DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
AUTOMOBILE LAB
The newly developed automobile Laboratory in the Department of
Mechanical Engineering is located at Mechanical Workshop Building. The
main objective of this lab is to make the student understand about various
components of petrol engine and diesel engine by dismantling and assembling
parts like carburetor, alternator, water pump etc. Students also gain
knowledge about transmission, suspension, steering and braking systems.
This lab also has multi-cylinder diesel and petrol engines.
This facility develops interest in the automobile field and making the
students associate with Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and Imperial
Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIE). Students take part in competitions like
SAE SUPRA, SAE BAJA, ISIE ESVC, etc. Go kart vehicle, made by our students
in Technical Symposiums like Pitstop and Mindkraft is worth mentioning. This
provides a platform for students to apply their knowledge in real time
applications.
This lab helps the students in the following ways.
• Design and fabricate models meeting the standards.
• Prepare and present a cost report of the model with proper optimization
of materials used.
• Economically mark the Unique Selling Point of their model with an
analytic business report.
• Correct unexpected failures while testing the vehicle which strengthens
their resolve in the field of automotive engineering.
