JANE OKLEYTARALGON, VICTelstra Countrywide: Staff ScholarshipJane is the Area General Manager for Telstra Country Wide South East VIC and has been in senior management roles in the last 13 years. Jane is passionate about leading people and continually improving her leadership skills to enrich the lives of others. Jane supports her community by representing a number of Boards and is an active member of a group who is determined to establish a committee for Gippsland. Jane is an accredited MBTR facilitator.

JAMES STEWARTALEXANDRA, VICDept of Sustainability & Environment VIC: Departmental ScholarshipJames coordinates forest and fire planning across NE Victoria. His responsibilities include managing roads and tracks, fire operations planning and coordination of silviculture and forest compliance activities. James holds a Bachelor of Education and worked in education before transferring to natural resource management. James maintains a strong involvement in education as school council president at Alexandra Secondary College.

BEN WATTSMOLONG, NSWAustralian Wool innovation: Wool Leader ScholarshipBen is the owner of Bralca Merinos, a sheep stud based in Central West NSW which produces superfine genetics for Australia’s Wool Industry. He is actively involved in the international sheep and wool industry as a director of the World Sheep and Wool Council and the Australian representative on the Board of the World Council of Sheep Breeders. Ben holds a Diploma in Agriculture and a Masters in Sustainable Agriculture.

TONY WOOLFEWARRAGUL, VIC Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation: Open scholarshipTony is employed as an Operator/Technician at Loy Yang B Power Station. Raised on a dairy farm, he obtained dual trade qualifications in Electrical and Instrumentation, Tony also has qualifications in Industrial Electronics, Power Plant Operations and is a Licensed Electrical Inspector. Tony is a Councillor with Baw Baw Shire, Vice President of the West Gippsland Healthcare Group and a Past President of Warragul Primary School Council.

JONAS WOOLFORDSTREAKY BAY, SAFisheries R&D Corp: Fisheries Leader ScholarshipJonas works in the family business Eyrewoolf Enterprises Pty. Ltd. diving for abalone (amongst other things) on the west coast of South Australia. Jonas is the Vice President of the Abalone Industry Association of SA, director of the Board of Abalone Management SA Ltd., and director of Wildcatch Fisheries SA. He also sits on the Aquatic Animal Health committee. Jonas holds an Advanced Diploma of Accounting.

JOHN WRIGHTALICE SPRINGS, NTDept of Health and Ageing: Rural Health ScholarshipJohn works with Central Australian Remote Health as Health Centre Manager. He is a member of the Royal College of Nursing Australia, Assoc Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Executives and a Board member of CRANA plus, the professional voice for all remote health workers. John holds a Masters Degree in Remote Health Practice and his focus is on the role of remote health services to sustain and make viable communities.

ANTHONY SHELLYBACCHUS MARCH, VICGenetics Australia: Leaders ScholarshipAnthony has worked for Genetics Australia Co-op Ltd (previously Victorian Artificial Breeders) for twenty years and is the retail business manager. Based in the Bacchus Marsh office, his roles have varied from farm hand, field sales, Artificial Insemination training, and National Sales Manager. Anthony is extremely passionate and committed to the success of the Dairy Industry, and particularly the success of dairy farmers.

SCOTT MCDOUALLMELBOURNE, VICElders: Elders ScholarshipScott is the Systems, Logistics, and Operations Manager for Elders Internationals Live Export division based in Melbourne. He has been the elected Chairman of the Victorian Livestock Exporters Association for the last two years. Scott has worked with Elders for over eight years, predominantly focused on livestock, feedlotting, and live export. He holds a BBus(Agr/Comm).

ANDREW MENSCHELYIBIBRA LAKE, WACooperative Bulk Handling: CBH ScholarshipAndrew is the Logistics Manager for the CBH Group. Andrew manages the Logistics Department that co-ordinates storage, transport and outturn of grain to the International and WA Markets, a complex business involving many modes of transport such as truck, train, container and ship. Andrew has worked for the CBH Group since Graduating from Curtin University with a Degree in Agribusiness in 2002.

NICK LAMBERTGRAFTON, NSWFisheries R&D Corp: Fisheries Leader ScholarshipNicholas is the General Manager of Australian Native Fish Pty Ltd. Having successfully pioneered the industrial production of silver perch, the company is now producing and selling domestically 200 tonnes per annum. The company has commenced an industrial development program for the long finned eel, a highly sought after product in Asia. Nicholas holds a Bachelors degree in Applied Science (Agriculture) and an MBA.

GEOFF CORNFORDBOWENVILLE, QLDAustralian Lot Feeders Assoc: Industry Leaders ScholarshipGeoff is actively involved in cattle welfare and health issues and until recently has been a board member of the Australian Lot Feeders Association. Geoff manages a 9,000 head feedlot and farming operation on the Darling Downs, Queensland. His interests include natural resource management and his local community.

