AUTOMATED RIG CONTROLS
MEETING TOMORROW’S CHALLENGES TODAY
Tesco is commited to delivering exceptional products and
aftermarket support throughout the life cycle of your equipment.
Available for both new and existing Tesco Top Drives, Automated
Rig Controls (ARC) is a technologically advanced, software-
based platform designed to enhance and optimize the drilling
process. ARC takes input from drilling engineers, drillers,
directional drillers and live rig data to accurately model drill-
string characteristics and adjusts top drive parameters in real
time. Data ow between ARC components and the rig enables an
optimization of well pro le, rate of penetration (ROP) and bit life.
By implementing ARCFit™, “Reactive” maintenance is a thing of
the past. It enables rig personnel to predict maintenance and
service of drilling equipment to reduce NPT.
New Tesco Electric Top Drives can now be delivered “ARC-
Ready” upon request, equipped from the factory with the features
necessary to run Tesco’s drilling optimization suite of products.
Components include a Top Drive mounted Remote I/O, a VFD
PLC panel, an ARC-Ready Driller’s Panel and an updated Service
Loop. For retro t Electric Top Drives, a hardware kit installation
and integration will be required to ensure full ARC functionality.
No matter your Top Drive, options for user interface includes a
choice of Tesco-supplied touchscreens or the ability to supply
your own. In order to remain connected to back of ce drilling
support staff and to have data available globally, customers may
choose a Tesco-supplied satellite or connect the ARC system into
their own internet connection.
Once the hardware is installed, customers have access to the
ARC suite of drilling optimization products with a subscription.
Key Features & Bene ts: Mitigation of drill string stick-slip anomalies through auto-
tuning, resulting in increased ROP and extended bit life Automated directional control system helps get weight to bit on

optimum operation of critical equipment

ARC customers also gain access to an exclusive web portal
“Tescomation.” This platform provides the viewer full access
to all of the data collected through any of their equipment
running Tesco software. Tescomation provides customers
with insight into the status and location of equipment.
Tescomation also contains helpful features like the automatic
alert system which sends a noti cation when equipment has
exceeded a safe level of operation.
Tesco’s ARCFit helps track equipment maintenance and predicts future events.
TESCOMATION™
ARCFit is Tesco’s solution for ensuring rig operations keep
running smoothly by constantly monitoring critical components.
ARCFit uses a sophisticated system of sensors, communication
infrastructure and real-time monitoring support to keep
equipment running. The system monitors pressures, uid
ows, temperatures, shock and vibration, which allows for the
prediction of critical system failures by analyzing real-time and
historical data. Depending on the condition or the parameter,
real-time alerts can report when parameters have exceeded set
limits. Sensor only packages are available to integrate into an
existing asset managment tracking system.
ARCFit software provides a resource for both on and off-site
staff to view the current status of their equipment in real-time,
view equipment location and perform preventative maintenance
by recording and reporting maintenance and service events.
Having historical data available also aids in any troubleshooting
that may occur, thereby reducing NPT.

Tesco’s ARCSlide maximizes your ROP during directional drilling operations.
The ability to drill long reach horizontal wells has been partially
achieved by reducing the friction caused by the drill pipe lying
at in the wellbore and maintaining weight on bit by oscillating
or rocking the drill pipe. In traditional methods to manual
oscillate while drilling, the driller must mark the pipe and
count the number of pipe rotations that have gone into the
drill string to know when to change the direction of the pipe’s
rotation. Tesco’s ARCSlide system provides an automated
solution to oscillate the pipe. The ARCSlide software utilizes
intelligent control algorithms to automate drill string rotation,
resulting in a reduction of wellbore/drill pipe friction and
allowing for increased weight on bit and faster ROP.
When used with a mud motor, ARCSlide eliminates the need
for expensive rotary steerable technologies.
Horizontal and directional wells are only successful if the drill
bit stays on target throughout the entire wellbore. Traditional
methods of adjusting the tool face incrementally until the
desired outcome is obtained can be time consuming and
challenging. Tesco’s solution automates this process with the
ARCGuide tool face control system. Once the well plan has
been loaded into the ARC system, the ARCGuide calculates
the required top drive movement to correctly affect downhole
tool position to optimize the wellbore construction. Manual
tool face control can also be used when the driller wants to
control top drive operations.
Tesco’s ARCGuide can work independently; or when
combined with Tesco’s ARCSlide system it can automatically
correct the tool face while in oscillation mode. These systems
working together reduce the need for driller interaction and
increase drilling ef ciency by minimizing course corrections.

ARCTork™Tesco’s ARCTork maximizes your ROP, plus it lengthens the life of your bit and BHA tools.
Drill string anomalies such as stick-slip present challenges in
the drilling process that can lead to equipment damage and
reduce ROP.
When stick-slip occurs in drilling, the bit slows down or even
stalls on bottom intermittently as the bit “sticks and slips,”
resulting in signi cant torsional vibration. The result of this
condition causes severe stress on downhole tools, damage to
drill pipe connections, decreased ROP, decreased bit life and
severe wear on top-side drilling equipment.
Tesco’s ARCTork system dramatically dampens vibrations
by mitigating stick-slip while drilling and reaming to improve
rotary drilling ef ciency. The reduction of vibrations on the
downhole equipment extends the life of the bit and BHA,
resulting in fewer trips out of the wellbore and lower equipment
costs. By diminishing the effects of stick-slip, operators can
increase ROP, saving time in the entire drilling operation.
