To satisfy Department of Transport Marine Notice 16/1985 which states “Owners and Masters should be aware of the STCW Convention that if an automatic radar plotting aid is fitted, the Master and Officers in charge of a navigational watch are required to be properly trained in its use and fully aware of its capabilities and limitations.” To satisfy IMO Resolution A.482(xii) which recommends “Officers in charge of a navigational watch on ships fitted with automatic radar plotting aids (ARPA) to be trained in the proper use of such equipment”. Content On completion of the course, participants should demonstrate knowledge of: The principle types of ARPA systems and their display characteristics The possible risks of over-reliance on ARPA The IMO performance standards for ARPA Setting up and maintaining ARPA displays ARPA operational alarms and self testing procedures Factors effecting systems performance and accuracy Tracking capabilities and ARPA limitations Processing displays Raster scan displays ARPA electronic navigation information, e.g. navlines, maps, latest developments in ARPA displays Course Approval This course is AMSA approved. Assessment Strategy A range of methods is suggested for measuring progress towards and achievement of learning outcomes in this module.

Knowledge-based criteria will be satisfied through written or oral questioning relating to practical assignments.

Assessment will be undertaken off-the-job, however, where possible the environment will simulate a real work place situation.

Certificate

An AMSA approved “Automatic Radar Plotting Aids” Certificate will be issued by AMC to participants who satisfactorily complete the course and provide documentary evidence to satisfy the course pre-requisite.

If you do not hold the required pre-requisites, you will be issued with an AMC Statement of Results.

AMC Search markets and administers short courses on behalf of AMC which retains academic control of all courses. AMC’s mandatory short courses meet the requirements of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and comply with the International Maritime Organisation’s STCW78 Code as amended. AMC Search short courses do not qualify participants for the issue of Units of Competency under the Maritime Training Package. Should further training be undertaken within the Maritime Training Package, the AMSA approved short course Certificate may not be accepted for the purpose of Recognition of Prior Learning.

Safety Information Course participants are requested to note the following safety information: Enclosed footwear must be worn at all times. The AMC Occupational Health & Safety requirements will be adhered to throughout the course. Government regulations prohibit smoking in classrooms or within 10 metres of buildings.

Terms 1. To secure your enrolment, payment of 50% of the course fee is required. Cancellations up to

15 working days prior to the scheduled date will be accepted without penalty. Cancellations less than 15 working days will be subject to 100% cancellation fee.

2. AMC Search reserves the right to cancel the course if insufficient registrations have been received by seven days from commencement of course. Any fees paid for cancelled courses will be refunded in full.
