General: The body for an ACV is a Globe 13112A-22 Series valve, hydraulically operated by a diaphragm assembly (the only moveable part). The body is made up of three major components:

MACK SPECIAL PURPOSE TRIMS MACK ACV valves are available with special trims for critical service applications.

Existing Mack ACV’s can be retrofitted with alternative trims without removing the valve from the line.

‘V’ PORT TRIM

Mack Valves ‘V’ port trim is a precision engineering trim designed to alter the ratio of flow to valve lift. The effect of this is to give greater control particularly at the low end thus enabling the valve to control over a much wider flow range and in certain cases eliminating the requirement for a second smaller valve installed in a by-pass application to cater for low flow conditions.

ANTI-CAVITATION TRIM

Mack Valves anti-cavitation trim is designed for use where the valve is operating within the cavitation zone (refer cavitation chart). Valves working in the cavitation zone are susceptible to severe damage, excessive noise and vibration. Mack Valves anti-cavitation trim consists of a pair of high precision double sliding cages manufactured in Grade 316 stainless steel with proportioned orifices to enable a high degree of flow control. These cages control the point at which the cavitation recovery occurs and allow it to dissipate harmlessly.

MACK PRESSURE SUSTAINING & CHECK VALVE

TYPICAL FUNCTION & APPLICATION

Maintains a constant backpressure by relieving excess pressure downstream.

Positively prevents return flow when pressure reverses.

The valve modulates to maintain a constant inlet pressure.

If the pressure reverses, the valve closes.

Automatic operation assures pressure setting can be changed easily.

Prevents excess demands in the lower zone from drawing down the pressure in the upper zone below the valve set point.

Prevent over-pumping and pump cavitation due to excessive downstream demands causing an

unacceptable low-pressure zone at the outlet point of pump.

MACK PUMP CONTROL VALVE

The pump starts against a closed valve.

Regulates both the opening and closing rate.

The valve begins to open slowly, gradually increasing line pressure to full pumping head.

Self-cleaning strainers always ensure that the pilot control is always kept clean.

Prevents reverse flow regardless of solenoid or diaphragm assembly position.

13112A-37 Deep Well Pump Type

Eliminate pipeline surges caused by the starting and stopping of deep well pumps.

The pump is started and stopped with the valve in the open position.

The pilot control system includes a limit switch assembly, which acts as an electrical control between the valve and the pump.

Features

Valve does not need an outside pressure supply and relies on line pressure for operation.

The rate of opening and closing can be adjusted separately.

Solenoid valves have manual override.

Typical Function

The valve will remain wide open when the inlet pressure is greater than the outlet pressure.

When a reversal of pressure occurs, control tubing from the outlet side conveys pressure to the top of the diaphragm, forcing the valve to close.

Optional opening and closing speed controls on the pilot tubing assist in surge prevention.

Valve Selection Select a valve of a size suitable for the expected flow

and required pressure loss. Incorrect sizing of valves

can produce problems. Before selecting a valve,

consider initial pressure, reduced pressure, and

maximum and minimum flow rates.

Excess velocities considerably shorten the life of any

valve.

Stainless steel trim should be specified if high velocities

are expected. If inlet and outlet pressures on cavitation

chart are within the cavitation zone, valve requires the

use of Mack Valves anti-cavitation trim.

Typical Function & Application

The Pilot Control Valve senses the downstream pressure in the main valve and allows flow to occur when the downstream pressure is lower than the spring setting on the pilot valve.

When the downstream pressure is higher than the spring setting on the Pilot Control Valve, both the pilot control

and main valve close.

The Pilot Control Valve reduces pressure from main and keeps pressure constant, regardless of intermittent demand.

The 13112A-18 Valve maintains an accurate downstream pressure regardless of fluctuations in the inlet

pressure of the valve.

Typical Function & Application

The valve maintains an accurate downstream pressure regardless of fluctuating demand or variations in inlet pressure.

The valves prevents a reverse flow through the

main valve should the downstream pressure exceed the upstream pressure.

The valve positively prevents a backflow

occurring should the down stream pressure increase above the set point.

The valve closes slowly on pump shutdown.

