Series
Living the Sacred
Thursdays, 24 Oct, 31 Oct, 7 Nov & 14 Nov 2019; 10am to 12.30pm
We are all called, by our baptism, to be priests in our everyday lives. But what does this mean for our world? How do we understand our own priesthood within our communities?
In this course, we will consider how the concept of priesthood developed from Jewish and pagan roots, and how it might be re-interpreted in the future.
We will explore the issues by studying the scriptures. From the Old Testament, we will consider three Jewish concepts – “kavod” (sacred), mishkan” (tabernacle) and “shekinah” (indwelling). From the New Testament, we will look at passages pointing to the ministerial priesthood and our common priesthood.
We will also examine how music and literature have reflected historical understandings, and will look at some pertinent excerpts from film and television programmes.
Presented by Sr Teresa Brittain and Vin Allerton

Creative Day
Paint and Pray: The Woman at the Well Fri, 15 Nov | 10:00am – 4:00pm
Jesus has the most extraordinary conversation when he meets a woman drawing water from Jacob’s Well. We are going to use paint, pencils, paper and imagination to draw close to them, listen to their exchanges and maybe hear some of what God is saying to us today. No previous artistic experience required and no masterpieces expected on the day.
Henry Martin is an artist, writer and ordained Anglican minister. He has recently written Eavesdropping as a book for Lent.
Reflective Afternoon
Experience on the Boundaries Thurs, 5 Dec | 1-3:30 pm
An afternoon reflecting on and praying for and into the thresholds, boundaries in our lives; spiritual, social and physical. Together we will explore these liminal places through a Celtic informed spirituality seeking to discover God at work and the challenges and blessings therein.
Jason Powell is an Anglican priest in Manchester with an interest in Celtic theology.

Bible Study Third Wednesday of the month 2:00-4:00pm Third Thursday of the month 7:00 - 9:00pm
Bible Study looks at different books and themes. Throughout our studies we see the continuity of the scriptures, trying to appreciate the people of faith who have passed them on to us and looking at how we can live the significance of that word to us today in our modern world.
Sept: Repentance Oct: Blessing Nov: Peace
Come and explore these themes through Scripture, where do they come from? Discuss and share with others, discover deeper meanings in your own life.
