Automatic VLAN Assignment (AVA)
What are the benefits of AVA ? An automatic process that makes IP-Phone deployment easier
No Tag configuration to enter on each phone set Allows Voice/Data traffic split (PC cascaded behind an IP-Phone)
- Broadcast domain separation- QOS (Voice prioritization over Data)
Network Switch
802.1q port
VLAN 1 (Default)
VLAN 3(Voice VLAN)

Introduction
How AVA works ?
AVA is based on a double DHCP request to a Communication Server Phase 1 : AVA process to get the Voice VLAN ID Phase 2 : Standard DHCP process to obtain the IP address
in the Voice VLAN

Automatic VLAN Assignment (AVA) : Principle
Two Phases for the Automatic VLAN Assignment (AVA) Phase 1 : AVA Process Phase 2 : DHCP process

AVA process : DHCP Discover
Initial Status PC and IP-Touch phone are cascaded on the same Data Switch port
(OS 6648) belonging to the Default VLAN (1) The Appliance Server acts as a DHCP/AVA Server
Phase 1 step 1 The IP-Phone 4035 sends a DHCP Discover (Broadcast)
that is forwarded to VLAN6 by the DHCP relay agent

AVA : DHCP Offer
Phase 1 step 2 The Appliance Server (DHCP Server + AVA Server) replies with a
DHCP offer This offer contains a dummy address and asks the IP-phone to
Tag its traffic (tag value is 3 for this configuration).
