AWARDS, BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS Awards, bursaries and scholarships are available to students attending post-secondary programs throughout Ontario. AWARDS: An award is a gift which can be a sum of money or citation which is given to a student to recognize achievement in some capacity as established by the donor. BURSARIES: A bursary is a monetary or equivalent award granted to a student or potential student to enable that person to continue studies. It is based primarily on financial need, but achievement is also considered. SCHOLARSHIPS: A scholarship is an award of money or equivalent granted to a student toward the expense of further study. It is based on academic achievement, but need may also be considered. Scholarship recipients are generally selected based on donor established criteria. A list is included in this package for your perusal and also posted on the St. John’s College website (www.sjconline.ca) under Student Services. SCHOOL NOMINATED SCHOLARSHIPS/AWARDS

The following scholarships require a student to be nominated by their home school. Prior to the

deadline for each scholarship, Student Services will provide a preliminary application to be completed

by interested students. A committee of staff members will review the submitted applications to

determine which candidates will be nominated by St. John’s College. The successful candidates will

then be required to complete and submit the appropriate application and documentation by the required

deadlines. Please review the criteria and deadlines of these scholarships.
