CTI TELEPLATFORMSTeleplatforms are elevating work platforms specifically designed and developed by CTI to enable safe and quick access to raised working areas.

Developed for aircraft service, they are used in aircraft hangars to enhance the performance of:

► Aircraft manufacturing and assembly► Aircraft light (line) maintenance► Aircraft cleaning, paint stripping, masking and re- paint processes► Aircraft overhaul

Suspended from a specific crane trolley, a telescoping mast below that is equipped with a working platform on the lower end is able to reach the hangar floor. This will ensure worker personnel entry and lift the workers to any required working area.

The teleplatforms can operate in any hangar location of the spanned crane system and even allow a rotation of the work platform to perfectly align the working edge with the aircraft. Interlocking devices are used to enable the interchanging of hoist and teleplatform trolleys between cranes and both to and from parking spurs.

Initially invented by CTI and first applied in the Boeing B747 production process, CTI has the largest number of teleplatforms in service for aircraft manufacturers, airlines and MRO companies with the most important market share. From the earliest design to the latest high-tech perform-ance, generations of service personnel have experienced the reliability, longevity and user friendly designs of CTI’s teleplatform solutions.

CTI TELEPLATFORMS

CTI teleplatforms come equipped with an integrated collision protection system. This ensures that the aircraft will not be subject in any way to damage by the teleplat-form. The lifting system is a fail-safe design.

Motion is controlled by the CTI-developed RMC (relative motion control) system, which takes into account the current working platform position. By moving the joystick on the control panel, the platform will move in controller view’s direction, as long as this is fixed within the respective console. Furthermore, the RMC always re-calculate any current rotated position of the working platform in relation to the crane runway or crane bridge direction.

Thanks to this user friendly and easy to operate new sys-tem, the possibility of errors caused by failure to comply within the operating rules is greatly reduced.

Working platforms can be equipped with any necessary accessory and media including:

OVERHEAD CRANES

The systems allow very long distances to be spanned via an arrangement of multiple runway beams that work in parallel. The hoist trolleys will run underslung in the flange of the runway beams. From there, working in con-junction with the CTI interlocks, the trolleys can pass to the crane bridge in the adjacent track or cross over to a monorail system.

The systems can be designed either as single or double girder bridges. The latter can also carry CTI teleplatform trolleys (elevated working platforms) to provide worker access to elevated working areas.

INTERLOCKING CRANES

Equipped with interlocking devices, the operation of hoist trolleys is not simply limited to either single or dou-ble girder crane bridges. In addition, they can be used on the CTI designed monorail tracks, which are in turn controlled by state of the art technology. Furthermore, required handling tasks can be executed in manual, step-controlled or fully automated mode.

TRAVELLING CRANES

The travelling cranes running on top of fixed runway beams deliver advantages for heavy duty operations. The bridges running on tracks of spans of up to approximately 30 m are able to carry loads of 65 tons and more, without the need to be suspended from the roof structures.

AUTOMATIC CRANES

Automatic cranes - also known as “Process cranes” can be designed from any of the earlier design performances. However, these are designated to be fully implemented in the production processes as an integral module.

Usually equipped with a custom-made grab system, interlocking and further indexing units, they are mostly applied to the handling of materials in various manufac-turing processes. Operated by PLC they will be control-led in accordance with the requirements of the individual production phases.

CTI DOCKING SYSTEMS

CTI aircraft docking systems are designed for:► Dedicated aircraft type on wheels or on jacks or

on any aircraft fleet mix for MRO► Final assembly and conversion► Aircraft painting

From ground supported or roof suspended, any individual solution can be delivered to meet clients specific needs. CTI’s designs are always produced with the minimizing of docking procedures in mind and this ensures the shortest possible air-craft downtimes.

At CTI docking systems working platforms will be ar-ranged along the aircraft to enable simultaneous access of any respective working area. The CTI designs always take into consideration the relevant aircraft dimensions and safest working conditions for the service personnel.

To ensure functional tests and exchange of aircraft com-ponents, docks are equipped with sliding platforms or flaps.

