Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)

1. Ruling party

2. Ruling the state with majority for last 5 years

3. No Election Manifesto Available with Commitments for Ex-servicemen.

4. No clarifications given.

5. In the Government Achievements announced no mention of veterans.

Samajwadi Party (SP)

1. Second largest party in last UP assembly.

2. No commitments to ex-servicemen mentioned in the election manifesto.

3. Issues were raised with the party by submitting demands. No clarification given.

4. Party president ex defence minister and his son from Military School Dholpur but yet no

response.

Indian National Congress

1. National party ruling at state.

2. Making an attempt to come back in power in UP.

3. No commitments given for veterans in vision document 2020 though 20 lakhs Jobs have

been offered ( none for ex-servicemen)

(b) Create new opportunities for the meaningful employment of Ex-Servicemen

Comments

It is a first success of IVD to have issue of veterans included in action plan of congress.

IVD made interactions at various levels including Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi

when IVD found that in their vision document nothing has been committed for veterans.




BJP

1. National party contesting lection to come back in power.

2. IVD interacted with leadership which made them give an additional commitments for

creation of commission for ex-servicemen on lines of minority commission.

Priority to the re-settlement of ex-servicemen.

Free education to the children of ex-servicemen

Ex-servicemen with less than 1 lakh income per year be given grants for marriage of

children.

Families of soldiers killed in war or terrorism be given priority in re-settlement. Red tapism

will be removed. Land for house on concession rates.

Free travel facilities to ex-servicemen and war widows in roadways buses within the district.

Concession in house and water tax.

War widows and ex-servicemen with more than 50% disabilities and their dependents be

given free coaching and hostel facilities.

On interaction IVD, one more commitment of setting up of commission for Ex-servicemen in

the state given.

Guidelines to the Veterans to Select the Party and Candidate to Vote in Assemebly Election 2012 in UP

1. Go through the above commitments and information carefully and see which party has given commitments for Resettlement of Ex-servicemen and war widows.

2. Consider the track record of the shortlisted parties in terms of these having fulfilled their past commitments at centre or state, if they are in power or were in power.

3. Check if their candidates have following qualifications and records

a. Qualified above graduation. b. Do they have some additional professional qualification? c. Do they have required maturity and experience? d. What are their career achievements so far? e. Do they have any criminal records? f. Have they filed income tax? g. Are they ex-servicemen, or related to ex-servicemen in any form (part of family)? h. If possible ask their commitments to ex-servicemen?

i. In case of ex-servicemen is contensting from any party or as indepent. Vote for

him.

4. Haw many candidates the short listed party has fielded in the election?

5. Remember though our constitution maintains the supremacy of parliament or assemblies, but on ground it is the party high command which is more important.

6. See the combination of party and candidate and then vote.
