Youcanusewhatevercolorcanvasyouwouldlikeandyoucouldevenuseoneofthe#5pearlcottonsforyourborder.Iliketostitchmycanvasmountedwithbrasstacksonministretcherbars.Ifyouwanttodothesame,you’llneed6”x12”stretcherbarsandbrasstacks.Additionalsuppliesmaybeneededinparttwo.(Nothingextensiveorexpensive.)

It’stimetobegintheAztecStitch.IusedDeniseBeusen’sarticleforreferenceonstitchpathanddirection.THREADNOTE:Icutmypearlcottonattheknotintheskeinandtheresultingstrandsareaboutayardlong.Thislengthisenoughforthreerowsofeachcolor.IdidNOThavetobeginanewthreadinthemiddleofanyrow.First,rotateyourcanvas90degreestotheleft.Thisputstheareayoumarked“TOP”onyourleft.
Anchoryourthreadinthebackofthefour-sidedstitches.Comingupfromthebackandtotheleftofthebundleofthreadsinthelowerleftcorner.FollowingthegraphinDenise’sarticle,wrapyourthreadfromlefttorightaroundthefirsttwothreads.Iusedfourwraps.Threewrapsmightbesufficient,dependingonyourtension.Youwanttobeconsistentonthenumberofwrapsthroughouttheproject.Takecareto“stack”yourwrapssotheylieneatlyagainsteachotherandnotcrossedovereachother.Continuetothetopofyouworktocompleteyourfirst“row.”Turnyourcanvas180degreesandfollowthepathtocompletethesecondrow.Turnyourcanvasagain180degreestocompleteyourthirdrowwithyourfirstcolor.
