Community Prayer Tree Update: Thank you to those who have shared the concerns on your minds and hearts on the Community Prayer Tree. Along with the tree is a container filled with ornaments and a couple of permanent markers. We invite you, our neighbors, and folks in the community to write and continue to write prayer concerns on the ornaments, and then attach the ornaments to the tree with the provisions supplied. The tree will remain as long as possible throughout the Christmas season. Folks from our church check the tree regularly. The pastoral staff will add the concerns to our prayers and share with you here.

Look for a Bright and Shining Star on December 21st Between the evenings of December 15th and 18th, the planets Jupiter and Saturn will be

moving into what is called the “Great Conjunction” with one another. Then beginning on the evening of the winter solstice, December 21st, 45 minutes after sunset, a crescent moon will be higher in the sky and Jupiter and Saturn will appear to intersect in the western sky closer to the horizon. At the same time of the three evenings following, this double star alignment may be captured as well. In actuality, the two planets are hundreds of millions of miles apart. But for these snapshots in time, they will be the closest they have been in 400 years. In 1623 the occurrence was visible in the day skies, globally. On December 21, 2020, in the night skies around the world, the planets will be

the closest in that they have been in 800 years, creating the probability of radiating one bright and shining star to be witnessed by the naked eye.

Some sources say this occurrence is the biblical Christmas Star or Star of Bethlehem, the one that led the shepherds with their sheep to the baby Jesus and later the Wise Men to him to pay homage to his birth. Scientists say that it was the planets Venus and Jupiter (and possibly Saturn), not Jupiter and Saturn, that burst forth on that night of all nights two thousand years ago. Even so, for Christians, this still remains an event of biblical proportions, because we have an opportunity to take in a wonder similar to the wonder of wonders that shone down on the cradle-manger in Bethlehem.

(This information was taken from various sources, including: NBC, Chicago Tribune, NASA.)  Worship in the Sanctuary  Please be aware of the following guidelines.