Careful selection of the size of the valve is

paramount as excessive velocities considerably shorten the life of any valve. Stainless steel trim if high velocities are expected.

MACK FLOAT CONTROL VALVE

Typical Function & Application

The Mack 407 Series Float Control Pilot Valve consists of a multi port rotary valve connected to a float, which travels vertically on a float rod. Adjustable stops are located on the float rod.

The main valve remains closed until the

float reaches the lower stop, which positions the rotary valve to open the main valve.

The level in the reservoir can be allowed to

drop to any desired point from .1 below top water level to 4 metres below TWL.

Line pressure must be minimum 7 metres

head for correct positive operation.

Typical Function & Application

The Mack 13112A-25 float valve modulates to keep a reservoir full whilst draw off from the reservoir is approximate to usage.

Line pressure must be a minimum of 35 kPa at the valve plus pressure equivalent to

the float height for effective operation.

The float control is available in 316 stainless steel for use for water with a high saline or cyanide content.

MACK STANDARD ALTITUDE VALVE

OPERATION ♦ Automatically controls the height of the top

water level with a one-way or two-way flow through the main valve.

♦ Designed to control the high water level in

reservoirs. ♦ The action of a three-way diaphragm

actuated pilot valve opens the main valve to allow the reservoir to fill or close it when the reservoir water level reaches the top water level. The valves are non-throttling and remain fully open until the reservoir reaches full capacity.

Additional Special Features

Back pressure (sustaining) feature Retains a minimum pressure in the supply

line and fills the reservoir only when the designated pressure is exceeded.

Rate of flow control Limits flow into the reservoir to a

predetermined volume.

The Mack 401 is an all bronze or stainless steel diaphragm operated check valve. It is extremely sensitive to change in fluid flow velocity and responds instantaneously to flow reversals. It operates as a pilot control on the control valve.

By rotating the cover 90º it may also be used as a small auxiliary valve. If pressure is supplied to the lid,

MACK REMOTE SENSING PRESSURE REDUCING CONTROL

Typical Function & Application

The 410 pressure reducing valve automatically reduces a higher inlet pressure to a lower outlet pressure.

It is a direct acting, spring loaded, diaphragm type valve that

operates hydraulically or pneumatically, and is designed to sense pressure from a remote point.

As a pilot control it will cause the main valve to hold a

relatively constant down stream pressure at the remote sensing point.

Spring Setting Range: 50 – 500 kPa Spring part no. 1935-0H3-062 501 – 1300 kPa Spring part no. 1935-0K3-062 1301 – 2100 kPa Spring part no. 7018-026-062

Adjustment Procedure Pressure adjustment is made by turning the adjustment screw to vary the spring pressure on the diaphragm. The greater the compression on the spring, the higher the pressure setting.

1. Turn the adjustable screw clockwise to increase downstream pressure.

2. Turn the adjustment screw anti-clockwise to

decrease downstream pressure. When pressure adjustment is completed, tighten lock nut on adjustment screw and replace cap.

MACK PRESSURE RELIEF CONTROL

Adjustment Pressure adjustment is made by turning the adjusting screws to vary spring pressure on the diaphragm. The greater the spring compression, the higher the pressure at which the valve opens. Turn the adjusting screw clockwise to raise the pressure relief setting. The adjusting screw is protected by a bronze housing, which is drilled to accommodate a lead-seal wire. The pressure relief control valve can be adjusted to provide a relief setting at any point within the range stamped on the nameplate.

Installation Install as shown in look up diagram of complete valve assembly; be sure to connect control tubing as shown. This control may be installed in any position. Allow sufficient room to make pressure-setting adjustments when installation is complete.

Disassembly Disassembly of the valve requires no special tools. The control does not need to be removed from the line. Back out adjustment screw to remove spring tension before removing cover.

Inspection Inspect valve disc for scoring, or embedded foreign particles. Inspect diaphragm for excessive wear and other damage. Check all parts for damage, corrosion, excessive wear and minimal deposits.

Repair &Replacement Replace all parts, which are damaged. When ordering replacement parts, be sure to specify catalogue number, and all nameplate data.

Reassembly Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly; no special tools or jigs required.
