DVR advantages over analogue VCR

Consistent image quality, no tape wear-out

Significantly longer recording time

No tape changes and no daily maintenance

Quick search for a specific incident or time

APViS – Axis Patent Pending

An Axis invented algorithm to make room for new recordings on the hard disks by reducing the frame rate of the oldest and least important recordings

Eventually recordings are erased from the hard disks (unless locked)

Increases availability time of recordings compared to the standard FIFO algorithm

Age and priority of the event triggering a recording determine when frame rate reduction is done

Page 12: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Recording Modes - APViS

Normal Same as FIFO, i.e. oldest recording erased completely

no matter what priority

Extended Approximately doubles recording availability over

Normal

Extended Long Approximately five-doubles recording availability over

Normal

Max Store Time Regardless of recording mode, maximum store time of

recordings can be specified per camera to enable compliance with local legislation

AXIS 2460 – Target Customers

Small business owner

IT manager with security responsibility

Security Manager

Page 23: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Customers and applications #1

Small-scale businesses requiring an easy to operate and remotely available monitoring and/or surveillance system: Small retail shops (loss prevention and

monitoring) Gas stations (loss prevention and

monitoring) Small workshops (employee/production

monitoring)

Page 24: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Customers and applications #2

Larger corporate organizations requiring a centrally administered remote monitoring and/or surveillance system: Retail chains/franchises (loss

prevention) Telcos and ISPs (technical facilities

surveillance) Public service providers (monitoring of

water, gas, power supply, etc. systems)

Page 25: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Customers and applications #3

Transportation sector companies: Dispatch companies (loss prevention

and damage control)

Freight centres (loss prevention and damage control)

Cargo and luggage transportation systems (loss prevention and damage control)

Page 26: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Key Features and Benefits of 2460

Revolutionary APViS (Axis Prioritized Video Storage) recording mode, reducing frame rate of old and low priority recordings first, as apposed to “first-in-first-out” Extends the longevity of all and

especially important recordings significantly

Ability to permanently (until manually unlocked) store any recording

Page 27: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Key Features and Benefits of 2460

Secure Storage recording system utilizing all disks for all recordings In the case of a hard disk failure, the

only effect is a 25 % reduction of frame rate for all recordings (in a system with 4 hard disks)

Normal operation at full recording rate is automatically resumed at hard disk failure

Page 28: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Key Features and Benefits of 2460

Network centric, built to be operated over a network or modem, but recording locally

Remote access: distributed/local recording, global operation

All operation and administration tasks in intuitive Web interface: authorization of three levels of users, on-line help

Truly embedded system built on Linux software, as opposed to PC and Windows based

Completely self-maintained system, no disk or recordings maintenance, automatic disk system restoration after power failure, highly reliable and stable operation

Page 29: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Key Features and Benefits of 2460

Built-in firewall and user level access control (user name, password) Unauthorized stations can be locked

out from access

Three levels of users can be defined allowing different levels of access for different authorized persons

Page 30: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

Key Features and Benefits of 2460

Advanced alarm handling Up to 100 events, whereof 50

simultaneously active, can be defined

Recording frame rate can be automatically increased upon alarm

Pre-alarm buffer: recording triggered by event also includes video from just before the event took place

The Competition

Axis 2460 brings a new level of reliability to DVRs! A non “PC based DVR” solid embedded

system.

DVR manufacturers come from an analogue and VHS history They often have a multiplexer built in

and an analog monitor out The network is the multiplexer!

Page 32: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

The Competition

Some have higher some have lower recording performance Many DVR have a total performance of

60 / 50 fps divided over the video input ports normally from 4 to 16 in “our league”

The AXIS 2460 comes in the middle with a total performance of 30 / 25 fps divided over the ports (synchronized cameras) or 15 / 12 fps (unsynchronized)

Page 33: AXIS 2460 Network DVR

The Competition

Many of them don’t allow simultaneous recording, playback, live viewing, and administration

The AXIS 2460 has this triplex functionality

Archiving is often done to CD-RW, tape, Jaz and so on

The AXIS 2460 creates AVI on the PC for archiving on any medium of free choice

Many competitors require client software for remote viewing

The AXIS 2460 has everything built in – even a complete Web server!

Price positioning – 2460 Best value!

Without hard disks List price: US$ 1.599

With 2 hard disks (80 GB total) List price: US$ 2.499

With 4 hard disks (160 GB total) List price: US$ 3.499
