Definitions This document uses the same definitions as TEMP (SES). Both ‘emergency’ and ’disaster’ are used nationally and internationally to describe events that result in loss of/damage to life (human and animal), property and the environment, and require special arrangements to address the consequences that arise from them. In Tasmania, the preferred term is ‘emergency’.

DPIPWE is the primary agency involved in emergency animal welfare support services.
The AVA Tasmania Emergency Response Plan (AVA TERP) sets out the Division’s plan for responding to
emergencies and the roles and responsibilities of the AVA Tasmanian Division during an emergency
impacting veterinarians and animal welfare.
The Plan should be read in conjunction with TEMP and the AVA National Crisis Response Plan.

BACKGROUND TO THE RESPONSE INVOLVING VETERINARIANS AND ANIMAL WELFARE
