ABSTRACTThis is the fifth book in a five-book physical

science series on simple machines. The books are designed forSpanish-speaking junior high school students. This volume explainsthe principles and some of the uses of inclined planes, as theyappear in simple machines, by suggesting experiments and posingquestions concerning drawings in the book which illustrate theprinciples. Answers to the questions are provided in the book; anevaluation exam i s also included. For other books in the series, seeFL 002 897, FL 002 898, FL 002 899, and FL 002 900. (VM)

FOREWORD

The National Consortia for Bilingual Educationis a special E.S.E.A. Title VII project funded bythe U.S. Office of Education through the Fort WorthIndependent School District. The mission of theConsortia is fourfold:

To identify, package, and field testmaterials to meet the unique needs ofbilingual education programs throughoutthe nation.

. To provide information services concerningeffective methods for improving bilingualand bicultural learning achievement andself concept.

To provide information relative to testing,tests, test norms,test procedures and testutility.

. To provide continuous information concerningthe needs of learners, educators, and thecommunity.

During its first year of operation (1970-71)the Consortia conducted an extensive assessmentof the materials needs of the Title VII bilingualeducation programs (see Report of Survey Findings:Assessment of Needs of Bilingual Education Programs,National Consortia fdr Bilingual Education, June,1971). From this assessment came a determinationof the languages, grade levels and subject areas inwhich materials are most widely needed. A firststep in filling these high priority needs is thecurrent effort to 1) identify needed materials thathave been developed by bilingual projects, universi-ties, etc., and 2) reproduce and disseminate thesematerials to other bilingual education programs.

The dissemination of this Maquinas simplesphysical science series is a part of this effort.Your comments and suggestions regarding this productwill be welcomed.