CATHIE DONOHUESWANHILL, VICCentrelink: Departmental ScholarshipCathie is the Area Business Manager for Rural Services for Centrelink in West Victoria. She is responsible for a large network of Agents and Access Points along with processing teams. These teams progress claims for Drought Assistance including the recently announced Small Block Irrigators Exit Grant for Vic, Qld, SA and NSW She is a member of several committees within Centrelink.

TROY FISCHERWAYVILLE, SAGrape and Wine R&D Corp: Grape & Wine Leader ScholarshipTroy manages G&WRDC’s environment and sustainability program. Prior to this, Troy worked in the red meat and wool industries in research and management roles. Troy is a partner in his family’s farming business based at Wasleys, which includes a terminal sire ram breeding operation and cereal grain production. Troy holds a BA in Rural Science (Hons) and PhD in Genetics’.

FARRON FLETCHERDubbo, NSWAustralian Meat Processor Corp: Industry Leader ScholarshipFarron is the GM of Fletcher International Exports. FIE is focused on vertical integration with the Dubbo plant running the last fully integrated Scouring and Top making plant in Australia. FIE runs a freight and grain packing terminal for containerised products and owns sheep and farming properties at Lightning Ridge and Condobolin. Farron aims to assist the Meat Industry in becoming rural Australia’s preferred employer.

CHE COCKATOO COLLINSBirkinhead, SASANTOS: Santos Indigenous Leader ScholarshipChe was a professional footballer with the Essendon and Port Adelaide Football clubs. Che is now the Aboriginal Employment and Training Adviser with Santos. Previously he had an advisory role to the Premier of South Australia and was the Director of the Indigenous Sports Academy at Rostrevor College. Che helps Aboriginal communities reach their dreams by creating alliances and reaffirming cultural values.

CORRIE GOODWINHAWTHORN, VICDairy Australia: Dairy Leader ScholarshipCorrie has over 10 years experience in the management of quality and food safety in the dairy industry. She is currently the Manager, Operations Strategy and Policy, for Dairy Food Safety Victoria. Corrie’s serves on the Victorian Livestock Industry Consultative Committee, the Dairy Australia Technical Issues Reference Group and the National Animal Health and Welfare Reference Group for the dairy industry.

SCOTT GORRINGELOCKROSE, QLDTim Fairfax Family Foundation: Open ScholarshipScott is a Mithaka man (SWQ) with family links to Paakantyi (NWNSW), but Windorah is home. Scott is Director of Murrimatters Consulting and works as a learning facilitator for the Indigenous Education Leadership Institute. Scott’s current focus is Indigenous educational leadership challenges in remote, urban, and rural regions Scott holds a Masters of Rural Systems Management.

ELLENA HANNAHKATHERINE, NTDept of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry: Rural Women’s ScholarshipEllena works in grazing land management with the Dept of Regional Devt, Primary Industry Fisheries and Resources. Ellena has worked as an extension officer servicing pastoralists throughout northern Australia since completing a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree. Wherever she goes, Ellena contributes to community life by being involved with groups of both a professional and social nature.

DALLAS KINGST GEORGE, QLDCotton R&D Corp / Auscott: Cotton Leaders ScholarshipDallas is the Director of Western Rivers Agriculture Qld, which provides agronomic services for irrigation and dryland farmers in the lower Balonne region. Dallas has also worked with the Cotton Co-operative Research Centre to disseminate best practices in cotton farming. Dallas is motivated by the challenges faced in the cotton industry and has a strong belief in community participation and development.

DR ALEX KUTTAitkenvale, QLDCSIRO Sustainable Ecosystem: Departmental ScholarshipsAlex is a research scientist with CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems leading a team investigating biodiversity conservation in northern tropical savanna rangelands in partnership with mining industry, Universities, NRM groups, and government agencies. Alex has worked on scientific and threatened species advisory panels and as a wildlife ecologist /planner for 20 years. Alex holds a BA/ BSc (Hons) and a PhD in zoology.

JANE LOVELLDON, TASHorticulture Australia: Industry Leaders ScholarshipJane is Managing Director of TQA Australia. She is responsible for consulting to primary producers and businesses and the federal government. She manages a team of consultants and works with committees in food safety, quality assurance and environmental management. Jane holds a BSc, has an Arabian horse stud and is President of Tas ARABS.

DONNA LYNCHHYDEN, WAGrains R&D Corp: Grains Leader ScholarshipDonna is a Primary Producer of wheat, merino, and prime lambs in South Central WA. Her industry appointments include CBH Group Growers Advisory Council and WAMMCO International. Donna is passionate about the viability of rural and regional WA and is involved in the WA Liberal party representing rural and regional issues on its state and federal committees.

