MAY 1, 2016—SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Our Parish Mission: Christ calls our parish family to be a
beacon of hope in a rapidly changing community.
First Reception of Holy Eucharist This weekend at our 11 am Sunday mass we welcome eight of our young
members to the Lord’s Table of Eucharist for the first time and five of recently initiated members to a special celebration of their reception of Holy Eucharist. All of these children have completed a time of preparation to understand more fully what it means to share in communion and table fellowship with Christ and
his people. Many thanks to their parents and families and to our parish catechist, Tina Lesho, for their work in preparing these children for this
celebration. Our First Communicants are:
Megan Brinkley Nicholas Snodgrass Kylie Gianni Jeramy Katenhusen Lily Rocknich Emma Riggs Jacob Cline
Mathew Geer Victoria Moore Tyler Kirkpatrick Blaine Beatty Rylee Birkhimer Jaiden Palm
MAY PROCESSION WITH ST. PAUL SCHOOL
Come celebrate the traditional Marian May Procession by our First Communicants and Eighth Grade with the crowning of the statue of Mary on Wednesday morning at 9:30. This beautiful celebration will bring back many
memories and be a highlight of springtime.
Opening The Doors Of His Mercy
It is time once again for us to participate with our brothers and sisters in the diocese of Wheeling-Charleston in our
annual Catholic Sharing Appeal to fund the collective ministries we do as the Church of West Virginia. These
include:
FAITH FORMATION, YOUTH MINISTRY, CATHOLIC EDUCATION AND CATHOLIC CHARITIES. Each of these is beyond the capabilities and reach of any one parish and thus is a responsibility of all Catholics in our
statewide diocese. Our Annual Sharing Appeal raises funds not only to fund these ministries but also to assist local
parish in funding their own ministry since half the fund raised are returned to the parish.
Our St. Paul Parish Goal this year is $29,025 Once we reach $14,512,50, or half of our goal, any other money given to the Appeal will be returned to our parish.
This money will be added to our Renovation Fund to be used for future repairs to our church and property, such as
replacing the carpet under the pews in the church.
When the annual Catholic Sharing Appeal mailer comes, please consider making a gift. Consider what part you can
play in our diocese church in our collective ministries and how you can help reach the goal set for our parish.
May God bless the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston and Saint Paul Parish.

This week: Sixth Sunday of Easter Acts 15:1-2,22-29 Revelation 21:10-14,22-23 John 14:23-29
Background: Again our Gospel text is from the so-called Last Supper
Discourse where Jesus prepares his disciples for his departure. However, this text was not written until about 90 AD by the evangelist “John” who wrote in Jesus name and addressed the needs of his community. What
was Jesus saying to a group of Christians who had just lost the last eyewitness to the living Jesus? To disciples who now had to live without any direct access to someone who had heard and seen the Lord? What
would keep them in touch with him: his word, his Spirit!
Next Week: Feast of the Ascension Acts 1:1-11 Ephesians 1:17-23 Luke 24:46-53
NEVER ALONE The local support group for parents, family, friends and community interested in drug and alcohol
addiction is now meeting here at St. Paul’s in our parish office conference room on Monday evenings at 6:00. This wonderful group has been providing encouragement as well as education
and support to those in our area struggling with issues related especially to the abuse of substances. If you have these issues in your family or know someone who does, come on
Mondays to find a welcoming group of folks, many of whom have been there and/or are there!
ANNUAL PRIESTS’ CONVOCATION
All the priests of the diocese will be gathering in Charleston on May 3,4 and 5 for the annual Convocation with the Bishop and each other. This gathering includes some educational
presentations, a state of the diocese presentation by Bishop Bransfield, a celebration of priestly milestones and retirements as well as socializing among the priests who rarely get to see each
other. Both Fathers Larry and Biju are expected to attend and thus will leave on Tuesday morning and return Thursday evening.
SHARING FAITH WITH OUR CHILDREN Our Family Faith FUNdamentals program provides religious education for pre-school through grade
eight children from 9:40 through 10:50 every Sunday morning the parish office. We have three classes that meet to help our children enrich their Catholic faith.
