Solid Parabolic Microwave Antennas

Radio Frequency Systemsoffers the most compre-

hensive line of highestquality microwaveantennas in the indus-try. Antennas areavailable in all thecommon frequency

bands ranging from3GHz to 60GHz. They are

available in diameters from1 ft (0.3 m) to 15 ft (4.60 m).

System design becomes easy and efficient with such acomprehensive antenna offering.

The antennas are available in four performance classesoffering complete flexibility when designing a net-work.

The antennas meet the pattern requirements accordingto EN 300 631, EN 300 833 and FCC depending on thefrequency range.

In addition to the different electrical classes of anten-nas Radio Frequency Systems offers the system designengineers different options of survival wind speeds. This allows the use of antennas in areas whereextreme wind conditions are normal.

Standard Performance Antennas

Standard Performance Antennas are economical solu-tions for systems where side lobe suppression is of lessimportance. The antennas consist of a reflector, feedand tower mount. Low VSWR versions are availablefor low echo distortion.

STANDARD PERFORMANCE ANTENNASSingle polarized PA & PAL seriesSingle polarized, spread spectrum PSF seriesDual polarized PAX series

Improved Performance Antennas

Improved Performance Antennas areunshrouded and offer an economicsolution for systems requiring goodradiation performance particularly inthe back region. The improved F/Bratio is achieved by use of an effi-cient feed design together with a deepdish reflector. These features result inan improved front to back ratio, andwere specially designed to meet FCCcategory A standards.

IMPROVED PERFORMANCE ANTENNASSingle polarized PAD seriesDual polarized PADX series

Introduction and Antenna Descriptions

High Performance Antennas

High Performance Antennas are similar to Ultra HighPerformance Antennas in construction. They are ideal-ly suited for systems where a good level of side lobesuppression is required.

HIGH PERFORMANCE ANTENNASSingle polarized DA seriesDual polarized DAX series

Ultra High Performance Antennas

Ultra High Performance Antennas are the optimumchoice for systems where a high level of pattern per-formance is required because of high local radio con-gestion. The antennas are supplied with low VSWRfeed, planar radome, tower mount and shroud with RFabsorber.

ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE ANTENNASSingle polarized UA seriesDual polarized UDA series

High Cross Polar Discrimination Antennas

UXA series of antennas are based on Ultra HighPerformance Antennas. These antennas offer high sidelobe suppression. In addition UXA antennas offerextremely high cross-polar discrimination. They aretherefore ideally suited for very high capacity systemsutilizing extensive frequency reuse in highly congest-ed environments. This outstanding performance isachieved by use of a special corrugated illuminator, arigid torsion box back structure which ensures thereflector maintains its shape in the field and strictquality control during manufacture.

The cross-polar characteristics for radiation anglesclose to bore sight meet the highest XPD requirementsaccording to EN 300 833 and FCC.

High cross-polar discrimination antennas are availablefor frequencies from 4 GHz to 23 GHz.

SlimLine and CompactLine Antennas

Radio Frequency Systems recognizes that mobile oper-ators and private microwave users have requirementsfor cost effective solutions for their microwave anten-na systems. These needs include products, which areeasy and quick to install while maintaining good elec-trical performance. In response to these needs RadioFrequency Systems developed the SlimLine andCompactLine series of antennas.

The SlimLine series of antennas utilize a conventionalfeed system and are available in Standard, High andUltra High performance versions. The SlimLine seriesof antennas are available in diameters from 1ft (0.3 m)to 6 ft (1.8 m).

The CompactLine series of antennas use a special feedsystem which results in a reduced shroud length andconsequently a lower profile antenna. These antennasare lighter in weight than standard antennas forreduced tower loading and shipping costs.Furthermore CompactLine antennas up to 2ft (0.6m)diameter are very rugged, with a wind loading ratingof 250 km/h (155mph). Their type designation is SBfor single polarization and SBX for dual polarization.CompactLine antennas are available in 1ft (0.3 m), 2 ft (0.6 m), 3ft (0.9 m) and 4ft (1.2 m) diameters.

Product Description

FLEXWELL® elliptical waveguide is constructed oflongitudinally continuous seam welded, highlyconductive copper tube, corrugated and precisionformed into an elliptical cross section. It ismanufactured in continuous lengths using a specialseam welding process developed by the RFSorganization.

The corrugation design achieves high transversestability, flexibility and crush strength for superiorhandling and forming at an installation. The inherentstrength and flexibility of FLEXWELL waveguideallows on location, a continuous length ofwaveguide to be run directly from a tower-mountedantenna to the equipment building, eliminatingflange joint discontinuities and the use of bends, twists and flex sections associated with a rigidrectangular waveguide system. Because of itsflexibility, FLEXWELL elliptical waveguide can beeasily transported to an installation site in coils oron reels and then uncoiled as required duringinstallation.

FLEXWELL elliptical waveguide has set an industrystandard for excellent electrical performance. Eachwaveguide has been carefully designed for low lossand low VSWR in specific frequency bands. Foroptimum system performance, there is no substitutefor FLEXWELL waveguide.

As part of the RFS manufacturing process, allelliptical waveguides undergo several differentelectrical tests. Prior to shipping, every length is100% tested again for input VSWR, and undergoesa twenty-four hour pressure test. This additionaltesting is performed to guarantee conformance withpublished specifications and to avoid any problemsin the field.

A FLEXWELL elliptical waveguide feeder requiresless planning and reduces installation costs whencompared to a feeder system using a rigidrectangular waveguide. FLEXWELL waveguide isavailable cut to length with factory attachedconnectors or in continuous lengths for terminationin the field.

Product Description

The APD-20 series Automatic PressurizationDehydrator is designed for reliable pressurization ofelliptical waveguide, coaxial cable and rigidtransmission line systems. The dehydrator includesa self contained completely automated air dryingsystem that utilizes a pressure swing moistureabsorption cycle to provide pressurized dry air whilecontinuously purging the collected moisture to theatmosphere. This eliminates the need forreplacement or manual reactivation of the desiccantand makes our APD-20 and APD-70 seriesdehydrators ideal for unattended operation at evenremote sites. Dehydrators are also suitable for theaverage manned working environment since theytypically run less than 5% of the time. In mostnormal applications, APD series dehydrators can beexpected to operate for up to five years before anymaintenance activities are required.

The APD-20 is rated at .2 SCFM(.09 liter/sec) and-40°F (-40°C) dry air dew point output at a 95°F(35°C) 95% relative humidity input. For normalroom environments the dehydrator output air has atypical dew point of -55°F (-46°C). System pressureis controlled by the dehydrator pressure switchsettings. Normally, this is factory adjusted to 3 psig(20.7kPa) “on” and 5 psig (34.5 kPa) “off”, but maybe readjusted in the field to operate anywherebetween 2 and 15 psig (13.8 kPa and 103.4 kPa).An internal 40 psig check valve guarantees that thecustomer system stays isolated from thedehydrator’s internal system and prevents loss ofsystem pressure due to leakage in the dehydrator. For additional safety, a standard low pressure alarmswitch factory-set at 1 psig (6.9 kPa), is installed inthe dehydrator. The alarm switch contains a set ofSPST contacts that can be used for both local andremote monitoring or alarming. Additional standardfeatures include a 0-15 psig pressure gauge, indicating power light, and a visual moisture monitorwhich is dark blue when dry and turns pink whenwet.

The units may be shelf mounted or placed in a 19”EIA relay rack. A vented back cover for thedehydrator may be ordered as an optionalaccessory.
