At five orsquo clock on the dot Injiarrives huffing and puffing likean old school bus Inji is afriendly dog with eyes the colourof chocolate and a tail that neverstops wagging

Together Tooka Poi and Injiwalk heads bent scanning thegleaming road the tufts of grassand moss-covered rocks forinteresting things to collect Theirfavourite thing to collect areseeds
Tooka and Poi collect shiny redseeds that look like ladybirdsspiky burrs that stick to theirclothes and the giant bean-shaped pods of the copper podtree

The pods make a delightful tshh-tsh-tshh sound when Tooka andPoi shake it about Poi loves to make up funny songs to go with theseed music

ldquoInji is the best of dogsShe likes big flowers and littlefrogsAnd birds and seeds and antsand snailsBut best of all she loves her tailrdquo
Over and over she sings thesesongs making Tooka laugh andInji bark happily

Tooka Poi and Inji are sitting bythe tamarind tree Tookarsquosfavourite seeds are the pudgypods from around this tree
He loves to suck on its sour fleshuntil he gets to the shiny brownseeds inside It makes Tookarsquosface scrunch up in funny waysand the hair on the back of hisneck stands up

Suddenly they hear a smallsqueaky voice say ldquoHelllloooooTooka and Poi look at each otherpuzzled They canrsquot see anybody ldquoUp here Up hererdquo they hearthe voice say againTooka and Poi look up and downand all around but there isnrsquot aperson in sight

ldquoItrsquos me Pacha Irsquom the tamarindtreerdquo Inji barks loudly and wagsher tail faster than normal Phat-phat-phat it goes back and forth
ldquoWhy hello Injirdquo Pacha the Treesays ldquoI havenrsquot seen you indaysrdquo Tooka and Poi becomestill as statues Their eyes widenand their mouths freeze in bigO shapes
Finally Poi smiles shyly and saysldquoHello Pacha the Tamarind TreeItrsquos nice to meet you Irsquom PoirdquoThen she gives the tree a bighug

Berries apples bananas watermelon and jackfruit mdash all fruitshave seeds in them Some seeds we cannot eat like that of themango Others like the jackfruit are used to make curries afterthey are soaked in water
