When Vetri Speaciali needed a new batch

plant, they contacted Zippe, with more than

95 years of experience in the glass industry.

Zippe designed, built and commissioned Vetri

Speciali’s batch plant, which has a furnace

producing more than 150 tonnes of glass a day.

W ith a team of 200 employees, ZIPPE provides expertise and

capabilities to provide batch and cullet systems of any magnitude. ZIPPE has been a solution pro-vider for the glass industry for more than 95 years and auto-mation expert for more than 35 years, no matter if new plants or reconstructions, moderniza-tion of existing plants are car-ried out. Almost 45 of ZIPPE’s employees create state-of-the art control technology as a key part of the optimal operation of a batch plant.

Vetri Speciali S.p.A. is an internationally leading company in the production and commer-cialization of hollow glass con-tainers in the special glass sector. For their new batch plant with a furnace producing more than 150 t/day, they contacted ZIPPE Industrieanlagen GmbH from Wertheim, Germany.

scraping conveyor and glass level controller.

Having been a Siemens Solution partner for a long time, ZIPPE has experience in numer-ous electrical control systems. Regardless of whether the cus-tomer decides for a process con-trol system PCS7 or a SCADA solution on WinCC basis or TIA-portal – ZIPPE always has the right solution for its customers.

For Vetri Speciali, ZIPPE was entrusted with the order to exe-cute the electrical control system with the latest PLC-generation system from Siemens (S7-1500).

ToTally InTegraTed auTomaTIon

It is here that the Siemens TIA-portal (Totally Integrated Automation) which is one of the most modern engineering tools on the market, finds its appli-cation. This engineering tool directly connects automation technology and SCADA system.

This new technology of the plant control system based on the TIA-portal comprises most modern operating concepts and highest system performance.

ability and allow operations of the batch plant, silo feeding and cullet return system from the furnace control room. Besides the PC based control stations, local monitoring of the cullet plant is possible by means of a touch panel (comfort panel TP700) which is also part of the TIA-portal.

neW WeIghIng IndIcaTorsAs a key component of the

weighing system, newly devel-oped weighing indicators Z-WI-102 were installed. These weigh-ing indicators were developed by ZIPPE especially for the glass industry. They transmit the weight values of the raw materi-als, cullet weighing systems as

well as mixer and check scales to the central control system. The precise electrical activation of the dosing aggregates enables to obtain dosing precision from up to +/- 1g.

Sixteen continuous filling level sensors (Siemens Sitrans LR560) determine the filling level of the silos. The analog measurement signal is analyzed by the PLC control system and visualized on the SCADA-system.

ZIPPE had been a contract partner in this project and besides the mechanical construction and commissioning, was also respon-sible for the delivery of the elec-trical control system, including electrical commissioning and start-up.

The plant was put into opera-tion, on schedule, at the beginning of November 2016. Production had been running trouble-free from the start and the customer is satisfied with the performance of the new plant. �
