During America’s downtime, upcom-ing Lions Region IV Chair Jeremy Bairtook a 100-house tour across CarrollCounty to honor the lifelong service ofthoseCarrollCountyLionsandLionesseswhowill be serving 30 ormore years andcontinue their dedication to and leader-ship in Carroll County, according to aLions news release.

Bair had one-on-one meetings fromafar at mailboxes, front porches and backyards with those recognized for theirefforts made to improve the community,empower volunteerism,meet humanitar-ian needs, encourage peace and instilllove of country. The Lions (Liberty,Intelligence and Our Nations Safety) areproud of the motto “We Serve” and servein16CarrollCountyClubs.Lions receiveda Certificate and Pin themed “CarrollCounty Strong: Love of Country, GodBless America&Volunteerism.”

On hold now, Bair pictured a meetingat theWestminsterVFW, includingmem-bers from all 16 Carroll County LionsClubs.

Among the 200 Lions in attendancerepresenting 575 County Lions wouldhave been Lions Bob Keefer, EmersonBair, Bill Stonesifer, Dave Brauning, AndyDemario Sr., John Calhoun and BobbyBullock Sr. to lead the Pledge to the Flag,Lions Ted Burnett, Don Champ, JohnHaifley, Richard Liebno and Dale Keeferto lead God Bless America, Lions MindyCoates, Richard Hosfeld, Bobby Grahamand Tom Houck to lead the invocation,Lions Donald Lawyer, Barbara Mills andBob Miller to lead the Lions Toast andLionesses Sue Miller, Eva Whitman andJudy Flynn to lead the Lioness Toast.Musical entertainment was to includeLittlestown Lion Herb Sell. Speecheswere scheduled for upcoming DistrictGovernor Barbara Brimigion, ZoneChairs and Club Presidents. Among theinvited were 1st Vice District GovernorCharles Croft Jr, 2ndViceDistrict Gover-nor Nadja Muchow, District GovernorEvan Gillett and Region Chair RonKafchinski.

When rescheduled, Bair will discuss

Lions’ main focus, efforts towards blindand sight awareness. Youth VisionScreening, the Leader Dog Program andtheir eye exam screening partnershipwith the Carroll County Health Depart-ment will be highlighted. Goals includeDiabetes Awareness, Childhood Cancerservices, Protecting the Environment,Relieving the Hunger, Engaging the

Youth and Disaster Relief. Bair’s ideascontinue as hemade a simulated video toreflect the anticipated banquet in August.He plans to make monthly videos forLions to highlight all of their history inand efforts toward the community.

During America’s pause, all clubs havetried to meet community needs. TenLions Clubs joined together under the

current Region Chair Ron Kafchinski tosupport local mask making efforts anddistribution. Food Donations ChairsChuck Ruppert and Barbara and BobHayes also led the clubs’workwithGraceLutheran Church to provide over 5,000servings of food.

The Lions and Lionesses of District22W, consisting of Carroll, Frederick,Washington, Allegany and Garrett coun-ties, held a virtual videomeetingMay15 toannounce the results of the election ofofficers for the coming year and to honorLions for their service to Lionism. Theannual Multiple District 22 Convention,scheduled forMay 11-14 in Ocean City, wascanceled.

Lion Barbara Brimigion, a member ofthe Freedom District Lions Club, waselected to the office of District Governorand will lead the district during the2020-2021Lions fiscal year. Elected to theofficeof1stViceDistrictGovernorwas2ndViceDistrictGovernorCharlesCroftof the

LaValeLionsClub.LionNadjaMuchowofthe Thurmont Lions Club was elected tothe office of 2ndViceDistrictGovernor.

District Governor Elect Brimigion hasselected Lions Susan Bonura, of the SouthCarroll Lioness Lions Club, to be cabinetsecretary; Forrest Hudspeth, of the Tay-lorsville-WinfieldLionsClub, tobecabinettreasurer; and Mindy Coates, of theTaylorsville-Winfield Lions Club, to beadministrative assistant. The new officerswill assume office July 1. There is a“ChangeofBanner”celebrationscheduledfor July 25 when then Immediate PastDistrict Governor Evan Gillett will sym-bolically turnover thereins tonewDistrictGovernorBrimigion.

District Governor Gillett awarded Dis-trictGovernor’sCommendationMedals inrecognition of exemplary service to Li-onism to Lions Ginger TurnbullMellor, ofthe Roaring Run Lions Club, and TedBurnett, of theWestminster LionsClub.

Lions inducted into the District 22WHonor Roll were Steve Finger, of theLaVale Lions Club; Steve Swam, of theLineboro-Manchester Lions Club; JackCoe, of the NewWindsor Lions Club; KayField, of the South Carroll Lioness LionsClub; Mindy Coates, of the Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club; Terry Grable, of theTerraRubraLionsClub; SusanFavorite, ofthe Thurmont Lions Club; and RobertKeefer, of theWestminster LionsClub.

Lions elect district leaders

Governor Elect Barbara Brimigion

Donald Lawyer, Taneytown Lions Club. The Taneytown Lions Club was planning tohold its annual non-profit donations night at the end of March when the “stay athome” order was issued by the governor. Although the group could not meet face toface with the non-profit representatives, they were able to mail donations to thefollowing organizations: Access Carroll, Taneytown Fire Company (including separatedonations to the ladies auxiliary and ambulance service), Literacy Council of CarrollCounty, Rape Crisis Intervention Service, The Shepherd’s Staff, Taneytown Heritageand History Museum, Arc of Carroll County, Taneytown Caring and Sharing, CarrollHospice, Carroll Hospital Foundation, and Mission of Mercy.

On May 8, Westminster Lions Club and Mount Zion United Methodist Church ofFinksburg members Bob and Barb Hayes delivered groceries to Safe Haven Shelterand to Grace Lutheran Church, and then made a stop at the Human Society of Car-roll County to drop off cat food and bleach. Mark and Diana Fraser helped with shop-ping for the truck load of groceries. Anyone wanting to donate grocery items can callBarb Hayes at 410-596-1483.
