August was a busy month here at Avon Valley with quite a few tournaments taking place including the Men’s, Ladies, and Junior Club Championships (updates on all are further along in this issue). Now as we move into September the Club will quickly become busy with construction activity beginning on the new clubhouse, so all in all a very exciting

time at the golf course. September and October look to be good months for some excellent Fall golf and hopefully we’ll have as late a playing season as possible.Paul Isenor

● Pro Shop Report ●

Wow, it’s fall already. Hard to believe that summer is over so soon. Look around and you can see the leaves changing, feel the fall air and watch the juniors go back to school. Well let’s not put away our golf clubs just yet, we have three good months of golf ahead. Some golfers would even say the best 3 months to play.

With the arrival of fall, I would like to remind all of the members that have credit in the pro shop to use it up as soon as you can, all credit must be redeemed by October 31, any credit remaining will be lost. We still have sizes and styles left for you to choose from, so get in now and us it up.

I would like to take this time to congratulate Dean Woodman and all of our winners in our men’s club championship. These events are fun and I hope that all of the players will continue to play and enjoy the competition.

Struggling with your game? Need a little extra help with your swing? Short game? Mental game? Come by the pro shop and book in for a lesson with Chris or myself. Private, semi-private and course management lessons are all available.

Gift CertificatesRemembeR, all gift certificates that were issued

this year, both prizes and purchased as gifts, must

be used this season. So get into the pro-shop

early to make sure you get the size you need.!Brooklyn insurance

● Grounds and Greens Report ●

As summer comes to an end and we enter our autumn season, golf at Avon Valley should be some of the most enjoyable of the golf season. The course is in the best condition it has been in all year and, with a little help from Mother Nature, the next couple of months should provide our members and our guests with many hours of great golf and lots of fun. Our maintenance team has continued to work very hard to provide all of us with a course that does not have to take a back seat to any course when it comes to playability. As you play over the next several weeks you will see that we have started to catch up on some maintenance other then the day to day mowing, etc. The bridge has been re-planked at # 8 and the bridge at #2 has been repaired. The low spot to the left side of #16 fairway has also received some much needed attention, the ditch in front of the ladies tee on # 16 has been filled with gravel and plans are underway to replace and add to drainage pipes etc, around the 150 yard marker on # 10 fairway. I have in every report this year asked that we as members do our part to help protect our course by following these simple but very important rules:

1. Replace all Divots2. Repair your ball marks on the greens3. Keep power carts 35 ft. from tees and greens

unless they are on cart paths.

I would ask again that we all pay special attention to the above rules so as our course will reward all of us and our guests with the fine playing conditions we all so very much appreciate.

Dean has informed me that two of his very key employees will be leaving us in mid-September to advance their studies in golf course management. On behalf of the Grounds Committee and our members I would like to wish both Andre Aymar and Andrew Kennedy a very successful career and thank them for their hard work as employees of Avon Valley. Remember Golf is meant to be fun... tee it up, hit it and enjoy the month of September at Avon Valley. It should be the best month of the year.

● Junior Development Report ●

Our final fun-nite was held August 28 and the format was a buddy scramble. We had 24 juniors participate (our largest turnout of the summer) and 20 “buddies”. It was a beautiful evening for golf and we followed up with a pizza party and prizes for each of the junior participants.

I think, for the most part, everyone enjoyed the fun-nites and Tuesdays clinics (looking forward to the new practice facility for next year!)

I would like to thank once more all of the committee members, the canteen staff, the pro shop staff, and all of the prize contributors for making my first year (and hopefully not last) as junior development director a most enjoyable one again thank you!

It should also be noted that a number of

our juniors fared very well in a number of tournaments around the Maritimes and as far away as Ontario. Way to go: Toven, Jordan, Evan, and Joe!

Respectfully submitted,Scott

● Winges and Hodder Tournament ●

The 2006 Winges and Hodder were held on Sunday, August 13th, and the weather was terrific for all who participated. This year’s tournament attracted 20 teams, which is disappointing considering past years.

The gross winners where Cynthia Creaser and Dean Woodman with an 81. Dean sunk a 23-foot putt on the 18th hole to enable them to win by 1 stroke. The net winners where Wendy Clark and Hughie Cook, who where also the Mixed Club champions a few weeks ago. Congratulations to both teams on their victory.

A club championship to be remembered. This was our last championship to be played in this building (finally). We did it up in fine style. The weather was fantastic and comradely and fun was truly there. I must take this opportunity to thank the members who put their time and effort to make this championship a great success. Chris Vey who did a wonderful job on the posters and cancer awareness ribbons. Peter Cooke who was with me from the beginning, I know you are all aware of Peters expertise, wonderful. Murray Purcell who gave so much of himself and time for us. Jeff Bourque & John Gomes, for their time in scoring and cooking.

Wanda & staff, their cooperation and consideration was great. Thank you to Pat Dooley for hiring Wanda, great job. Thank you to Dean & staff for everything, the course is beautiful. Thank you to Andrew and pro shop staff for being understanding and cooperative. Special thanks to Cindy Creaser and Gail Hong for donating the delicious steaks, to Joan Langille-Elliott, Tim Horton’s donation, jacket shirts, balls, purses, we certainly appreciated everything. Last but not least a special thanks to Dave Campbell for his support in our ladies division.

From all of us, Thank You.Beverly Digdon- Chair
