  • 3NextelTextiles

Ceramic fiber products for high temperatureaviation applications.

  • Physical Properties3M Nextel Fabrics, Tapes, and Sleevings are designedto meet the toughest thermal, mechanical and electricalperformance requirements, outperforming the usefullimits of other high temperature textiles. Nextel 312Ceramic Fibers and Nextel 440 Ceramic Fibers arecontinuous polycrystalline metal oxide fibers suitablefor producing textiles without the aid of other fiber or metal inserts.

Cost Competitive SolutionPer square foot costs can belower than competitivealternatives. Nextel qualityand product lifetime addlasting value.

    Low ShrinkageProducts fabricated from

Nextel ceramic fibers exhibit very low shrinkage, providing excellent dimensional stability.

Abrasion ResistanceNextel 312 fibers demonstrated excellent abrasionresistance after a 30 minute exposure at up to 2000F(1093C). Nextel 312 fibers lasted 2.5 to 5 times longerthan leached glass in the Duplan Silk Abrasion Test.

Thermal Mechanical PropertiesProducts made with Nextel 312 and Nextel 440 ceramicfibers retain greater strength and flexibility at highertemperatures than other refractory textile materials.

Thermal Insulation PropertiesNextel fiber products have excellent resistance tothermal shock, have low thermal conductivity and canbe fabricated into excellent high temperature thermalinsulators.

Non-hygroscopicNextel 312 fibers smooth, non-porous surface onlygains 0.08% of its weight after 2 hours exposure to100% humidity.

3M Nextel can be used as thermal insulation for wire harnesses.

Spray-on insulation materials requireextensive downtime and present seriousenvironmental barriers for periodictesting and repair. Removable fireproofblankets provide superior insulationand fire protection, while drasticallyreducing maintenance downtime from 10 days to less than 12 hours.

Electrical PropertiesNextel fibers high electrical resistance at elevatedtemperatures, low shrinkage and low moisture absorptioncharacteristics make it excellent for high temperatureelectrical insulation applications. Nextel fibers contain noresidual acids or chlorides to leach out and cause etchingof metal.
