Employees in the Automotive (Vehicle Body Building) trade repair vehicle bodies, and manufacture and modify purpose-built bodies to fit other manufacturer's chassis. Vehicles may include buses, caravans, armoured vans, tray and van bodies, semi-trailers, refrigerated vans, horse floats, and fire and police vehicles. They construct framework sections made of various materials by working from engineering drawings, and shaping, welding and cutting. They also fit axles, suspensions and brakes, install and repair wiring and lighting systems on trailers and caravans, and install hydraulic and pneumatic systems and vehicle component seals. They may also perform other tasks such as: welding automotive panels, chassis and structures manufacturing wiring harnesses fabricating a range of components, install glass and fittings modifying chassis and frames If you are seeking recognition in the Automotive (Vehicle Body Building) trade, you must provide evidence demonstrating the nature and duration of your employment, such as: log books or job cards illustrating the nature of trade work you have performed work-related references from employers and qualified supervisors outlining the duration of employment and detailing the nature of work you have performed, procedures applied and tools and equipment used which are consistent with the Automotive (Vehicle Body Building) trade.
