60th Birthday Celebration

Saturday 6th July

Update

Thank you to everyone who has

contacted us about tickets for our

Celebration Day in July.

Slightly later than we expected,

we will be releasing tickets for the

Alumni Afternoon Cream Tea

over the course of the next two

weeks. These will be available to

purchase online.

More details to follow!

60th Birthday High Life Magazines

Our Sixth Form History and English

Ambassadors have been hard at work

producing a series of three High Life

magazines in celebration of our 60th

Anniversary this year.

This 60th Birthday project has allowed

these Ambassadors to record what they

have learnt through the tradition of

student publications during anniversary

years, and to use their creativity to bring

our school's history alive for current and

future students, and our wider AHS

community.

They have greatly enjoyed coming up with

article ideas, engaging with Alumni and

exploring our AHS Archives, as they

created a lasting legacy for our 60th

Birthday Celebrations.

The first of the three High Life Magazines

is now completed. Please click here to

access your copy. We do hope you enjoy

reading it (and reminiscing)! Edition 1 of High Life Magazine 1959-1979

For those of you who have

been following our work to

grow our AHS Alumni

network, we have now

almost 3 ,000 Alumni

contacts; comprising former

students and staff.

The quest to reconnect with

as many Alumni as we can

has been especially difficult,

since we lost valuable

contact information from

our 50th Anniversary (and

some people married and

changed their names!).

We are particularly pleased

to have reconnected with so

many of our former staff and

to catch up on news of their

careers and AHS memories.

Mentioned often in our

Alumni Living History

interviews are former AHS

teachers, Peggy and Nan

Cattell. We were delighted

to visit them at their home

recently and they both were

in good health and good

spirits. They each have vivid

memories of their time at

AHS, and kindly donated

their Programme from the

AHS Opening Day in 1959 to

our AHS Archive.

We were also very pleased

to welcome back to AHS

former Headteacher, Jane

W a i n w r i g h t , w h o

volunteered to take part in a

Living History interview last

week. This provided us with

valuable insights in to AHS

from a different perspective

and we were pleased to

discover new information

to include in our AHS

history book. Jane had a

brief tour of AHS to see our

recent development work,

and met with current

students and former

colleagues from her time here.

We hope that Jane and

many other former staff will

be able to attend our 60th

Ce lebrat ion Day on

Saturday 6th July, to meet

each other again and to visit

our AHS Archive exhibition.

If you are in contact with

any former members of staff

(or students), please

en cou r a ge t h em to

reconnect with us as soon

as possible, by emailing

Alison Pexton: we would

love to hear from them!

60th Birthday Celebration

Alumni Volunteer News

We are finalising the details for

our Alumni celebrations on the

60th Birthday Celebration Day,

and will be in contact with all

those who have kindly

volunteered their help on the

day, shortly.

If you have not responded yet

and would be happy to help us,

please contact Alison Pexton at

[email protected] .

Any help that you can offer on

the morning or afternoon of

Saturday 6th July would be

appreciated!

Thank You For Joining

Our Community Choir!

Please remember that we are

planning two rehearsals with as

many people present as

possible.

These will take place at AHS in

the Drama Studio on:

8t.h June 9.00 - 10.30 am

29th June 9.00 - 10.30 am

Additionally, there will be a

rehearsal on Saturday 6th July,

before the performance.

If you have not yet signed up,

we do hope that you would like

to get involved - please fill in this

form and return it to us, to let

us know that you would like to

join us!

Do you have a photograph of

yourself with an iconic

hairstyle: one that you would

be happy to share with us?

Our Sixth Form students are

researching hairstyles from the

past 60 years, to contribute to

articles for the High Life

magazines they are writing, and would really appreciate

your support!

Whether you had Farrah

Flicks, Lady Di’s Sloane Style,

The Pob, or The Fringe; we

would really love to see your

photos and use them for our

High Life magazine!

If you can, please email your

photo to Alison Pexton at

[email protected] .

AHS 60th Anniversary History Book, Archive and Heritage Website

Over the past year we have

been working hard to

collate all the information

we have about Aylesbury

High School, to create a

legacy for future students in

commemoration of our

60th Anniversary.

We have reached out to

reconnect with our former

students and staff, and have

welcomed the support we

have received for our

Women Who Inspire, Living

History and Arch ive

initiatives.

We are now delighted to

confirm that we will have a

comprehensive archive

display, access to our soon-

to-be-launched heritage

website, and our first AHS

History Book; for our 60th

Anniversary celebrations

on Saturday 6th July.

We would like to thank

everyone who has

c o n t r i b u t e d t h e i r

memories, memorabilia

and photographs for

making this possible, and

for keeping our AHS

history alive!
