CRUCIFORM IAMPThe Mazda " Cruciform " Lamp is the ideal illuminant for the

home shrine. The filament is in the form of a crucifix which

glows with a soft rosy light. At night the effect is very appealing

and significant, This attractive little lamp uses only one unit ofelectricity in 200 hours, is absolutely safe, produces neither smell

nor smoke, and requires no attention of any kind.

IT{AZDA ..SNOW TYIITIE'' UGIITS

If Walt Disney had begun and ended his cinematic

career with the production of " Snow White and the

Seven Dwarfs," he would deserve for that alone the

enduring affection and gratitude of children the worldover. It is believed that this picture will break all

box-office records, before (if ever) it is consigned tothe limbo of forgotten films.

This story, written by Grimm and animated byWalt Disney, has now been illuminated by Mazda. The eight lively characters of this fairy drama have

been reproduced in charming action pictures on theshades of Mazda " Snow White " Lights-the mostattractive outfit of its kind ever produced.

Every child who sees one of these sets will want itand every parent who sees one will at once decide

that no home with children can possibly be com.plete without the added grace of Mazda " Snow

80 and 125 watre.

The new 80 watt and 125 watt lamps represent an addition to theoriginal well-known Mercra range, so that Mercra lamps arenow available in a range of wattages capable of meeting almost anysireet lighting, foodlighting or industrial lighting requirements.

The new lamps are designed to secure high efficiency combinedwith compact size, For the 6rst time a mercury vapour dischargelamp resembles in its genera! shape and size, the incandescentfilament lamps of normal practice, and the long tubular outer bulbdisappears to give place to a bulb similar in shape and dimension tothe 150 or 200 watt standard gasfilled bulb.

They operate on the same principle as the higher wattages describedoverleaf, but may be burnt in any position. A choke is requiredfor each lamp, and to prevent the possibility of accidental insertionof the lamp in sockets not provided with a choke, the bayonercap has three instead of the standard two pins.

If the circuit voltage is liable to fall below 200 volts, or if theweather is liable to be extremely cold at night, the use of an auto-transformer is recommended.

MERCRA FLUORESCENT LAMPSFoR usE *-*tffiffi CI',RRENr oNLY

The light from the ordinary mercury dischargc lamp, because of

the smull emission of red light, has a distorting effect upon certain

colours. It is impossible, for instance, to distinguish between

reds and various shades of brown. The Mercra Fluorescent l-amp

has been developed to meet requirements where some degree of

colour rendering is imPortant'

The mercury vapour discharge tube is mounted in an enlarged outer

iacket, the inn"i ,urfu"u of which is coated with powder which

h.ror"."". under ultra-violet radiation from the inner lamp' This

flrror"r""n, radiation provides colour correction, by adding both red

and middle blue light.

The electrical characteristics of this lamp are similar to the standard

400 watt Mercra Lamp in that it requires to be operated on alter-

nating current with a- standard choke and i{ desired, a condenser

for power factor correction.

These la-ps have been designed for industrial lighting' - They are

available in two shapes, pear-shaped (iso+hermal) and tubular'

r The iso-thermal is slightly more effrcient, but the tubular has been

designed for situations in which the greater diameter of the former

cannot be accommodated.

While the degree o[ colour correction does not render the light

"-itt"d {ro-1he lamp equivalent to daylight. it is nevertheless

much more pleasing than uncorrected mercury light'

-BTII UGHT METER

FOR DOMESTIC, INDUSTRIAL AND GENEML IIGIITING.

In these days when the importance of good illuminationis becoming generally recognised, the possession of areliable instrument for the more common measurementsin connection with lighting is a first necessity to all who 'are responsible for the design or upkeep of lightinginstallations.

The BTH Light Meter has been designed as a high 'quality instrument at the lowest price compatible withgood performance. It consists of a micro-ammeter socalibrated as to give direct readings of the illurninationfalling on the cell face, in terms of foot-candles.

Up to 75 foot-candles may be taken direct, but by theuse of the special plate supplied, readings up to 750foot-candles may be obtained.

The instrument (which weighs only seven ounces) maybe carried in the pocket. A special pigskin case isprovided with each instrument.

The smallness and compactness of this light-meter, infact, suggests that it should form part of the equipmentof all lighting engineers, contractors, etc., who will findit invaluable, not only for direct measurement of illumin-ation levels but for ascertaining reflection and trans-mission factors, brightness, etc.

For the majority o{ illuminants, this instrument may beused for taking direct readings. For sodium lighting, however, it is necessary to cdd one-third to scale read-ing, and for daylight to subtract one-third.
