – an important principle in feng shui used to denote everlasting wealth, happiness, love and abundance.

Shaped like a figure eight, the coin’s reverse features two koi fish swimming against the currents, and a lotus flower.

This commemorative proof coin celebrates the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s birth in 2019 while paying tribute to the historic 1855 Sydney Mint sovereign coin designed by Royal Mint Engraver Leonard Charles Wyon, which was the first coin to be produced at The Sydney Mint in 1855.

Under the authority of Queen Victoria, who was the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom and its

colonies from 1837 until her death in 1901, a new reverse design was developed to differentiate the Sydney Mint sovereigns from the Imperial coins.

In 1857 a bold new effigy of the Queen featuring a sprig of banksia in her hair was circulated and

subsequent historic Australian coins incorporated elements of the Imperial sovereign’s design.

Struck by The Perth Mint, this 22 carat gold Australian Proof Sovereign has a face value of $25 and weighs 7.99 grams. The reverse portrays St. Edward's crown, a laurel wreath and the word Australia with 'Perth Mint' above and 'Sovereign' below. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s birth in 2019, the coin also bears a ‘200’ privy mark.

Between 1948 and 1971, Australia's banknote issuing authorities used notes produced in separate printing runs to replace notes that were spoiled in the printing process. They were known as star notes because the last digit of the serial number of each replacement note was an asterisk (or star).

The first notes to be replaced in this way were Ten Shillings and One Pound with the Armitage/Macfarlane signature combination, printed in 1948, then in 1960 for the Five Pound. The practice was not used for the Ten Pound note.

For the initial six years of decimal currency, the practice was continued with notes produced in the special print runs identified by a serial number prefix commencing with the letter Z. The second letter identified the denomination - A for $1, F for $2, N for $5, S for $10 and X for $20 notes. The practice was stopped in 1972/3, well before the introduction of $50 and $100 notes.
