autobiographical essay

Tanya Marchun May 3, 2010 Autobiographical Essay Even from a young age, I have always enjoyed writing; however, it was never in the formal sense of writing, very freestyle and simple where I didn’t really have to follow the correct rules of grammar. But as time passed I learned a lot about how to write in a formal manner. In high school I found that research papers were interesting to write, I have also found that to hold true in college. Throughout my high school and college years I have spent a few years being involved with the newspaper and magazine. However, in high school, I did write an important research paper that was about my Polish grandmother and her survival of the Nazi concentration camps. She was in a smaller camp but still endured many terrible things. I am an artistic person and I found that having that background, I have always been drawn towards my creative side in any endeavor that I undertake. In high school I worked as a reporter for the newspaper, but my passion was more in the designing of the newspaper and the yearbook. That has also followed me in college working for The Independent as the Design Editor. I have found through my 268 Reading/Writing Text class that I enjoy writing deconstructive papers and essays. I have also found through my college courses that I do not particularly enjoy journalistic writing. In News Media Writing, I wrote a story about the effects of caffeine on the body if too much is consumed. The entire style of writing was difficult for me to enjoy. I like how short and concise the articles are and can be but I found that it was not the type of writing that I particularly like. I suppose if I had spent more time as a journalist I could enjoy it, but only doing it for a semester did not peak my interest. As an artist, the detailed writing has always been more interesting. Like what was read in class from In Cold Blood. The detailed and intricate writing is interesting because it shapes images that can easily come to mind and can be remembered because of the specific details. This type of writing is what I enjoy to read. I have tried my hand at attempting to write like that, but have found that it is much more difficult than what I expected. As the cliché goes, “practice makes perfect.” Throughout high school and college, I have found that my writing has developed more into the research writing. I have not taken creative writing classes or anything of the type; however, I do like creative writing. Before declaring my communication major, my intention was the writing option. Most of the work that I have recently done has been for research, in my younger years I used to write my own poetry and stories. It has been many years since I have done that. I enjoy writing that allows for creativity from the writer. Stiff research papers are what’s necessary right now but it is important to experience the different types of writing styles there are available.

Even  from  a  young  age,  I  have  always  enjoyed  writing;  however,  it  was  never  in  the  formal  sense  of  writing,  very  freestyle  and  simple  where  I  didn’t  really  have  to  follow  the  correct  rules  of  grammar.

But  as  time  passed  I  learned  a  lot  about  how  to  write  in  a  formal  manner.    In  high  school  I  found  that  research  papers  were  interesting  to  write,  I  have  also  found  that  to  hold  true  in  college.

Throughout  my  high  school  and  college  years  I  have  spent  a  few  years  being  involved  with  the

newspaper  and  magazine.    However,  in  high  school,  I  did  write  an  important  research  paper  that  was  about  my  Polish  grandmother  and  her  survival  of  the  Nazi  concentration  camps.    She  was  in  a  smaller  camp  but  still  endured  many  terrible  things.
