The 20th Anniversary Production of
Dear friends of JCompany
This past season JCompany brought you another season of firsts: An entire season ofComfort Theatre dedicated to the brilliance of Rodgers & Hammerstein, the integration ofthe Academy Award winning movie musicals that accompanied each show, and the largestand most professional orchestras in youth theatre history. Of course we have continued tocreate a safe and encouraging environment for youth to grow in the theatrical arts. With thisand much more, such as our nationally acclaimed, award-winning shows and our groundbreaking educational and charitable outreach, we are again proving that JCompany is oneof the nation’s most popular, innovative and dedicated theatre for youth.
This season we continue to reinvent what people think of youth theatre by bringing you. As they say in Fiddler on the Roof, the first
show of our season, L’chaim! – To Life! We are celebrating not only the lives of some of thegreatest composers & lyricists and the shows they represent, both classic and contemporary, but also the lives of the amazing young artists that fill our stage throughout the season- andagain this season, you will hear the stories of how JCompany has bettered the lives ofthese incredible youth.
These shows are some of the largest and most popular in theatrical history. That being said, they are also some of the most expensive to put on, especially in the first-class way weproduce them here at JCompany. We are so very grateful for the year-long planning andwork by our dedicated volunteers led by our Executive Producer Dr. Monica Handler Penner,as well as the generous financial support from the parents and community members whobelieve in our mission of providing a foundation for young artists to train and develop theircreative potential and giving them the opportunity to express themselves through thedramatic arts. This, our 18th Season, is an ambitious but an important one and without yourfinancial support we would not be able to bring important works such as this to youthacross San Diego County. Ticket sales only cover about 40% of what is needed to provide theyoung artists with a superior theatrical experience.
The arts, theatre specifically, help youth grow in many other aspects; socially, academicallyand psychologically. By becoming a JCompany Jewel, or by increasing your Jewel gift, youwill be an important part of the lives of our greatest Jewels—our JCompany Young Artists.
I am a proud JCompany Jewel myself and when you join me, together we will createa warm, supportive place for young artists to learn, grow, imagine and create!
In closing, I would like to leave you with the fantastic lyrics of the incredible Stephen Schwartz,(the creator ofWicked and Children of Eden) because if we give and work together we CANachieve anything! Thank you in advance for your support and I look forward to sharing thisexciting season with you and your entire family.
Artfully yours
Joey Landwehr

In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to instill inhis daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in theface of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of CzaristRussia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler’s universal theme oftradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. It has touchedaudiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty; andwill be sure to have you singing such hits as Tradition, Miracle Of Miraclesand To Life!

December 3–12, 2010
Evan Goldman lives in the greatest city in the world, New York. He ispopular and cool and getting ready for the biggest day of his life, but when his parents get divorced his world turns upside down andhe's forced to have his Bar Mitzvah in “the lamest place in the world,”a small town in Indiana. All Evan wants is to make friends and survivethe school year; easier said than done! The star quarterback isthreatening to ruin his life; his only friend, Patrice, won't talk to him;plus quite possibly the least popular kid in school sees an opportunityfor blackmail—what else could go wrong? As rumors fly and clicksabound an unforgettable rock score, from Tony Award® winningcomposer, Jason Robert Brown, makes a hilarious, high-energy musicalfor all ages about discovering that cool is where you find it, andsometimes where you least expect it. 13 is a massive musical hit.

A Joyous New Musical For The Entire FamilyBased On The Garden Of Eden and Noah’s Ark.
Directed by Joey Landwehr
May 13–22, 2011
From Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Pocahontas and Prince Of Egypt)and John Caird of Les Miserables comes a joyous and inspirational musicalabout parents, children and faith. Freely based on the story of Genesis,CHILDREN OF EDEN is a musical that rivals the spectacle of The Lion KingwithThe Naming of the Animals and of course welcoming the animals on theark. This frank, heartfelt and often humorous examination of the age-oldconflict between parents and children will keep you humming, singing andswaying in your seats. Adam, Eve, Noah and the Father who created themdeal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet, but inspiring message that“the hardest part of love... is letting go”—so true!

Joseph and theAmazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Directed and Musical Direction by Jason Chase
February 25–March 13, 2011
In this long-running musical, we see the story of Joseph, son of Jacob.Patriarch Jacob lived happily with his dozen sons, but his favoritism forbright Joseph, symbolized by the gift of a spectacular multi-colored coat, makes his brothers so jealous they end up selling him into slavery anddriven to Egypt. Though beset with adversity, Joseph perseveres throughwit and faith and becomes the governor of Egypt, second only to thePharaoh. This all sets the scene for when he meets his brothers who havecome to Egypt to purchase food. The Narrator draws a school audiencerepeatedly into a very 21st century Technicolor production of the Biblicalstory. With such memorable songs such as Go, Go, Go, Joseph, Any DreamWill Do and the excitingMegamix ending will have you dancing in theaisles with excitement!
BE HANDSOME! BE SMART! BECOME A PART OF A WALKING WORK OF ART…Celebrate JCompany turning 18 and our historic Chai Season by memorializing a loved one, honoring a family orpaying tribute to a young artist and have their name embroidered on one of the brilliant colored panels in Joseph’sactual Technicolor Dreamcoat to be permanently on display at the JCC.