Planning and/or installation of personnal lighting, compressed air and many further media supplies makes CTI docking systems to most valuable MRO investment.

CTI ENGINE HANDLING IN MRO AND TEST CENTERS

Beyond the proven access solutions for MRO and air-craft painting, CTI’s scope also includes safe handling of dismantled aircraft parts. In this area, CTI not only concentrates on hangar crane installations, but also on various handling installations for engine handling in MRO and test centers.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE CENTERS (MRO):

CTI supplies customized mono-rail and bi-rail carrier sys-tems, either roof supported or floor mounted gantry de-sign for transfer of engine components or the completed assembly.Both design variants can provide either manual or semi-automated engine transfer. Individual system compo-nents can be applied either for single work stations or alternatively configured to an overall integrated transfer and workstation concept.

JET PROPULSION CENTERS (TEST CELLS):

CTI supplies customized monorail carriers utilizing our patented tracks for overhead transport of engine pack-ages from the preparation hall into test cells and vice versa.Handling equipment for the preparation area and work stations (lift tables) for the engine test cell complements the offered CTI scope:

WORKSTATIONS FOR A350 XWB COMPOSITE FUSELAGE PANELS

CTI was again selected, this time for the ambitious A350 XWB composite manufacturing process, which requires extremely sensitive and precise handling of the transport goods. AIRBUS, PREMIUM AEROTEC and AEROLIA rely on CTI Systems customized handling and transfer systems with integrated workstations for automated and semi-auto-mated work procedures for four (4) production facilities locations in Augsburg, Nordenham, Stade (all in Germa-ny) and Méaulte (France).

The following work sequences of the sensitive A350 XWB fu-selage panels are being covered by CTI installations:

► Demoulding

► NDT surface inspection► Trimming► Curing/Repair► Visual inspection

including subsequent transfer lines and buffer stations to the surface treatment and through the drying oven until dis-patch, resp. hand-over station for final assembly.

Additionally, CTI handles the transport of the final panels from the assembly line to the dispatch area in Stade. In-stallations consist of decoupling devices, buffer places and preparation areas. In Nordenham, all three assem-bly buildings are interconnected by a transport system of CTI Systems.

CTI AIR CARGO HANDLING SYSTEMSEXPANSION OF THE LUXAIR CARGO CENTER

Phase IV expansion of the Luxair cargo center by CTI in early 2008, increased capacity by 200.000 tonnes to a total annual capacity of almost 1.000.000 tonnes.At the heart of this expansion is a complete ULD storage system with 2 elevating transfer vehicles. The CTI con-tract also covered air and land side handling links.

This expansion increased the stacker storage system by 306 positions for air freight pallets, equivalent to a capac-ity of approximately seven (7) Boeing 747 cargo freight-ers. A 2.4 x 3 m ULD air freight pallet can hold up to 7 tonnes of air freight. Following the expansion, 1.554 pallet storage places are available at the Luxair cargo center.

The new system also provides a further 20 cold ULD stacker positions, doubling the cargo center’s cold stor-age capacity.

Retrofit of the PLC-level cargo handling system, by re-placement of the Siemens PLC-equipment from Simatic S5 to Simatic S7, including the appropriate portation and adaptation of the PLC application- and network com-munication software in the various stationary and mobile CPUs.

The replacement scope covered 24 PLC groups, located in over 130 PLC cabinets and approximately 10.000 dig-ital I/O points. The modifications were performed in 18 months of implementation and under running production condition.

Replacement and expansion of cargo handling system in an existing building. The exisiting ULD storage rack was expanded to a second level of friction roller decks. The existing manually operated transfer vehicle was re-placed by a new automatic elevating transfer vehicle, for 2 levels, including future expandability for 3 levels rack access.

The control system was modernized by means of flex-ible touch screen panels, inside the ETV and on all input/output lanes, including barcode identification sys-tems, added weighing stations and tag label printers. The control system enables service-, semiautomatic- and au-tomatic operation modes, including a light warehouse management system for the contents of the racking.
