Cape May PointState Park

Originally commisioned as a series of fortifications and installations by the United States government during World War Two, the point was not reopened to the general public until the cessation of hostilities. Today, the 253 acre state park is the location of one of the most visited bird watching sites in North America, a number of first rate nature trails, and a community of naturalists dedicated to preserving the beauty and balance of the beaches and wetlands.

SUNSETBEACHSUNSETBEACH Nestled along the western edge of the Cape, Sunset Beach faces the Delaware Bay, and has seen its fair share of the Sea’s wrath. Only 50 yards from shore, the “Concrete Ship”, originally named the S.S Atlantus, sank in 1926 after breaking its moorings during a storm. Since then, the wreckage has become just as much of an attraction as the beach itself . Walking along the beach, sharp eyed visitors can spot unique quartz, known as Cape May Diamonds, which are prized by both jewelers and craftsman alike. A birds eye view of the beach is offered from atop of the old World War Two fire watch tower, which doubles as a veteren operated museum.

Cape May diamonds are not real diamonds, rather they are exceptional examples of quartz which once found amongst the sands, can be polished and turned into something truly beautiful.

Found amongst the duplexes lining the Back Bay, the Lost Fisherman Memorial watches over the departing vessels. Sailors and fam-ilies still leave trinkets and mementos along the memorial in remembrance and tribute.

Historic Cape May Historic Cape May

Founded in 1848, Cape May, New Jersey has weathered both the sea and time better than most towns ever could. The heart of the town rests on the eastern portion of the cape and is the center of tourism and commerce. Vintage architecture of the Victorian Era is commonplace, as is the quaint seaside charm.
