Volunteer Sign-ups: All teams are required to send a volunteer for a one shift to help with a station during the Opening Day Festival on September 14th. Sign-ups are through Sign-up Genius and the link can be found on the “For Parents” page of the region’s website at www.ayso34.org. The shifts will be about an hour and a half long. If your team has not signed up for a shift, please email Christie Slatcher at [email protected]. Be sure to include your team's division and Coach name when you sign up to get credit (ex: BU10 Slatcher). Team Snack Snack is probably one of the players favorite part of playing soccer, especially for the younger divisions, U8 and below. We recommend that you bring bottles of water for half-time along with some fruit (oranges, or watermelon or grapes). The kids also look forward to a snack after the game, like a box of juice, chips and/or a piece of fruit. Try to keep it healthy! Team Pictures AYSO 34 Picture day will be held on Saturday, September 14th. Make-up pictures will be held on September 22nd. Teams will be given a time to show up for their pictures. All teams must arrive at least fifteen minutes before their scheduled time. All players must have their completed picture form and needs to be filled out even if they are not purchasing any additional photos. Forms will be passed out by the team parent and will also be available on photo day. Your teams photo will be scheduled before your game that day. Pictures will be done next to the Pinto field close to the corner of Camino Real and Prospect. Please make sure a representative from your team brings a copy of the team roster. A template for this roster can be found on the region's website under forms. This information will also be used to publish in the Directory, which will be passed out towards the end of the season. Snack Bar Duty Our snack bar is an important part of the soccer experience. It is a place to meet, socialize and grab your favorite treats. Revenues from the snack bar also help our region with new equipment and upgrades each year. As a result, each team is Divisions U5 thru U14 is asked to man the snack bar for one shift each season. This requires 4 to 6 adult volunteers and each shift lasts three to four hours. Your team will be assigned a shift time and day that does not conflict with your team's game time. We ask that you arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your shift so that you can be trained on what to do. The snack bar shifts will be posted on our region's website at www.ayso34.org, once it is completed. Sponsors We are offering opportunities for you to support our region and promote your business through providing ad space on our directory and by placing banners around our fields to advertise your business. If you are interested in placing an ad or being a sponsor, please complete the Sponsorship Form located in the Forms section of our region's website at www.ayso34.org.

Banner Contest Information

Region 34 encourages all teams to create a team banner. It boosts the team spirit and adds to

the overall soccer experience. Teams are asked to bring their banners to the Opening Day

Parade and to display them with pride at all games. As an added incentive, we host a banner

contest during the Parade and Opening Day Carnival. Banners are judged after the parade and

winners for each division (U5 thru U12; U14-16) win $50. There will also be an additional $50

awarded to the team with the best banner amongst all divisions. In addition, we will be

awarding one award for most original artwork, if the banner is not homemade but the artwork is

original.

Standards

The AYSO Board has adopted the following standards when judging an award winning banner:

Maximum size: 6ft L x 3ft H

Minimum size: 3ft L x 2ft H

Team name must be at least 6 inches in height and legible from a distance of 20 feet. The

following information must be included on the banner and be at least 3 inches high: AYSO

Region 34, team name and division (ex BU10 or GU10). Banners are to be made of soft cloth

like material such as felt or vinyl and must have a way to easily hang on a fence. No signboards

or placards are permitted. Team colors must be predominant and no metal rods/pipes allowed.

Guidelines -- Referee Volunteer Points

Games cannot be played without a qualified referee team. To encourage coaches, players and

their families to become trained and volunteer as referees, the region will award the following

points for each game refereed to any team with which that referee is affiliated:

Division Points Awarded

U7, U8 and U10 2

U12 3

U14, U16 and U19 4

Qualification for Beach Cup Tournament

At the end of the Fall Season, the region will hold a Beach Cup Tournament to determine which teams

will advance to Area League Tournament competition in January 2015. To qualify for the Beach Cup

Tournament, a team must have earned the following levels of Referee Volunteer Points in addition to

fulfilling their assigned snack bar volunteer duty:

Division Points to Qualify

U10 26

U12 33

U14 40

U7/8 and U16/19 teams do not play in Beach Cup. U7/8 teams will participate in a tournament at Soccer

City while U16/19 teams will play in a season-end Area Tournament. Teams that do not fulfill these

requirements will not participate in Beach Cup, regardless of their win/loss record in regular season play.

Page 5: AYSO Region 34 - Amazon Web Services pa… · AYSO Region 34 Fall 2019 Regional Commissioner: Bob Hayes Assistant Regional Commissioner: Shelley De La Torre Assistant Regional Commissioner:

Points are earned primarily by refereeing games. Other ways to earn points for Beach Cup qualification

include:

• Volunteer as Snack Bar Auxiliary (15 points) - This involves working 20 hours (5 four-hour shifts). Snack bar auxiliary is a snack bar management position that requires supervising incoming snack bar volunteers. It does not replace snack bar volunteer duty.

