Welcome to Aylesbury

In the heart of picturesque Buckinghamshire, Aylesbury’s bustlingmarket town offers something for everyone! From its HeritageTrail to an amazing programme of events and entertainment,Aylesbury boasts regular markets in the historic, cobbled MarketSquare - making it a truly unique experience for both residentsand visitors.

Aylesbury was awarded Garden Town Status in 2017, recognising that it’s going to be a key area for growth in the UK, with new homes and exciting new opportunities. The aim is to make Aylesbury Garden Town a key hub and destination, with a diverse range of travel options, a revitalised town centre, additional jobs and well designed and connected communities.

With a vision to develop Aylesbury Town Centre into a centre for entertainment and the arts, Aylesbury was excited to host its very first Waterside Festival this year. Set amongst the canal side public space - surrounded by Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, University Campus Aylesbury Vale, Waitrose and Travelodge – the festival celebrated the past, present and future of the canal’s wonderful heritage. The festival was a huge success and a great opportunity to introduce new visitors to this beautiful, undiscovered part of the town - marking the end of what had been a fantastic British summer!

EveningWe are proud to have been holders of the Purple Flag since 2011 and delighted that we have been awarded the status again for 2018. The achievement of becoming a Purple Flag award holder is truly a partnership approach in Aylesbury. There is a common purpose and aim between groups to ensure that Aylesbury Town is a place where spending leisure time is an enjoyable and safe experience. Efforts are focussed on the following areas to maximise yournight out.

SafetySafety in the town is paramount. All activities are monitored by CCTV cameras and all door staff are fully accredited in safety and well-being. On a regular basis, you will also find Street Angels assisting anyone that is vulnerable.

CleanlinessWe are keen to maintain the cleanliness in town and the cleaning regime is based on ensuring that the Environmental Protection Act Code of Practice on Litter is always maintained as a minimum standard. This cleaning regime ensures the town centre is cleansed between the hours of 6 am and 8 am each day and that the town remains clean throughout the day until at least 8 pm.

TransportThe railway and bus stations are close to the town centre with easy access and operate into the late evening. The transport hub located outside the library provides real-time passenger information to assist in your journey home. We have a number of instantly recognisable black taxis ranked in central locations – please see map on page 14 for your information.

Night outThere are over 60 food and beverage eateries in town (locations can be found on page 14) which are coupled with a range of pubs and bars including a pool bar and several nightclubs open until 2 am.

For further information on what to do in the evening go to visitaylesbury.co.uk

AVDC’s latest exciting development - The Exchange - is nearing completion.AVDC is creating a brand new public space, right in the heart of Aylesbury town centre, with their development partner Durkan.

The Exchange will be home to four exciting new restaurants, a public square and 47 much-needed one and two-bedroom apartments. The scheme is the latest step in AVDC’s regeneration of the town centre, investing in the transformation of the town as a destination of choice for entertainment and arts.

The development will feature a stunning new public square between the new building and the existing restaurants and cinema, where public art is a key feature throughout. With unique sculptures, intricate ribbon inlays within the paving, distinctive street furniture and decorative tree grills - the square at The Exchange will be a fantastic new addition to Aylesbury Town Centre.

The public square has been funded by a grant from the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) and its provision recognises the importance of creating high quality spaces, as town centres continue to face the challenges of online shopping.

Long Lional, a busy pedestrian route to the High Street, will also be improved to help support existing businesses, with new business space being provided on that side of The Exchange development.

The public square is due to be revealed very soon, so keep an eye out on visitaylesbury.co.uk for more information.
