Automobile Club ROADMAP 2015-16 1st Semester This document is a brief roadmap of what I expect should be done this year, under the automobile club, IITJ. I hope that this will contribute to the welfare of the club. It also contains some of my personal opinions regarding the activities conducted during my first year. 22-26 July (Orientation week): RC Solar Car – This event, I feel, was too simple for collegians, and hence I would like it to be conducted during the orientation, so that freshers get the importance of chassis design. 31 July-2 August: Brief introduction of the club, breakthroughs (e.g. participation in Efficycle, current Baja team, etc.) and overview of a typical automobile and its parts, a casual Car identification quiz. 7-9 August: Overview and display of the ongoing Baja project to fuel motivation amongst the freshers and for others, to see what we have done so far.

Automobile ClubROADMAP 2015-16

1st Semester

This document is a brief roadmap of what I expect should be done this year, under the automobile club, IITJ.

Here onwards, there should be around one or two lectures a month for the first semester on various parts of the car, especially types of engines and transmissions explained in detail.

August end: Organize a general automobile quiz.

18-20 September: Introduction to Solidworks – Why is CAD used so much in the industry in the current generation, what are the benefits of using solidworks, intro to interface and basic tools.Last academic year, we lost track of it, so this year, we must have regular fortnightly solidworks sessions with some small task to do in between. Many students in our batch too want to learn solidworks, as they had missed the sessions last time. Hence, these sessions would go quite fruitful.

16-18 October: EE students could be introduced to some electronic components, e.g. ABS, EBD and other ECUs which are increasingly being used in automobiles. This could be done to keep the interest of non-mechanical guys into the club.

The coming days should focus mainly on solidworks, with another autoquiz maybe on 7th November.

2nd Semester

January: Mainly should be utilized in teaching of advanced tools in Solidworks.

February: Introduction to Matlab, as then, everyone would have studied programming and would easily learn the program. It should be introduced, as it is one of the basic tools one needs to learn, because at my internship in Tata Motors, I noticed, almost everyone was asked whether they know how to work with Matlab.

March: Another overhauling workshop during the mid-sem break, but of a two-wheeler gearless vehicle, as working of a car van easily be found on the internet in detail, but the same doesn’t go

for an Activa, say. The workshop last year was a huge doubt clearer, as I cleared many of my confusions and misbeliefs, and came to know how things exactly work. And of course, it’s a boost for auto enthusiasts.

Also, the presentations we made for the selection in Baja, albeit not counted for the criteria of selection, were tremendously helpful in the increase of our knowledge in that field we chose. Hence, I would recommend the same to be done again, but with a different target, say a party or something.

Another Baja session, but this time, with deeper knowledge, deeper enthusiasm, deeper doubts.

This is a brief vision of what I would like to conduct activities in the Automobile club. Hope these would be implemented earnestly.
