Position Overview

IRV provides strategic industrial relations policy and technical advice to Government and departments with a focus on fostering a framework based on consultation, cooperation and good faith bargaining. IRV engages with employers, employees and their unions to promote a positive industrial relations environment. IRV consists of the following for divisions:

Office of the Deputy Secretary

Public Sector Industrial Relations

Private Sector Industrial Relations

Wage Inspectorate Victoria

The summer intern would spend time in both the Public and Private Sector teams.

The Public Sector Industrial Relations team oversees enterprise bargaining across the Victorian public sector. It is responsible for implementing the Government's public sector industrial relations policies, assisting departments and agencies with industrial relations matters and enterprise bargaining and contributing to public sector employment legislative and policy initiatives.

The Private Sector Industrial Relations team provides expert advice and assistance on private sector industrial relations matters to government, supports government participation in the development and maintenance of the national industrial relations system and leads responses and submissions to major industrial relations reviews and inquiries. The team develops and monitors legislation on Victorian industrial relations matters, including long service leave, child employment, owner drivers and labour hire. It also provides secretariat support to industry councils in the building, transport and forestry sectors and to the equal

workplaces advisory council. The team monitors private sector industrial disputes and provides advice to the Minister on appropriate actions by Government in relation to them.

The Summer Intern would spend time in both the public and private sector teams. General roles and responsibilities would include:

Researching industrial relations matters

Reviewing enterprise agreement instruments to ensure compliance with government policy and legislation

Assisting with the preparation of industrial relations advice to department and agencies,

Preparing briefs for senior management and the Minister for Industrial Relations on industrial relations matters
