Theterm“poka-yoke”wascoinedbyShigeoShingo,aleadingexpertontheToyotaProductionSystem.PronouncedPO-kahYO-kay,itmightbetranslatedliterallyas“prevent-mistake.”Theideaistoincorporateerror-proofingintothedesignofprocesses,sothatmistakesaredifficult(ideally,impossible)tomake,andeasytoidentifyandcorrectshouldtheyoccur.
