Two and one/half years ago a youngman approached the club asking ifthere was some way the local clubcould help him get this Intac surgerydone in CA. Matthew Wright was ayoung husband and father of twoyoung girls – working hard at localHome Depot, but afflicted with a dis-ease of the eyes called Keratoconus, which was causing him extreme prob-lems. After some investigation, theclub felt the entire project was toomuch for them, so they referred him toone of the Lions Eye groups in Albany, who because of decreased donationswere unable to give him any aid what-soever. After Matthew had been testedin Albany, Massena Lions were able topersuade the examining doctor to setthings up for Matthew to have the Intacsurgery that would help to alleviate hisproblem, at a “Lion’s rate”. The doctoragreed and the club began scramblingto get the funds together because costsfor surgery, drops, subsequent visits, etc. would run up to $5,000 or more.Massena Lions were able to providethis as a gift to Matthew and his familywith the help of a $500 donation fromthe Malone Lions and some donationsfrom local community members. Afterseveral trips to Albany for follow-up,Matthew has been successfully referredto local eye practitioners for continuedcare with only occasional trips to Al-bany required.
