Sourcefilesandmapfiles
Onemapfilecanusemultiplesources.Forexample,youmightattachaDWGfiletoyourmapfile,queryinoneortwoofitslayers,andaddthemasDisplayManagerlayers.Then,youmightconnecttoaSHPfilethatbecomesanotherlayerinyourdisplaymap,oraddfeaturesfromageospatialdatabase.Themapfileremembersalltheconnectionsandwhichobjectsyou’veaddedtothemapfile.
Therelationshipbetweenthesourcesandthemapfileisdynamic.Ifthedatainthesourcefilechanges,thosechangesareupdatedinyourmapfile.Whenyouchangetheobjectsinyourmapfile,youcansavethosechangesbacktotheiroriginalsources.
Fordrawingobjects,youcanlockthesourcedrawingssonooneelsecanusethem,andyoucanusesavesetoptionstocontrolwhetheryourchangesaresavedbacktotheoriginaldrawingsoraffectthecurrentmaponly.
Forgeospatialfeatures,youcansetanoptiontosavechangestotheoriginalsourceautomatically,oryoucanworkofflineandupdatethefeaturesourcewhenyoufinishediting.Checkoutafeaturetolockitforotherusers(ifthefeaturesourcesupportsthis)andcheckitbackintomakeitavailableagain.