• There may be additional volunteer opportunities set forth by the region as needs arise. Coaches of teams having difficulty qualifying for Beach Cup should contact their Division Captain for more information.

Points for coach and referee certification (which are requirements for all teams) have been eliminated this year, and corresponding adjustments have been made to points earned for refereeing and points needed to qualify.

Referee Rewards To encourage referees to continue to volunteer after their team qualifies for Beach Cup, the region will reward teams that go above and beyond Beach Cup requirements with a financial award that can be used for a year-end team party, coaches gifts, or other pre-approved team-related expenditures. These awards are earned solely by referee volunteer points and do not include points for snack bar auxiliary or points earned for other volunteer activities.

U5-U8 U10 U12 U14

Points Reward Points Reward Points Reward Points Reward

20 $50 26 Beach Cup 35 Beach Cup 40 Beach Cup

25 $75 45 $50 50 $50 55 $50

30 $100 60 $100 65 $100 70 $100

Teams that qualify for a financial award, will be reimbursed for their expenses up to their award amount. Teams will need to submit a completed copy of a reimbursement form and their receipts. The form can be downloaded here, or is also available on the Forms page. Completed forms and receipts can be mailed to AYSO Region 34 - PO Box 3202 - Redondo Beach, CA 90277 or scanned and emailed to the Region 34 Treasurer at [email protected].

Please report any problems or concerns to the Board Member on Duty or your Division Captain/Coach Administrator.

INJURIES Soccer is a contact sport and there will be injuries. Please keep in mind that most of these are minor. In a match, allow the referee to speak to the player first, do not run out on the field until, if and when, the referee signals you. Please note:

• It is the referee's discretion to determine the severity of the injury and to make the determination if emergency treatment should be sought immediately on the field. The referee's ruling is final.

• Tell your parents that they are not allowed on the field for any reason.

Page 6: AYSO Region 34 - Amazon Web Services pa… · AYSO Region 34 Fall 2019 Regional Commissioner: Bob Hayes Assistant Regional Commissioner: Shelley De La Torre Assistant Regional Commissioner:

• Only players with signed player registration form can receive basic first aid from the coach.

• For blood injuries during the game, the player must be removed from the field, have the bleeding stopped and, if applicable, have the injury properly bandaged before returning to play. Any blood on the jersey must be removed before the player can re-enter the game.

• If the player is not substituted for, he/she may re-enter the game with the referee's permission. If the player is substituted for, he/she may not re-enter the game until the next quarter.

FIELDS It is important that we make sure that all players and participants in Region 34 soccer have the opportunity to play on safe and secure fields. We must all do our part in ensuring safe playing surfaces.

• Check the goal posts before every game to ensure they properly weighted so that they cannot cause accidental injury.

• Check that the nets are properly secured to the goal posts.

• Do not allow anyone to hang on the goals; they are not play structures.

• Check for holes or any other hazards on the field before the match and mark these with cone if necessary. When possible, fill any small divots with fresh dirt.

• If the lights do not go on it is the discretion of the referee to call the match. If three quarters have been played, the match score will stand.

• No tobacco or alcohol is allowed on the fields.

• No dogs are allowed on the field. COACHES AND PARENTS Remember, our goal is to provide a fun and positive experience in soccer for all our players. Encourage all players and keep things positive - you set the example!

• Coaches are responsible for their sideline. This means that you must control your parents by reinforcing the standard that yelling at players referees, or opposing players/coaches/spectators is not acceptable, nor will it be tolerated.

• Stay in your designated 'Coach Box' - the area between one end of the center circle to the other end of the center circle.

• Let the referees REF and the coaches COACH. If you would like to ref - please sign up for one of the courses being offered in our region and get properly trained.

• Refer any concerns about another team or coach to the appropriate Division Captain or Coach Administrator.

AYSO Parent Player Pledge

AYSO Parent Pledge

In my words and action, I pledge to:

1. Attend and participate in team parent meetings as requested. 2. Be on time or early when dropping off or picking up my child for training or games. 3. Ensure my child is supported and encouraged by family or loved ones at games. 4. Encourage my child to have fun and keep sport in its proper perspective. 5. Define winning for my child as doing his/her very best and appreciate Development over Winning. 6. Endeavor to understand the Laws (rules) of soccer and support the efforts of referees. 7. Honor the game and show respect for all involved including coaches, players,

opponents, spectators and referees. 8. Applaud and encourage players from both teams and not yell out instructions (as this

causes confusion to the players and ultimately hinders development). 9. Refrain from making negative comments about the game, coaches, referees or players,

especially from the sidelines. 10. Encourage others to refrain from negative or abusive sideline behavior. 11. As parents, keep the game in perspective for our children (as a pastime, sport, fun,

exercise). 12. Abide by the tenets of Kids Zone for appropriate sideline behavior and support AYSO’s

philosophies for enriching children’s lives.