SUE MARTINQUAMBY BROOK, TASRural Industries Research & Devt Corp: Community Leaders ScholarshipSuzanne has worked as a rural veterinarian in the NT, SA, the Kimberley, Tasmania, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She has a particular interest in cattle medicine and production. Sue serves on the Tasmanian Division of the Australian Veterinary Assoc, is a member of the Australian Cattle Veterinarians and is a Board Member of the Tasmanian Skills Institute. Sue holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science.

KEELEN MAILMANAugathella, QLDDept of agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; Indigenous Scholarship Keelen is the manager of Mt Tabor Station which is owned by the Indigenous Land Council and is situated on her traditional country. She is a Native Title applicant and a member of the Bidjara Traditional Owners Group. Strongly committed and passionate about the protection and preservation of Bidjara culture, Keelen has worked with many organisations within the local region. Keelen was a Queensland-Australian finalist in 2007.

JULIE MELBOURNEBroome, WADept of Local Govt & Regional Devt WA: Jarnoowamy Mirindo Memorial Scholarship Julie is a lawyer working with Aboriginal organisations and communities in the legal recognition and protection of native title, negotiations and agreement-making and community development. Her interest is to build strong and sustainable governance structures for native title holders to participate in social and economic development. She holds a Bachelor of Laws.

JANE MILBURNTOOWONG, QLDRural Press Ltd: Open ScholarshipAs a media advisor and award-winning freelance writer, Jane Milburn has a proven record in communication and advocacy for rural and professional groups. She is currently media manager with AgForce Qld and has wide-ranging journalism experience, including ABC rural, newspapers, and as ministerial media advisor. Jane holds a BSc (Agric) is secretary of the Australian Council of Agricultural Journalists and past president of the Qld Rural Press Club.

MIKE MOONEYMILDURA, VICWoolworths Ltd: Woolworths Open ScholarshipAs a past and present member of many community boards and organisations, Mike seeks to help regional Australia overcome its many challenges. After being Area General Manager with Telstra Country Wide then a self employed consultant, Mike is now the Executive Manager of Mallee Sustainable Farming Inc, a farming systems research, development and extension organisation across the dryland Mallee of NSW, Victoria and SA.

ANNA MOULTONKununurra, WADept of Infrastructure Transport Local Govt &Regional Devt: Rural Women’s ScholarshipAnna is the Program Manager of the Ord Enhancement Scheme, a partnership between Miriuwung Gajerrong people and the State Govt of WA (Kimberley Devt Commission). The Scheme enables traditional owners to drive socio-economic change and improved service delivery. Anna is a founding manager of Warmun Art Centre. She is passionate about working towards social equity and systemic change. Anna holds a BA/LLB (Hons).

BROOKE RANKMOORE Alyangula NT Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation: Open scholarship Brooke is an ecologist with the Anindilaykawa Land Council working with indigenous rangers on threatened species on Groote Eylandt. She previously worked as Conservation Manager for a large pastoral company in the NT. She focused on sustainable production/development and conservation. Brooke holds a BSc and PhD, is a member of regional Fire and Weed committees and a councillor with the Ecological Society Australia.

CAROLINE RHODESDEAKIN, ACT Grains R&D Corp: Grains Leaders Scholarship

Caroline has extensive experience in the Australian grains industry in regulation and policy development across a range of portfolios. She is the Senior Manager of Wheat Exports Australia and has held roles with the Grains Council of Australia and the South Australian Farmers’ Federation. Caroline holds a BAgSc,, Master of Agribusiness and a Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors

GARY SALIBAALBURY, NSWDept of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry: CALD scholarshipGary is director of Strategic Journeys, a consulting company that assists people to enhance their understanding of how they perceive their business for today and tomorrow. Gary adopts a holistic approach using systems thinking, scenario planning and values assessment. He is a member of his local landcare group and bushfire brigade and a Visiting Fellow at ANU. He holds a BSc(Hons), PhD and DipEd.

PAUL SHEACOLAC, VICDept of Primary Industries VIC: Departmental ScholarshipPaul is the senior Fisheries officer at Colac. He is also the Leader of the Colac Workcentre, a role that requires leadership and co-ordination of three government departments co-located in the Colac State Public Offices. Paul is an executive officer in the Toast Masters Club of Colac. He holds an Assoc.Dip of Applied Science (Resource Mgt) and a Master of Environmental Management.

GEORGIE SOMERSET KINGAROY, QLD Meat & Livestock Australia: Meat Leader Scholarship

Georgie is a beef producer in Qld’s South Burnett. She has a background and training in agriculture, regional development, marketing, tourism, and journalism.She is passionate about developing human capacity in rural Australia and has a diploma in rural business management. She is a member of the National Rural Advisory Council and a Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors.
