AUSTRalIA NEWZealand
Austria enjoys strong GDP growth
Exports are the predominant factor
Cruising with the Europeans:
Wednesday, 23 November 2011
Ever since its beginning in
2001, the annual end-of-year
event co-organised by various
European Chambers in
Sydney has grown in
popularity and become a
highlight of the social calendar
for many.
This year, the sunset cruise on the MV Sydney 2000 around the Emerald City‟s
magnificent harbour will take place on Wednesday, 23 November. For those of
you who feel like kicking on at the official after party, we are pleased to
announce a fabulous new venue for this year‟s “after-event”: When coming off
the boat at King Street Wharf, follow the crowd directly to the King Street
Brewhouse, ideally located in the exciting precinct of King Street Wharf,
overlooking Darling Harbour.
To register, please RSVP and process payment by 16 November using the
RSVP form attached to the email.
Date: Wednesday, 23 November 2011
Time: 5:30pm for 6pm departure; 8pm vessel return
Venue: King Street Wharf, Jetty No.1
Cost: $69 per person
We look forward to having you on board!
Driven by strong exports, increases in domestic demand and greater corporate
investment, Austria‟s GDP is set to experience real growth of 3% in 2011. This
makes Austria one of the most important growth centres within the Eurozone.
Employment in Austria is also growing robustly while wage growth remains
subdued, thus supporting Austria‟s competitiveness. The unemployment rate of
3.7% is the lowest in all EU countries.
Although Austrian products are often not visible to consumers - Austrian technical
products make up more than half of Austria‟s exports - Austrian companies are
amongst the best in the world, particularly in the fields of environmental and energy
engineering, infrastructure and transport technology as well as automation and
communication technology. Leaders in research and development, they offer
products and services which are characterised by cutting-edge innovation and
enjoy strong worldwide demand.
Austrian exports grew by more than 15% during the first eight months of 2011
mainly due to outstanding results in trade with the USA, all major Asian economies
as well as several major Eastern European economies.
While due to the expiry of vehicle supply contracts Austrian exports to Australia
remained at their 2010 level, exports to New Zealand grew almost 12% to
EUR 34 mio. during the first half of 2011. Austrian brands turning more and more
into household names, both in Australia and in New Zealand, are KTM
motorcycles, Palfinger cranes, which can often be seen mounted at the back of
trucks, Swarovski crystal products and Red Bull energy drinks.

NSP New Solar Pump:
Solar powered water well
pumping station
2 AustriaNewz 4 / 2011
Presenting Austrian Companies
NSP-New Solar Pump is an Austrian company specializing in technology which
makes use of renewable energy sources. Recently the company developed
highly efficient a solar water pumping station.
The NSP-pumping station is maintenance-free, saltwater-resistant and able to
pump water out of wells easily, efficiently, for free and up to a depth of more
than 150 metres. The "Solar Water Well Pumping Station" is an ideal tool for
well construction, specifically for companies (distribution of equipment,
construction of stations, water sales) as well as private households (portable
water supply and irrigation) who do
not want to be dependant on the
availability of electricity, but want to
adopt a future-orientated, but low-
cost approach.
NSP is currently seeking to enlarge
its sales network through distributors
with good contacts to consumers and
governments.

The Australian company Premier Marine is honoured to
welcome Frauscher, the premium Austrian boat brand,
into Australia, which was recently unveiled at the Sydney
International Boat Show at Darling Harbour.
Established in 1927 by Engelbert Frauscher, the 717GT (pictured) is based off
a 1930‟s pleasure craft that has been brought into the 21st century, with it’s
sharp and edgy lines.
Frauscher has won „The Best European Power Boat of the Year“ for 5 years
running and is renowned for their innovation and technology, not to mention
their euro-chic styling that is unique to the brand.
Making waves in the marine industry, Frauscher is the first boat builder world-
wide to develop a diesel-hybrid
engine option, much in the
trend of where car manufactu-
rers have been heading, to
offer a greener choice to
boating enthusiasts. Of course
they do offer their boats with
regular petrol as well as diesel
engines as standard.

Michelle Morgan ́s dream to make chocolate began on a trip to Central America
in 2004. After years of study and research in Europe and America, and
sourcing artisan equipment from around the world, Michelle‟s dream is now the
award-winning Emu Heights based chocolate company, Zokoko.
Zokoko is one of only a handful of companies in Australia to make their
chocolate from “bean to bar”. That is, they work directly with growers to import
the finest quality cacao beans and use vintage, artisan equipment and
traditional methods to roast, mix and mould the chocolate in small batches,
creating truly unique chocolate bars.
This quest for the highest quality has earned
Zokoko a swag of local and international awards
including The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food
Guide 2012 Favourite Chocolate, a gold medal in
the esteemed Best Dark Chocolate category at the
Chicago Luxury Chocolate Salon Awards, silver and bronze medals at the
Academy of Chocolate Awards in London and a gold medal at the Sydney
Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show 2011.
To continue to deliver world class chocolate,
Zokoko recently welcomed Austrian pastry chef and
chocolate artist Gerhard Petzl to the team. A multi
award-winning artist, Gerhard specialises in choco-
late sculptures, chocolate paintings and chocolate
art. His unique approach to hand-carving chocolate
sculptures has earned him international recognition
including a gold medal at the Culinary Olympics in
Berlin. To view more of Gerhard‟s work please visit

The year is almost over and soon
the first Christmas markets for
2011 will be opening their gates in
Austria. The time from late
November to the end of the year
holds a very special meaning: Main
squares in Austria‟s cities and
towns will be transformed into
magical Christmas markets, where
the spicy scent of cinnamon,
cloves and roasted chestnuts fills the air, children sing Christmas carols, and
traditional handicrafts are sold at beautifully decorated market stalls.
From 12 November to 24 December, Vienna‟s city hall is transformed into a
Christmas wonderland. The facade of the City Hall is turned into a giant advent
calendar, and a 90-foot Christmas tree is prominently displayed in the centre of
the square, while the huge old trees in the neighbouring Rathauspark also
twinkle with festive lights. Christmas tree decorations, wooden toys, ginger-
bread hearts, roast chestnuts, baked potatoes, candied fruits and aromatic
berry laden punch are on sale at some 150 stalls. Inside City Hall, children can
craft their own Christmas gifts, or bake cookies and vanilla crescents.
Under a blanket of snow, Salzburg is looking even more romantic than usual.
The merry bustle of the Salzburg Christmas market around the venerable
Cathedral of Salzburg touches all. Salzburg is not only home of the renowned
Salzburg Advent Singing, but also of the world‟s most famous Christmas carol.
“Silent Night, Holy Night” was composed in 1818 as a church song in the parish
of Oberndorf to be performed at the Christmas mass then and forever more.
In the western reaches of Austria, Innsbruck‟s “Christkindlmarkt” takes place
directly in front of the city‟s landmark “Golden Roof”. Surrounded by the
mountains and beautifully preserved medieval facades, the authentic
Christmas market offers traditional Christmas ornaments, handicrafts and other
winter treats. Traditional dishes such as “Kiachln” and a cup of Glühwein
(mulled wine) will keep you warm whilst mingling with the locals.
Visit Austria's Christmas markets, try some Glühwein and enjoy the spirit of
Christmas! For more information visit www.austria.info/au or call the Austrian
National Tourist Office on +61 2 9299 3621.
