The national flag of Austria The national flag of Austria ,

originally adopted in 1918, was momentarily banned during the period of the Second World War. The Austria Flag was again adopted after the ban in the year 1945. The Austrian Flag comprises of three equal bands of red, white and red respectively from top to bottom. The three bands in the Austria Flag are horizontally arranged. The red and white patterns on theAustria Flag have been a collective emblem for Austria for more than eight hundred years making it one of the oldest ensigns in the world. According to popular legend the red and white pattern on the Austria Flag is symbolic of the bloodstained white coat worn by the Duke of Austria during a gruesome battle.

Doing Business in Austria

Austria, with a population of 8.4 million, is a dynamic European Union member country offering export opportunities for U.S. companies of all sizes. For U.S. firms looking to expand in Southeast Europe, Austria offers attractive features as a regional headquarters location . Basically, Austria is a good export market for U.S. companies, with no significant trade barriers. Qualified Austrian agents and distributors can be found for nearly every kind of product. Given the size of the country, Austria represents a desirable, affluent pilot market for U.S.-made products in Europe. Because of Austria’s geographic location and history, many Austrian agents and distributors, in addition to the Austrian market, sell regionally, covering several markets in Central and Eastern Europe and in the Balkan countries.

Drinks -Austria is credited in

popular legend with introducing coffee to Europe after bags of coffee beans were left behind by the retreating Turkish army after the Battle of Vienna in 1683.  Coffee is served in a variety of styles, particularly in the Viennese cafés. An Austrian Mokka or kleiner Schwarzer is similar to espresso, but is extracted more slowly.

Italian styles such as cappuccino, espresso and caffè latte are also commonly served. Drinking coffee together is an important social activity in Austrian culture. This somewhat routine activity can be compared to the British afternoon tea tradition. It is also very common to go to a coffeehouse for dating.

Wine is principally cultivated in

the east of Austria.
