How can the ASSH newsletter help you and your colleagues?Healthcare simulation in Australia is dispersed widely and we have limited opportunities to benefit from the simulation expertise that exists in isolated pockets around the country. The newsletter provides an opportunity for you to learn from your colleagues, but also help your colleagues, by submitting articles that share your experiences.

We welcome your contributions to the newsletter.

ASSH is in the process of securing funding to project manage the establishment of a directory of Australian Simulated Learning Programs (SLP’s) hosted on the HWA website and linked to the ASSH website.

Healthcare Simulation Professional Credentialing

ASSH Healthcare Simulation Professionals Credentialing Committee: Harry Owen, Jennifer Keast, Dylan Campher and Peter Watts

Aims: To provide a valid pathway to certification as a simulation

professional recognised by the industry, government and all other organisations related to healthcare education and training.

Uses a framework previously developed by SIAA/SA as a reference tool

Forum held at conference on Tuesday lunchtime.

ASSH Terms of Reference

ASSH is reviewing and updating the Terms of Reference to reflect the current situation. The ASSH Executive has agreed to the following change and will address other items in the TOR.

1. increase the number of ordinary members by two. This will mean the ASSH Executive Committee will comprise of 15 members

rather than the current 13 members. There will be 5 office bearers, 1 Simulation Australia representative and 9 members of good standing.

Terms of Reference changes need to be ratified by Simulation Australia Ltd.

Julian van Dijk represents ASSH on the Enhanced Medical Education Advisory Committee

Marino Festa – Chair of the Paediatric and Neonatal Special Interest Group (PaNSIG) organised a pre-congress symposium to coincide with the 6th World Congress of Paediatric Critical Care in Sydney in March 2011.

Katie Walker represented ASSH as the Co-Chair of the inaugural Asia Pacific Meeting in Simulation in Healthcare (APMSH) in Hong Kong – May 19 – 22, 2011

Brian Jolly represented ASSH at the Global Simulation Network in London – August 1-3, 2011
